How absent-minded can you be?

There are times when I look for things that I am actually holding. For instance, I am checking the papers of my students then I would look for my ballpen for a few minutes only to find out I am holding it with my other hand. There are also times when I would be reading a book and after a few pages, I already forgot what happened in the pages before that or I do not know what I just read. When that happens, I will have to go few pages back. LOL! There are also times when I am about to send an SMS to a friend then just after I key in the number of the person to whom I am to send a message, I do not know why I am sending a message.

Hi dolce, I do stuff like that all the time! I will be looking for a pen too that I am holding in my hand or looking for my glasses that I'm wearing! That's really messed up! How can I forget that I'm wearing my glasses? And the writing messages, forgetting what or why I'm even writing them! I go into my room and can't remember why I went in that room for! Or I open up the refrigerator and have no idea why! Or I open up a cabinet and don't know why! Yesterday I made a cup of tea and I have a blue mug that I use and my boyfriend has a burgundy one. Now I know that mine is blue. I went into the bedroom with the mug to talk to my boyfriend and he looked at me strangley and said "you're busted"! Why are you using my mug? I looked at the mug and started to laugh and said I have no idea! I didn't even know that I took it! And I didn't! I never did that before! It's these crazy wached out things that make no sense and I don't know what or why I'm doing them! Do you?

Well, perhaps because there are times when we are too preoccupied...

Hi dolc_vita78, I have done things like as well, once I was going mad looking for my glasses, I search high and low for them and I asked my husband if he has seen them and he just looked at me as if I have two heads and then he said he knows where they were and yes it was on my head, the silly smuck!, Tamara

Don't worry my friend because I am also having the same problem like you are having. It happens especially when we are very tired and yet there are too many things to be done at a very short period of time. We tend to rush in order to complete everything before the deadline occurs and after a while our brain got exhausted and it seems like protesting and that is when we start forgetting. What you have to do is relax a little bit and let things happen smoothly one by one. If you are very forgetful, try not to multi-task. Do things one thing at a time. In this way it is easier for you to concentrate and your brain function will not be divided into many task to control actions. I am not very seriously forgetful but I do get forgetful at times. Especially when it is near my menstrual time and that is when I get very tired and moody. My husband on the other hand are also forgetful almost all the time. He walks with something in his hands but then later he asked me why is he holding the thing in the first place. Apart from all that, even though it is a normal process in life we have to watch out if it is a sign of Alzheimers. Alzheimers is a cruel illness which can make us forget about even all the basic things in life, such as how to put food into the mouth, why we should go to the toilet, and things like that.

Hi Dolce_vita78... Lol. I am forgetful. Urk. I'm 26 and I can be really absent-minded, what more when I reach 50. Yikes! Just the other day, I was tying my hair and I put it on my wrist so that it doesn't get lost. While I was tying it, I was like where the heck did I put that hair tie??? I swear i looked every where. Haha... I was so frustrated because I was thinking that I just had it somewhere. Then I went and got another hair tie only to realize that the one I was looking for was well... there on my wrist. Lol. Darn. Signs of aging huh?

I used to have a good memory once but now I am so absent minded that I have trouble remembering anything. I will walk into a room and forget why I went there. I will make a cup of coffee and walk away leaving it in the kitchen and then wonder what happened to my coffee cup. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and these are common symptoms but I do not know why and sadly the doctors have no idea either. My theory is that it is all linked to my inability to get restful refreshing sleep which is another symptom. Have you ever noticed how your mind goes really fuzzy when you are very tired? Mine is like that all the time now and I believe it stems from 2 years without restful sleep.

