What and how many similar discussions have you seen?

Since I started here at myLot more than a year back, I have noticed that there are several similar discussions that are posted at a given time. For instance, the question "How many glasses of water do you drink each day?". I have seen that before... several times... and today, while going over discussions my friends started, I saw the same topic posted by several other people. I wanted to post a response but even I felt that such topic is already very boring for me considering that I have replied to similar discussions already. Another one would be the question "How many hours do you sleep?". Just like the other question, I've seen this before... several times... and then at a given time, several times... again. Though their contents are not exactly the same, I do not know how to respond so that my response wouldn't sound like a repetition of my previous responses...

I have come across many repeated discussions in the one and a half years I have been here, but I am not surprised at all. With more than 1.7 million discussions started, you can expect repetitions of common topics. For those members without unique topics to throw up, the common ones are the easiest to initiate. I could do a dozen of that too in a day, but I refrain from doing so. I think those who start such discussions don't really bother to check if someone else has already initiated something similar of late. On the flip-side, the commonly asked questions are probably the ones people find easy to participate in, so repeated or not, such topics usually still end up getting a fair amount of responses.

It's my belief people get ideas for a discussion from discussions already posted. People will either put a whole different spin on the idea they got from a discussion which I think is a good thing....or they will just change the words around and make out it's their own idea. These people are just lazy and/or greedy in my opinion.

haha ,it would be a little boring to reply tha same questions several times .Since it comes from different people ,maybe it is inevitable .And perhaps we should really have some new and useful discussions to share .

Yeah,i also find that there are some similar discussions.Just like what ronaldinu says in the floor 9,"MyLot is a big community so double posts is inevitable".So do i think. In my personal, everyone who wanna post a discuss before should search that if there is a similar discuss.

Yes I think that you are right , we should not post topics like this which are common to previous threads.

You don't have to respond.Just sit back, relax and enjoy more of them like Dog or cat? Pepsi or Coke? Money or intelligence? Your favorite fruit? Color ,food, drink and what not. Favorite move? Favorite actor? on and on and on

I'm with you, I have noticed the same thing. I also wonder if the discusion will be deleted because it's the same as another. I don't know and have found myself not responding to these repeat questions.

In the time I have been a member of myLot I have also seen the water discussion and sleep discussion appearing over and over again. There are other ones that appear often too. It's because new people join all the time and don't check to see if the subject has been asked before. I sometimes answer the same questions more than once, in slightly different ways, but at other times I think I will leave it to someone else to answer and I will look for more original topics to discuss.

I've seen quite a number too especially from newbies. Besides the ones you've mentioned, I've seen a lot of similar discussions too about how to make more money here in mylot. There are also a lot of discussions on what stars and their colors meant. OF course there is always about the newbie asking for help here in mylot. I think it would be good if they search first for discussions before starting a new one.

Hi dolce, I have noticed that they are getting to be more and more often and I am starting to think that it isn't a coincidence since I am seeing them on the same day or the next day! I really am starting to think that they are being copied! Yes I said it! Copied! I'm not afraid to speak the word! I believe that they are seeing the discussions being started and are starting them almost right away and word for word and I don't understand why mylot isn't noticing this! They are even putting them in the digest! This is really getting ridiculous! I have been noticing this and have kept quiet and answered them, but I am starting to get annoyed at this point. I am starting to find it hard to believe that these people are not aware that these discussions are there. I know that the population on mylot is quite high and that of course some discussions will be repeated, but in the same day or a day later. I am just thinking that it is too coincidental. Am I the only one thinking like this?

My lot is a big community so double posts is inevitable. It is very difficult to avoid the same subject being posted over and over again. There are no means how to ensure that such things wont happen. © ronaldinu 2008

I have seen a lot of discussions that are very much similar. Well, with the population of this site, this is not impossible. But what I have noticed is that similar topics go on and on. They may not really be considered coincidence at all. I am sure that those who post those discussions know that what they are posting are existing discussions and that they just wanted to post something. It really can get boring to see the same topics over and over.

Hi Dolce. Yes, I agree with you, several topics have been modified or even titled exactly the same as the others. I do not know if this is purely coincidence or what, it's up to mylot administration to review. I respond to these topics once or twice only. Have a great day!

Yes, I have seen many similar discussions here. At first, when i have something to say, I replied to the discussion, but as time goes by when i think the discussion is still the same, I got bored to answer the discussion similar to what i have responded. But i can't blame the members because mylot has a big population so no wonder that there are really lots of similar discussions here.
