First of all, when I moved into my apartment complex initially, I had a wonderful apartment manager, and a more than capable maintenance guy. She got sick and quit, and he got a better paying job and quit. They have been gone over a year. Some of you know the really bad things that have happened under the new people's watch. I live in a low income apartment complex. The following is not a huge deal, but I want to have some fun. This is what was on my door when I stepped outside at 8am this morning.
Complete Pest Control will be providing your extermination service on 10-17-08, Between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Please make your Property Management Team aware of any specific pest problems you may be having.
Well, today is the 17th, and they put this outside our doors at 11pm last night. How do I know that? I saw the assistance manager outside my door, but didn't think anything of it until I walked outside this morning.
So tonight around 11pm I am going to make my way to the mail drop at the management office. This is the note they will find in the morning:
Complete Annoyance will be provided by me on 10-18-08 from 9am to 5pm. Please do not continue to treat your low income tenants as such. Please be aware that my annoyance starts at the time you open. I realize this gives you no time to prepare. Thank you.
As I was leaving this morning, one of my neighbors was out and he brought the subject up to me, so I know I'm not alone. The thing is, it isn't even a day's notice. PLUS, the pest control people come at 9am. Which is when the office opens. How am I supposed to make the office aware and get the pest control people to know when they both start working at the same time? I'm not having pest problems, but other people are. The thing is that they slink around and give us no time to know. We have to have our animals out. I know people there who work and have no place to take their pets today!
So, what do you think? I'm going to type it out and not sign my name, but I don't care if they know its me.

I don't blame you...we live in apt's as well and our manager just quit a week or two ago and this new manager is cr*p. She does NOTHING...she comes in at EXACTLY 9am and leaves at EXACTLY noon. She doesn't come out of the office to save her life. She doesn't check the grounds or anything. When I asked her the other day for a receipt for the rent she was very rude and when I asked her if we'd still be having inspections she said she didn't know. Hopefully she'll get sick of the job quick and we might get someone in here that does a better job.

Your new apartment manager
sounds like one of those people
that accepted the job just for free rent.
When she finds out that the job
entails more than sitting on her rear
all day, she'll move onto the next
slacker job she can find!
Best of luck, till then!

Well, she doesn't get free rent b/c she doesn't live in any of the apartments. I think she is one of the staff from the company that owns the apartments. I really hope we actually get someone in here that cares, b/c otherwise our place will go down the tubes. The apt's are really nice but the old manager worked hard to keep them that way along with the ppl that live here.

My niece, sister and great niece live in rent controlled apartments, but pay full price because my sister is now getting social security. They keep pressuring them to give up the three bedroom they share and rent a one and a two bedroom (more money for the apartment), saying then they both would qualify as low income. Now who's apartment do you think they show when HUD comes around? My niece's, and they have no right to, as she gets no HUD assistance. She only is staying while she works on her RN because it is convenient to her work, her daughter's school, and she knows how much the bill and utilities will be every month. I know that it is frustrating. They leave special little messages for them as well. have fun with your funny.

It isn't fair. And the sad thing is if it were a regular apartment complex they would treat everyone much better. I hope your niece gets out of that place as soon as she can, and I am so glad to hear she is working towards such an accomplished goal.

That's a nice way of putting it....with some humour (even if they aren't going to find it funny).
And anyways, they didn't give you (or the other tenants) time to think and prepare for the pest control. What else are you guys supposed to do?
I have more than enough problems in the apartment complex that I live at...and now the owners of the apartments have taken up the responsibility of the various maintenance works. Hopefully, things will get better now.

I do believe it is a law that tenants of any apartment complex get a 24 hour notice if the management needs to come in to the apartment. I think apartment managers at low income complexes assume that because their tenants are low income that also means they are stupid. Unfortunately, most renters don't know their rights, regardless of their income.

That is funny, but I hope they don't turn on you if they find out it was you..I know apartment managers can be a real pain and I am so glad not to be under their thumb anymore..
Let me know how it goes, maybe they will finally get the hint..

My mom was worried about them figuring out it was me, but honestly if they retaliated, they would have no basis. Not saying they wouldn't anyway, lol. However, I'm typing it up and not signing it. Plus, they have been in my apartment and know I'm not using my computer, nor do I have a printer. And I don't think it would occur to them I might have parents and be using their computer and printer. They pretty much think most people in the complex have no one. And you know what, carmelanirel? Some of them really don't.
PS My dad loved my idea and thought it was perfect, lol.

Well, I pray that maybe they will consider how wrong they are and that they don't get that mentality that some teachers got in school, if they didn't know who did it, everyone got punished..
Anyways, at least let us know what happened, even if nothing did, that way we know you are still around...

i think it is really ridiculous for your property manager to do that to you... it is so unfair... not given enough time to prepare and the notice comes so suddenly... i think you have the right to express your dissatisfaction to your manager... and the note that you make is really funny... good luck... hope the manager will get the message... take care and have a nice day...
