I have a 5 year old son who is quite smart. He remember things, he does things without our help. He just watch people and he already knew what they are doing. like when he was 3, he already know how to turn on the computer and changed the operating system (we use linux and windows) and nobody taught him that. At 3 and half he already knew how to use the computer and some items he already knew how to open. Now he is 5 he is playing DOTA an online role playing game, and one time he did play online! his opponents could not believe they were playing with a 5 year old (of course he does not win) One time he told us why his daddy did not attend to his needs during his birthday and that his dad just keeps on playing on the computer, and that incident happened two years ago. He is fond of taking pictures of himself and already know how to use a camera when he was three. You really don't have tot each him, he just watch and he will know, now he likes singing and I recorded his voice on my phone, the next thing I know he is recording his voice on my phone without my help. We think he is smart but not sure if he is gifted, we want to have an idea if he is so we can help him more, and so we can satisfy his curiosity thirst. He can also notice small things, like watching soap operas, he ask a lot of question then one time he said that the actor is not good on acting He really is smart and loves debating with me. Oh and he ask me last week if fire works?he saw a sign saying fireworks, so he figured out, fire.. works.. fire can work! and even before he ask a question he somewhat knew the answer and he just ask to confirm his thought and if your answer is different from what he thinks it will surely lead to a long hour debate WHAt do you think guys? How will you know if a kid is a gifted one?

Your kid is one genius. Hehehe! What did you give him while he was still a baby? Anyways, my friends and I used to talk about kids nowadays are way smarter than their parents, we try to decipher the patterns of their ability to absorb all the things they learn and one of the things we considered is the milk. Anyways, just hone the skills and intelligence of your child. And since he is into DOTA, people say that DOTA-addicted people are good in strategies. You really are one proud mama!

im amazed when i read your post! im a college student taking up elementary education major in special education! i have a strong feeling your son is gifted with more than what a normal person has! there are checklist provided for you to determine if your child is really gifted! furthermore, he can be assessed by some professionals and his i.q can also be tested! God bless!

A gifted child usually learn faster than normal kids. There minds are advance and they do things at a very young age. Usually they love to read books and learn new things. They love to asked question and they can remember everything that you taught them at a short span of time. They also got curious about things around them and started checking whats inside those stuff. Sometimes they can took clock or even there own toys and they figure out how to fixed it all by themselves. If your kid normally do this then there is a big possibility that he is genius. In the state there is an IQ test to prove that. Perhaps you can also do that by the time your child started going to school.

Actually there is a test. My son was also very smart as a toddler and he could read at age 4. We sent him to French Immersion School -no problem- he picked up French in a flash and most of his subjects were taught in French. I believe it was in Grade 6 or 7 that the school suggested we should let him have an IQ test. We did and it came out that he was in the top 2% of the population as far as IQ was concerned. He was then transferred to a school for gifted children. This was really good for him and kept him very humble and focused since all the other children were at least as smart as him or smarter. He went to university and is now doing well in his chosen field. So why don't you enquire about the IQ test.

Hi pehpot, wow..he is indeed smart! There are school I guess who will provide these kids questionnaire to test their IQ and for everyone to confirm if he is gifted intellectually, although, in your son's case, we can tell that he is really smart, we just want to know more about it so that you can also send him to school that will cater his needs for being smart! I guess it is better to approach any teacher so that they can guide you in what particular center who will bring him for some testing, it will be ideal really to know so that his smartness will be taken cared of!

There is something you need to be careful of with gifted children, if your child truly is gifted you may find they need more stimulation in a certain aspect for instance if a child seems to be very mathamatical then they will need constant mathamatical stimulation otherwise they get bored extremely quickly. There is also something to be aware of when parenting a gifted child, some parents see a gift developing and start with the " omg my kid is a genius lets map out his/her future for them " then everything you do for them is aimed at that one thing which you think they should do and then it's no longer a thought of giving them as much of a normal life as possible it's about achieving that goal you set your mind and heart on. Every parent wants the best for their children but there is a fine line between what is best for them and how far your willing to push them for your own personal gratification.

It seems he's gifted in some way ^_^ And he belongs to the observant group of learners ^_^ That's why he is self taught alot of things.. hehe ^_^ That's good for u and him ^_^ Though it's good, but there will be times whereby he will pick up the wrong things too, for he still doesn't know what's right or wrong ^_^ Thus, it's still better to keep a close eye on him b4 he starts to follow doing something real bad ^_^ NO matter how gifted they are, kids will always be kids still ^_^

Well as I could see, your kid has signs of being gifted. We just can’t say yet if what category he belongs. He could either be mildly gifted, or moderately gifted, highly gifted, exceptionally gifted or profoundly gifted. Later on if assessments will be done on him you will know exactly what category does he belong. Actually as the child started to show exceptional talent then you can already say whether he is exceptional or not. He could be as young as 3 or even 2 or perhaps 1 year old provided he is already showing exceptional ability to perform a skill at a level usually not reached until later years then he could be gifted. Example is if a three-year old may be reading like a third grader or can memorize full songs and long poems only an adult can do then he is gifted. There are also cases of exceptional non-academic abilities like if or a nine-year-old could play the piano like an expert adult who has studied it for years, or he could draw or paint as real painters do. Gifted children are usually, but not always, high achievers. Even when they don't achieve good grades, they tend to score high on achievement tests. They love to learn and their love of learning, good memories, and ability to learn quickly and easily enable them to succeed. Although a gifted child is motivated from within, I believe the support of the parents is very important in order for him to maximize all his potentials.

I coudl say a better child/kid can be grown with intellect mind or brain its depends on the parents how they share with the kids. Better the parents are well sharing the things before the child at all times then the child too learn the things in earlier stage when they wont have their own interest.

He certainly sounds gifted! Depending on where you live, most schools usually have tests that show which students stand out (or fall below standards). They often have special programs to further challenge those who are gifted. If your school system does not have extra programs for gifted children, I would just continue to feed him with information in the form of books, educational shows, films, computer games etc. Let him absorb as much as he wants to. Answer his questions to the best of your knowledge and teach him how to find answers online. Get him puzzle books and games that will challenge his mind. In this way you can help him flourish.
