Does anyone else find high fashion amusing?

Stupid shoes - I hope you fall over and break your ankle, you stupid woman.

I don't know, I've flicked through those really thick hardcore fashion magazines that have 500 ads before you get to the actual articles, which mostly are advertising some hideous dress for $2100. Also when I see famous people in the front rows at fashion shows looking at ugly clothes (you've gotta admit, most of the time runway clothes are revolting) looking so serious, it's funny. Fashion is so superficial and one of my favourite quotes ever is this from Oscar Wilde:'A fashion is a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months.' I understand that fashion can be expressing oneself, for example the punks, the goths etc. Also I am all for individuality and dressing to make yourself happy, but honestly, being a slave to fashion and wearing something just because the magazines or the cat walks tell you to is just silly in my opinion. And everything is so expensive! The whole industry is a huge money making racket and as far as I am concerned, takes itself WAY too seriously. What do you think?

Yes that is all true. It's a kill or be killed industry. My nefew's ex. is a designer and her sister. They are all skinny and tall. I mean come on really who is that skinny. a size 0 give me a break. My othere nieces got down to a size 0 and then a more or less -1 that is what Icalled it. They all look sick. one finnally did gain weight. But the prices for them clothes could feed a hole bunch of people. But you know what else are they going to spend there money on. I have a fit if I have to spend $20.00 on a pair of jeans. I am not amused by high fashion at all. I am going to wear what I like, and I am content to wear what I can afford. I am not interested in a lot of status symbols, and other things that are, to me, just a waste of money. My husband feels the same way, and that is what works for us.

Hahaha! That quote from Oscar Wilde is a riot! Thanks for sharing that! I sometimes think these fashion stuffs are amusing too. There are just so many outrageous and funny outfits that I don't think I or anybody would want to wear anywhere. There are only a few famous Hollywood personalities that I admire for their fashion taste like Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman. And yes! These fashion and styles are way too expensive. I don't wanna empty my pocket for something as horrible looking as that! Hahaha!

i think those shows are funny as heck!! they usually look like some kind of awful freak show with clothes i have yet to see on anyone so im curious at who buys them!! especially the feathers and bubble wrap type thing haha.. i think even the rich have standards haha.. whats worse is the models are ugly too.. if its not their bodies being totally skeletal (the ones that arent naturally skinny but way overly dieted..) its the plain jane with the deer caught in the headlights look thing..

Hey coffeeshot! I totally agree with you! I think the high fashion industry is a horrible joke! The fashions are hideous! Who wears that stuff? It is ugly and stupid looking and you never see real people wearing that stuff. And I believe that the quote is correct. Maybe that is why they change it so often. Those clothes are ridiculously expensive and make no sense. The styles go out of style in a minute and no one would have time to even wear them. I do not cater to what is in style. I wear what I like. I dress fashionably, but not in fashion. I will not rush out to get whatever the lastest fashion craze is at the moment. I am way too old for that! I dress accordingly for my age although I do not dress like an old fart! I like to look in style, just not over the top! I leave that for the younger generation.

I would never wear any of it if I had the body OR money to do so! LOL I'm a t-shirt and jeans kinda gal. I do enjoy "dressing up" as well and being feminine, I love being able to embrace being a woman, but comfort and staying out of debt are two incredibly important things for me! :)

I am with you! I've noticed a lot of people on mylot will spend money on brand names. And they don't really have a lot of money anyway. I find really awesome clothes when I go shopping and they are not expensive at all. A person just has to look. I like to be unique. One fasion trend that I revile (sorry if this offends anyone) are those pointy toed shoes. They look like the shoes of the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz!

I get one of those magazines through mail..I got it because i won a subscription to pick from a few magazines and i chose one of those fashion ones because after choosing a few of my favorites,i had one more so i just picked one of those fashion magazines..You are so right ,those cloths are so darned ugly and i would not be caught wearing one..I don't know of any normal human wearing one of those outfits..They are so silly looking..its really a shock to the eyes...I haven't even seen to many stars wearing one either and you know those award ceramonies, some actress will end up wearing one of those "way out there" dresses and then they make fun of her..haha..I stick to fashion only if i like it..all that weird stuff they come up with if i do not like it i will not wear it,i have to feel good about the way i dress, and i cannot just wear something that is "IN STyle" just for the sake of style...I will leave all that to the ones out there that is swayed by fashion to the point that they do not care what they look like as long as they are "IN STYLE"....

Yes, some of the fashions that they show those runway models wearing are just atrocious! And they are ridiculously expensive! Who in the world would have that kind of money to throw away on that kind of crap?!? I mean sometimes it looks like garbage bags, or space suits, or just curtains, or something ridiculous. I mean if I had that much money I would never buy that stuff! Oh well - to each his own. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

I must admit, i do like beautiful dresses, not that i buy them or have anywhere to wear fabulous dresses like in the mags. Its nice to dream, but i don't think i'd pay the sort of prices the stars pay.

i appreciate high fashion a lot because designers were able to execute trendy clothes that i never imagined.. but the fact that those signature clothes are expensive makes me think twice of buying their pieces.. i am a practical person, i rather buy my "needs" than "wants". Plus, i enjoy shopping stuffs for home for instance., shopping for appliances, furniture and groceries..

I agree! I think it's crazy! I stick to my own personal fashion no matter what the fashion industry thinks is cool or artsy.. I agree some of those catwalk styles are hilariously outrageous.. I even think the way the models are supposed to walk is goofy!

Well, i agree that the whole industry is in one way a huge money making racket... and more and more people are falling pry to it... i am not a fan of high fashion... since i cannot even afford the cheapest clothes they have on sale... but i do appreciate the effort they put just to make it seem like the next big thing... that for me is like shear genius...

You made me smile with what you said about the magazines. I know exactly what you mean. I do not normally buy these magazines but when I do its usually something like Elle and you do have to flick through pages and pages of adverts. I sometimes look at the clothes and how much they cost but they are way out of my league.

Hi coffeeshot, I agree, I often watch these fashion programme and thinink how could anyone wear those, and I never see anyone on the high wear clothes like that, as for me it would be impossiable for me wear anything like that as I am 4ft 6in, that is why I live in my jeans which I have to turn the hems, the tops are ok but I cannot were skirts or dresses, it will look awful on me. I have never understood 'high fashion' either. I get that it's a form of art and all, but the vast majority of it is so silly. I love seeing pictures of celebs all preening in the front rows at fashion week, like they are in the most important place in the world. They all have these serious, studious looks on their faces. It's like, get over yourselves already, that dress is made of burlap for pete sakes!
