Stay in bed all day if you let them? I have a 17 year old, he left school in May and has been working part time while waiting to see if he is successful in his application for the RAF. On his days off from work he will lie in bed, and one day I left him in there just to see how long he would sleep for, he got up at 5.00pm in the afternoon! It is amazing how long some teens can sleep for! Do you have a teen that does a lot of sleeping? Do you let them sleep or do you get them up at a certain time each day?

I'm 17 too, and the situation you wrote about is similar. I just can't get enough sleep- every Saturday i'm sleeping til afternoon. I don't know i guess it's normal for teens at that age. As for my mother she doesn't let me sleep in one very teasing way- when she thinks it's time for everyone to get up she just starts intentionally making noise by cleaning the house, slamming doors etc.

Apparently from what I have learned about you teens, it is normal and it is something to do with hormones. It is nothing to do with laziness, just that your bodies need more sleep than anyone else!

enola, my son does nothing to get worn out! He could just sleep for England, if there was ever a sporting event at it, he would come out with gold!

Hi Gemini, I think teenagers do tend to this a lot especially boys more than girls, I know my daughters boyfriend would stay in bed all day if you let him whereas she is up and about reasonably early on a weekend although does have a layin as up early for work all week. I don't mind if they saty in bed but when my daughter used to come down with her quilt and lay on the sofa and then get annoyed if my son was making noise I would say well if you want to sleep get back upstairs rather than vegging and moaning on the sofa. Huggles. Ellie :D

My son aggravates everyone when he is up, and I mean aggravates. He will not leave my daughter alone until she is in tears, so for this reason most days I do tend to leave him to it. It is just peaceful when he is out of the way.

I have a 16 year old daughter and she would stay in the bed all day if I let her also. She likes her sleep if she has no plans for the day. She will sleep longer also if she has some chores to do.

Hello g-rose. I have a teen as well. He seldom has enough time to sleep that late as even on weekends he has to go to school. But if it is during the long vacation, we would ask him to get up when we are ready for having a late breakfast.

He does sometimes stay up late so that does not help. I am sick of asking him to get up and help around the house, sometimes it is easier to just let him be for some peace.

My 17 year old girl would sleep for 2 days straight if someone would let her. On the weekends.. and when there is no school.. we usually wake her up by 11 if she is not already up (which is rare) . It must be nice not to have any worries.. no bills.. no kids.. etc.. I ALMOST remember what it was like

I have a 17 yr old son that would sleep all day if you allowed him to. As long as he gets up like he is suppose to for school and chores get done. I could care less if he sleeps all day.

Oh dear....your son won't last long if he gets into the air force...lol. There is a LOT of self discipline required and it's expected from the very beginning....it can make life really tough if you fight it or cannot get used to it....does your son not realise this? It will be a rude awakening for him if so. How much longer for him...I sure hope he does ok and gets in.

i have four teen children and thefirst born who is a boy is 17 years old, but i think he is different with your son. he can stay long inside his room but not sleeping. drawing. he spends his free time drawing and sometimes forgets to eat if he is in to focus. all i do is call him so he will be reminded that it is time to eat. he can do errands and some chores in the house but if there is nothing to do he spend most of the time in his room, drawing.

I was told by my mother that teenagers sleep all day like that because it's a copout meaning, they don't know what to do with themselves and they don't want to face the day so they'll sleep so they don't have to face what ever that's going on around them. It's a hard time of a child's life because they really don't know what to expect and what's expected of them. It's like a transition... like, "Ok, now what do I do?" It has to be hard. I know it was hard for me at that age.

I do lol! I think it has something to do with a lot of teens being 'night people'. I was the same way when I was a teen. I would stay up very late, sometimes all night, then I would sleep all day if I could. I have since become a morning person because that's the only way I get time to myself without kids awake lol.

in his defence he is working part time and his days off r for him to do wot he likes. If his RAF application is successful, which i hope it his, he wioll not be able to sleep in as often so he mite aswl make the most ov it.
