If you are an artist, or a writer, or in any line of work that requires some kind of creativity to do your work, and is in the pits, yes like a writer's block, an artist's block, and you can't think of anything to write or design. It's been days and you are pressured on this project and the deadline is closing in. How do you guys do it? Would you drop it all and go for a walk or something and came back refreshed and even perhaps inspired and with renewed vigor to burn the candle and make it before the deadline?

I like to write, am working on a book right now.. mostly the outline though have filled in some, but have lots left to do.. It stayed unworked on for some time, but recently seems to be taking good shape! I have to have lots of quiet contemplation, dreaming/weaving time. I call it quietude! without it, forget it! Or if I get involved in too many other things taking up too much time. Regular quietness and solitude... Otherwise I just cannot dig up any creativity at all.

I am a writer and an artist and I know the situation quite well. There are a few things that I usually try if I am stuck or have a writer's/artist's block. Going for a walk is one of them so I think that is a great suggestion. Sometimes I listen to music and dance in my living room, I don't know why but music seems to have a positive effect on my creativity. If it is an artist's block I surf the internet, sometimes I look at art but not always. I also visit some of my favourite websites to find something interesting or something inspiring. If it is a writer's block I sometimes try "non-stop"-writing. I write down anything that comes to mind, any thought no matter how banal or stupid. I just write and write. Sometimes a few lines out of several pages are useful. Sometimes everything is completely rubbish but that is not important, the important thing is that you get STARTED and avoid feeling completely stuck.

Splendid my friend. I guess we do have some in common. I go and listen to music too or do some crazy stuff in the house just to get me off the pressure. Music jogs the mind to whatever the mode of music we prefer to listen. In some way it resets our creativity back on track. Thanks for the awesome response. Cheers!!!

I would definitely go out for a walk if I was not in the mood for writing and I had a deadline to meet. There is no point sitting worrying about it. Getting out into the fresh air will refresh the body and get the thoughts flowing more freely. I get some of my best ideas when I'm out walking, so I always carry a pen and paper with me so I can stop and write things down before I forget. I usually come rushing back from a walk eager to get back to what I'm writing, fill with new enthusiasm, or having thought of a better way of approaching the subject.
