Do you have to take your care to a VRT Vehicle roadworthiness test so that your car will be certified before being granted road license? Is VRT compulsory in your country? © ronaldinu 2008

We have vehicle safety inspections that are required each year and if you do not pass, you must repair the problems before you are approved to drive the car on the road. I have a passenger car and the safety inspections for passenger cars and light-duty trucks require that the following items be checked: suspension components, steering, braking systems, tires and wheels, lighting and electrical systems, glazing (glass), mirrors, windshield washer, defroster, wipers, fuel systems, the speedometer, the odometer, the exhaust systems, horns and warning devices, the body, and chassis. For most vehicles in the 42 county, Non-I/M region this safety inspection will also include a Visual Anti-Tampering Check. The Visual Anti-Tampering Check is an examination of the vehicle to see if the required emissions components have been tampered with or removed.

I am in Pennsylvania and I am glad that they have extensive tests as it makes the cars safer, not just for the driver but for the environment.

In France, all vehicles have to go and get tested called the 'Control Technique' or CT for short, every Two Years. A few years ago, they use to be very casual affairs with most mechanics just letting you off with a warning that something would need changing in time for the next test (in two years). However, nowadays, they have improved the amount of checks that have to be done and they also aren't as generous on any faults (which is a good thing really). Mind you it still surprises me that they are only done every two years, and not each year.

If that is where you take your vehicle to the police station and have them check it out and inspect it then yes we do have it and it is mandatory to have it done to get a sticker we need to drive our cars we have to have it to get license plates. If not then I am not sure.

Hi ronaldinu, We have something like that but its called MOT if it pass, you get a certificate and its road worthy, or if it failed, you will have to get your car in a condition that it should pass and get it tested again. Tamara

In the UK we call them MOT which has to be done ONCE a year if the car is over 3 years old. When I first got my car I was fortunate in that the car didn't need an MOT for the first two years. It can be quite pricey especially if they need to do work to your car for it to be able to pass it's MOT. What is an MOT? (Ministry of Transport Test) a compulsory examination of any motor vehicle over three years old. This examination is designed to help combat the use of non-Road legal vehicles on our roads and also to test the environmental friendliness of the vehicle itself.

What we have here in the UK is the MOT (Ministry of Transport) test. That all cars over the age of 3 years have to go through. Tyres, lights, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, suspension, and condition of chassis and bodywork all has to be passed, before being granted a road fund licence.

Yes, we do have to get a 'pink slip' before our car registration can be renewed. You do not need one of these if your car is less than three years old (I think it's three years in the state I live in) - but after that, you must have a certified mechanic check your car for brakes, tyres, rust, etc., etc. He will tell you what needs fixing - and if everything's okay, he signs the paper so you can have your car registered!

think i know what you are askig.. here in the states you have to take driver education first. then you get a learner permit to be able to tought how to drive. once you are done with all that, then you go and take your driver test. if you pass then you get a lic for driving. when you buy a car, we have to take them inspection, make sure everything works good and its safe. where i live at we do when we first get the car. some states you take them once a year. but in my state we take the cars in once every few years for polution test.