LOL I think we all have moments like that, I will quite often go into a room to get something and forget what it was I went in there for, I have terrible short term memory loss with things like this and yes quite often what I am looking for is on me, like glasses on my head etc. LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

Yeah, I remember freaking out while looking for my shades/sunglasses. It was very new then, it was given to me as a present. My boyfriend was laughing at me because it was just on my head...

well i can be not at all absent minded one instance and the next i am so absent minded that it totally freaks me out and also the person who is with me at that moment as i am literally screaming my head off trying to remember..... i had my glasses on one day and was searching the entire house for them....and my mom too dint realise they were on my face itself so she kept searching too.... gosh that was the heights..... i also tend to forget things i keep in my supposedly safe places..... i hope to remember where i have kept my passport the last time and i was pretty sure that it was in the 2nd shelf of my cupboard but it wasnt..... i turned the whole house upside down and then came to a conclusion that i have lost it though i never needed to take it out of the house..... after a few months while generally talking with my dad i told him that i had lost my passport and he casually and cooly turned around and told me that my passport was with him ....along with his passport.... i nearly passed out..... i hate this loss of memory that i have all the time.... and it also freaks me out that i may be the prey of alzheimers disease in the future.... scares the sh*t outta me !!

Hhahah I find it difficult too at multitasking. I can be on the internet, hear a radio programme or listening to music, talking with my son, sending an sms and then I stop thinking what I should be doing first. © ronaldinu 2008

I can be very absent minded at times. It all depends on how much I have going on in my life and whether or not I have wrote myself a reminder.

I actually have something like that either. I remember when everytime i talked to somebody i was about to tell them i have something to tell, and when they ask me what is it i sometimes asked them what should i supposed to say???? where in fact i haven't started talking about it. will, my angel told me that it's due to thinking too much, we actually have lots of things in mind that we forget thing we supposed to say or do. LOL...

hi there, I think you are not alone, i am also like that until know, at work i always forget things, ballpen, the things to be done and even what should i do. The only remedy i got is to list all the thing that i should do or do it right away as much as possible to avoid problem in the future. And focus more on my work at a time and double check to make sure i got it right. Some say it is also good to take vitamins for the brain to keep in shape and active.

we actually have the same solution to the problem, i list the things to do or do it right away. There are also times where in i go back to where i started in order for me to remember what am I supposed to do or get in some instances.

I have, a few times, put body wash in my hair and shampoo on my pouf/loofah because I'm not thinking at all in the shower. Sometimes, I can't remember if I already had shampoo so I had to do it again.

I do that kind of thing, and I am worse if I am a bit stressed about something, then I seem to be blind! I am a smoker and I have walked round the house looking for my ashtray, only to find out it was on the table in front of me. It amazes me when that happens. I can get really lost in thought and I can't see what's in front of my nose.

Wow Im glad to see I'm not alone in this... The other day I was getting ready to go somewhere, late as usual... I was anxiously looking for my car keys, mind you they are a rather large set with car keys, house keys, and a large brass belt loop hook all together... After about 20 minutes I laid the stuff in my hands down on the coach so I could dig in the trash bag and there the keys were hooked on my thumb... I felt so embarrased... Lol...

Hello dolce. I have also similar cases that I forget about the thing I am talking about. I think that it is very normal for us to have this happen as it is what we call instant forgetfulness. Good day, friend.

Hello Dolce, You have put in words what I also have in mind earlier. Hehehe. Well, when I got busy I seemed to forgot every little thing. I've run a small store and I accept typing jobs, and aside from that, it seems I become known to a neighbor who had always have their computer malfunction and refer to me and ask me to look on it every time it malfunction as if I am a technician. there are times, I carry my typing jobs inside the store and forgot about it and then the time I would have to work on it, it took time looking for it everywhere inside the house, there are so many times I have been looking for things I am just holding and at times they will laugh at me because what I am looking for is just in front of me. It seems our brain stop to work, or work of less quality when we are too busy. There are even times, when I call somebody's name and then when they are in front of me ready to listen of what I would have to say, I become speechless because I forgot what to say/ask.

Well, I do tend to forget things sometime but not too often. This usually happens to me when I am in a rush or sleep deprived. I can't work under pressure that's why when things get a little cranky and I have deadline to beat, my brain is tired functioning and will just simply be absent minded at things that I really need.

i can't remember how many times i've forgotten things :P but the one that really sticks out is when i absent-mindedly felt my pocket for my cellphone and panicked that it wasn't there, only to realize i was actually holding the phone, texting with my left hand.
