Some times your SO may have dated a woman before he met you that was just absolutely adored by his whole family but for whatever reason they don't work out. Then he moves on and starts dating again. I have seen where the family will be not very kind to this new woman and make her feel pressure to be like the old girlfriend out of partiality.. Has any of you experienced this or have you as a parent been guilty of this behavior?

Yes, I have experienced this. It puts a lot of stress and strain on the relationship, especially if he is close to his family. For some reason, the family forgets all the negative aspects of the ex and puts her on a pedestal. In my situation, he told me that his family did not always like the ex, either. He didn't understand his family's attitude or treatment of me nor did he understand his family's new-found love of his ex. It was frustrating to say the least!

I have never been treated like that with parents but i have felt I have not quite measured up with the fella himself because of the ex, sometimes if a fella is not quite over the ex it can be heartbreaking..i hope everything works out for you..
