Bring back the DRAFT? Vote for 0BAMA!

Yes, it is true. 0bama is clearly on record as saying he favors that all should serve. Women, too? Read about it and a good discussion here. http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=37414 I say 0bama had better not talk about this much if he really wants to be President. What do you say?

I personally do not care for some of his political views. I agree that he should not say that much. ALthough some people will agree with him, but I am not one of them. There are a lot of people out there in this country that will definitely not agree with the draft.

Yes, just this one thing, if publicized would cost 0bama the election.

I hadn't heard this. But I think McCain needs to bring this up! Lots of people would never vote for him if they knew this. But I heard Michael Moore, of all people, talking about this today. He said they need to have the draft, but only draft the kids of the really rich, and you'd NEVER have another war. I hope they never have a draft. I have 5 grandsons and I don't want the to go into the service unless they want to, not because they have to. There are plenty kids that are signing up without the draft.

It is not surprising you had not heard this. I hadn't either! Imagine if McCain had said it. It would have been all over the evening news for several days.

I had heard it for years but not out of his mouth. My husband had said all along that he thought the Democrats would bring it back. I pray he doesn't get the chance. I have 5 grandsons and I would hate for them to be forced to be in the service. One or more might want to go but I hate for any of them to be forced. This is like his wanting to force all the kids to go to some sort of training and work for the government for a period of time right after getting out of school. This man is crazy! In other words, he wants to be the ruler of the universe!

I meant to also mention this article by Neal Boortz, a lawyer and radio host from Atlanta. Everyone thinking of voting for Obama needs to read this. It's long, but well worth the read! http://townhall.com/columnists/NealBoortz/2008/10/21/to_the_undecided_voter

I think the draft would be a bad idea. I think he is going to be President based on the polls etc lately, and if that is his intent it will happen because the Democrats will be the majority. It's crazy to have a draft when we have a volunteer military. I guess the media has kept this under wraps, and are waiting until he wins the election to bring it up.

I was in the army while there was a draft and for awhile after the draft ended. The Volunteer army is better.

Good ole' Joe. For all his visibility as Obama's vp pick, I think he is really afraid the guy will get into the presidency. He is hinting at Obama's liability as commander-in-chief at every turn. It's good to know a top level democrat is on the right side of this issue.

Considering that the STOP LOSS program is in effect for National Guardsmen, I think a draft is better. Why do those who only signed up for a small amount of time are now forced to serve 2-3x as much? Why should they pay the price? However, the draft will not come back, no matter how you Republicans want to spin it.

As one of "you Republicans", let me be perfectly clear. "Republicans oppose the re-starting of the draft". "Republicans are who ended the draft under Presidents Nixon and Ford." "Democrats will have enough power to re-start the draft if they want it." Only 0bama has said anything that could be resembled to mean re-starting the draft. If he should try to do so, he would have the votes in the House & Senate if his party stuck with him.

I do know about the military, my niece is currently in thw Navy and my son who Graduated from WEST POINT was a in the Military for number of years before he resigned his commission. I do not asy the draft is good, but with all the need ( which I am not so sure of) for personnel, where do you think they will get them?

That frightens me so much after reading that thread about him wanting to do a draft and my brother possibly being taken out of Iraq and sent off to Pakistan. Wow, and I am in the age braket and am female so I could possibly be drafted. That scares me. I am getting to the point of changing my mind once again. I am so glad that I have not voted yet so I can get a clear understanding of who I'm voting for.

Trisha, I wish they'd stop the early voting. People are encouraged to vote what they feel today, when down the line, before election, they hear things that makes them wish they had waited and voted another way. I heard someone other day say they had already voted and now wished they hadn't after they heard about his taking the money and 'speading it around'. I think people are entitled to what they make - not what someone has taken from someone else and given to them.

Getting as much info as possible before voting is always the best idea. This does make the early voting unwise. I also suspect early voting as another venue for vote fraud.

