Have you ever been "sent on a fool's mission?" Yesterday, I was.

Go to the State Police and have them lazer scan your fingerprints. Sounds simple enough? Wrong. I was emailed a print out of a receipt. Told to bring that with me. OK, fine, did that. Called to try to get an appointment, they told me they don't do appointments, just show up between this time and that time, did that, too. Get to the station, they're busy, had to wait. Waited half an hour, OK, they had tons of 911 calls coming in, to be expected. Then they ask for a bar code. None on the receipt sent to me. They ask for print cards, supposed to be done by lazer and I was told I don't need print cards for lazer (showed them all the instructions on the email that I printed out). Well, they have to either send you a bar code for us to scan or fingerprint cards and we do it by fingerprints. One or the other. So I went there for nothing, but the day wasn't a total bust. I bought and had two tires changed for winter and I picked up an application for work from a temporary service agency. Luckily I had planned to do a couple of other things, too. So have you ever been sent on a fool's mission? Have you had a day that was a total useless loss or were you able to rescue it by doing other things?

All the freaking time! Can't name a specific one off hand, but it seems I'm always wandering around in circles!

If I have to plan some trips I will make my route so I don't cross tracks too often, but sometimes I will get something that means I have to take it home before I can go out again. But, if say I want to go to Sam's I'll try to include a trip to HEB at the same time because they are in the same area - I won't go to the neighborhood HEB because of the vile parking lot and the trouble with the other customers there.

I have that problem driving because I think things go in a different order than they really do on my route. I've had to start using maps and addresses of places so I don't drive in circles. But half the time someone will want something different or something somewhere where I just was. Thanks and take care.

I never have been totally on a fool's mission, but sometimes it does turn out that way.I almost always group several errands together in the vicinity of where I am going so I do not waste as much gas. Why are you being lazer printed? Good luck with the jobs.

Good question, one I asked the person who sent me on the mission, so here goes the answer: The light printed fingerprints go straight into the computer and the background check takes only three days. The traditional ink on cardboard takes three weeks. So expediency. Job, teaching, substitute through regular teaching requires a current background check, too many pedophiles get fired one place and just go to another state. Some of the schools in NY State were nailed on that a few years ago and now they all want proof, in writing, from a bonafide agency, can't trust the word of some teachers anymore. Thanks and take care.

Okay, so this is for a job possibility. I have been background checked so many times in the last few years. All of my jobs involve caring for people.

Yeah, me, too, at least 4 times, Federal, State, County, volunteer organizations. The price is $99 to have it pop on a screen and print out. Someone else can pay for it.

That sounds like a pretty frustrating day. But, you were able to turn it in to a day where you got something done. Good for you. Can't think of a day lately where I was frustrated toward meeting a goal. I've had a good streak recently where I really get quite a bit done in just one day. I've been using my method of deciding the day or 2 before what I will do for how long, and boy, is that efficient! For example, the other day, I answered emails and myLot discussions for 1 hour, then wrote articles for the internet for 3 hours. Then, I had lunch. Then, I went grocery shopping and came home. Then, I finished knitting a scarf I've been wanting to complete for a long time. I felt so accomplished at the end of that day! Good luck with getting your fingerprints done and looking for work. Hope the temporary work thing works out, if you don't find something more permanent soon.

Thanks, I'm going to have to plan like you or I'm going to end up all day Mylotting and I can't afford the time to do that right now. Even if I don't mylot all day, there's Helium, Ebay, Etsy, researching recipes, researching my interests, etc. Thanks and take care.
