It's would be an outrage to hang Obama in effigy but apparently it' "art" when you hang a white woman. Please explain how this is not a double standard. Are we moving forward on the issue of Racism? Or are we holding on to the past?

There's no explanation for where that came from, who made it, and why. That would be useful info. Regardless of overall 'appropriateness', the racism claim falls flat. 'White' people were never lynched the way 'blacks' were in this country, so the image of a black person being hung OBVIOUSLY is far more racially-charged than that of a 'white' person. If that seems unfair, well...so were the lynchings themselves. Even from a purely artistic standpoint (if indeed that was the intent; you say "it's "art"" without mentioning who's even saying that), this is pretty weak tea. It's just a dressed up mannequin. This must have taken 15 minutes to put together, feh.

so sorry Mr V, I forgot to post the link, But for you I post it special. OK Mr V. I don't mean any disrespect Mr V. It's good that you only see the racism aspect yet still avoid answering the question.

"Don't tell me that whites aren't attacked!" No one's telling you that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Whites' were never lynched and HUNG the way 'blacks' were during that dark time in American history. Stop reading what you want to read, and read what's actually written next time.

If it were Obama of course it would be a racial issue you have the whole history of lynching... it should be seen just as offensive because it's the same concept. The person who did this thought in a way they are punishing Palin it's just retarded. Either way it's not art it is just plain childish... a Chucky sort of childish.

I'll agree that it's quite irreponsible on the "artist's" part. However, I don't exactly see where you're trying to go with the "What if it were Obama" part. Are you trying to generalize some sort of hypocrisy among the left?

Well, racist? no, Tasteless? Yes. Art? Absolutely not. it's wrong no matter who is in that noose. And as tightly wound and touchy as the secret service is these days, I wouldn't be suprised to see this guy get a visit from them. May not happen, but you never know, we're living in pretty touchy times.

xfahctor, You were right, The SS did pay him a Visit. But they found him to be no threat. He took it down anyway. However some people that put up Obama effigies in protest weren't so lucky. They probably forgot to put on their Pink t shirts.

You might want to post a comment in the duel section on this page: http://www.squidoo.com/101-things-sarah-palin which asks if "making fun of candidates" is right or wrong. I'd love to have your input! I've actually missed the noose picture. I'll go look that up and perhaps add it to that page.

Anyone who reads here knows that I am no Palin lover and that I have no problem with being called a liberal, but this is beyond the bounds of good taste. The guy should get slapped upside the head by someone that cares about his safety, and at the very least, in the "spirit of Halloween" which he invokes, his house should be heavily egged and TP'd. If he were in my neighborhood, he'd be getting an earful from me.

chameleonsdream, Thanks for your comments, Did you watch the video? I forgot to post the link. it's in post #1. The interview the guy who put up the display. He admits that if he did this with an Obama effigy he would get a brick through his window. I would hope that his neighbors would line up to slap him upside the head though.

I was so shocked when I saw that! Imagine if it had been done against someone of the 'other' party? The outrage would be nonstop and highly publicized. Or even of another race (which yes would be despicable /also.) I really think some people hate her with a passion, cause she's a successful woman but isn't all gung ho for terminating preborn children and dismissing it as a 'woman's health issue'! Some just can't believe that! (Expecting everyone because it's called a woman's health issue should then just be quiet on the issue, like it doesn't affect children and fathers; or rather, I guess they have zero rights, but that's ok.) Course there's a lot of hatred of conservatives anyway.. (The new politically correct and enlightened prejudism!?) I hate to sound partisan. I used to be so much more moderate!! Still am usually! But I express my concerns when I have 'em. I wasn't agreeable to the further right if they seemed to want to legislate morality back in the 80's and 90's either.. and would often say so. And I still lash out at conservatives and christians when they are against birth control! That one just really gets me going! I mean is the issue the preborn children? Or is it about mandating other's behavior like so many accuse.. Well, there I go venting again! Good grief!

Actually it was done to Obama. On a college campus as a protest to this "display". Those people were arrested and investigated.

I don't know if it has anything to do with racism or if we should try to make it that way, but this is the work of an immature idiot. Anyone who would create that needs to have his/her head examined by Homeland Security. Anyone who gets that worked up over politics is a dangerous person.

The people who do not see why we can not allow any of this hanging in effigy business at all if it is not allowed for either side may be hopeless as to understanding any complex sensitive issue. Then again, perhaps this is the work simply of trouble makers hammering home the point they can get away with it and as a warning they expect to get away with much more after the election. In any case, this using a noose business is stupid.