Lots of people have been brainwashed into voting for Obama before they learn anything about him. That's what they want, a run on the voters before the rest of the country votes. I pray it all backfires!

The draft isn't coming back. The military doesn't want a draft. They want people who are willing to serve. If you have a draft, you get people who don't want to be there, so they won't follow orders and just cause problems. And all voluntary army is a better army than a drafted one.

Having been in both kinds of army, I agree with you. So, don't vote for any national leader who thinks this might be a good idea.

I dont want to sound rude or offend anyone. This is just my opinion. I dont like any of his ideas or plans. I dont think we should be disarmed when we are at war with terrorists. I dont think we need draft because we have enough volunteers. I dont like any of his plans to take away more and more of our rights. I hope MCcain wins. I really do because I think Obama is way off track. He is suppose to serve us and all we hear is what he is going to demand that we do. I think that man is serious trouble. I havent been happy about his dishonesty either. Partial truths, and one world order control tactics. Ill get off the soap box now but I really hope MCcain wins.

eaforeman6, I agree with you! We don't need the draft. As you said, there are many kids already signing up without a draft. Obama doesn't worry; he has girls! And I doubt that he'd want them to be drafted - oh, they'd be exempt if he was President. I don't trust him to keep us from being attacked again. We've had a great 6 years since the attack and I think he would make us more vulnerable to another.

Ah yes, the sixties. Vietnam, the draft, the burning draft cards, and the hippies and their chants of HELL NO... WE WON'T GO!!! The kiddies running to Canada, The Conscientious Objectors, Bill Ayers and the rest of it. This is what 0bama stands for? Is this the change he means? Does he really long for the good old days that he knows nothing about?... because everything indicates that he wasn't in the US at that time... he was either in Kenya or Indonesia getting his Muslim training.... This by his own admission according to his books. People had best take a long hard long at who they are supporting... because not only is reinstating the draft a very good possibility, 0bam also has mentioned mandatory community service for everyone, as a condition of benefits including college. He has also mentioned a civilian police force to rival our military strength and expenses... I am thinking police state here, with visions of Mussolini and Hitler.

I know what you mean. Imagine if any republican candidate had said any of these thing. The outrage would be huge and the uproar thunderous. 0bama? You have to find obscure web sites to look up the quotes.

I'd say you're right. Not the best topic to bring in if he wants to be elected. Kid of scary too. Mandatory draft never really works, and specially not the way it is intended too.We had it back home - no women included - during the colonial war that lasted until 1974. Not only it was a waste of lives, but certainly a fresh supply that lasted until the country boys and the poor city boys were becoming scarce and they started calling in everyone including the ones that usually found ways of not going ( as a rule the "better of "part of the population). THen we had a revolution. Sure there were other things that led to it, but this issue was one of the things that got the whole thing in motion. The truth is even when the boys of affluent people set feet in Africa, they were given positions that kept them away from the real conflict most of the time, but when things got to a point that they were sent out in missions too, then everything changed. I understand the need for a military that is strong in resources and numbers, but mandatory anything is never the best way to achieve a goal.Specially in a case like this.

Robert Heinlien in one of his famous science fiction novels eliminated war with a constitutional admendment requireing only the voters could declare war except when the nation was attacked and that all voting for the war immediately were inducted and sent to the front. No more wars, and the draft was not necessary.

easy for obama to say since he never in the armed force. easy to say when it not you who have to be drafted. how nice he wants to make it obligation again. those rabid obama fans can then rejoice in being drafted later.

Sure. Why not. If equality is what we all want, then why not have women register for the draft as well. The real truth of it is, we can't even got kids to shower after gym class anymore, we're certainly not going to get them to go to war. The draft is a thing of the past and will remain that way. Besides, if you are enlisted, do you want some young kid that doesn't want to be there fighting next to you watching your back?

I certainly agree it is unlikely the draft is coming back. Remember this when you vote. Only one candidate is likely to even try to restart the draft.