The love of the left, so open minded now are they not. We are told that conservatives are full of hate yet I am sure this effigy was not hung by a group of conservatives. I do not know if this was part of the effigy you have a picture of but one has students shooting Sarah Palin. Just imagine what would have happen if someone was shooting an effigy of a hanging Obama.

If someone did this to an image of Obama, that person would be called a racist, a KKK member, a Nazi, anti-American, and all sorts of other names. I guess there is a double standard when it is a white person in the image though. I don't think that is art at all. The fact that it would even be called art by anyone is an insult to true artists everywhere.

How can anyone make the argument that it is a "double standard" or "what if this was Obama's image". Why aren't you outraged PERIOD. What difference does it make. It wouldn't matter if it were an unknown person or just a dummy. This is offensive. Doesn't anyone feel that way???? It seems to me that the presidential race has made people completely numb in the area of humanity. I would take this as a threat or inciting violence. Can't the local authorities demand it be removed?

I don't care whether it's 0bama, Palin or anyone else...doing something like that isn't art...it's sick and twisted. I hope they catch the person doing it and make them publicly apologize for being such a jerk. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Just look at it as conformation that the Dims are desperate, & that this is proof (as if we needed more--ha!) that she is EFFECTIVE! I love it when we get their feathers all ruffled up; they tend to get reckless when that happens. The Dims are a train wreck, & the more they do this, the more they make this obvious to EVERYONE. Maggiepie--laffin' all the way to the polls (tho actually, I already voted).

I'm Glad to hear from you,Maggiepie! It's good to hear a positive word in this mess. I guess I need to watch my own feathers they tend to get a bit ruffled at times too. I don't want to make any major flubs. But I agree they are afraid of her. Especially the press. She doesn't tell them what they want to hear! She said in her nomination speech at the RNC that she wasn't coming to Wash. to impress the media. So,of course they have to tear her down. But she has made them look foolish. Of course you will never convince a Leftie of that, their standards are pretty low. For their own anyway.

morethana molehile I am so damned sick of all this foofrah about the d emocrats and the republicans and all the socalled awful things they do. nobody should hang either the idiot sarah palin or obama in effigy and here in mylot we should not be insulting the democrats or the republicans, if we cannot keep civil tongues in our mouths, then tape the d amned things shut and tape your blasted fingers so you cannot spew all this hatred towards both parties. I thought we were alladults here but we are not. we areacting like kids on a playground insulting and taunting, first about sarah an d McCain then about obama and Joe , enough already p eople time out, grow up and learn some respect for each other.

Hatley, I don't have hatred towards anyone. Only against false Ideas that it's racism for one person to do something but it "art" when someone else does it. Your rant is typical of what I would expect from someone caught with their pants down. "When you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the one that yelps loudest is the one that got hit." It's funny how whenever a lib is called on something the first thing they want to do is take away the offenders freedom of speech.

Thats Mags, You're pretty eloquent yourself., but when I reread my post I see one mistake I made, when I said they want to "...take away the offenders freedom of speech." I should have said that it's the Offender that Wants to take away the citizens freedom of speech. Just ask Joe the Plumber and now Barbara West.

AMEN, More! I was about to reply the same way, essentially, but then I saw YOUR post, & you put it as well as I could EVER have done. THANK YOU. I really hate it when Leftists say that Conservatives are "hateful" when all we do is repeat the Left's OWN WORDS and/or report WHAT THEY DID. THAT IS NOT "HATE." But again, we shouldn't expect logic or truth from the Sol Alinsky (sp?) mob. THEY were TAUGHT, "Anything goes." LIE to get your way; 'ethics' be hanged. Those are for sissies & LOSERS. In short--do ANYTHING, illegal, immoral or whatever it takes, but overthrow the right wing." We were NOT brought up with that idea. Yes, at times there are folks on our end of the political spectrum that don't grasp that concept, but unlike the LEFT, dishonesty is NOT OUR DEFAULT POSITION. Sometimes, it's as simple as that. During our election time, they had put a large talking robot in our capital city. They said it was art. Anyway there was a microphone and you could say anything and the robot would move around and say it loud. So what happened was that some people started to abuse it and were saying political issues in there. So imagine this...New York City, a robot about 20 meters tall, screaming his artifical lounges out saying: Bush is crazy. Ok, this example is mild, compared to what it was said here about our politicians. But it was in the name of ART. Yeah right...
