A walk around campus, could you make it?

Black Stylettos - A beautiful pair of shoes

I came across this story this morning in my email and wanted to share it and see your opinions on it: ORLANDO, Fla. (UPI) -- Several male students at the University of Central Florida say they now empathize with women after going on a march wearing women's' shoes with high heels. Psychology student Ivan Gonzalez said after the volunteer high-heel walk around campus, he has a better understanding of what life can be like for a woman wearing the treacherous footwear, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported. "I couldn't really walk," the 21-year-old said after Wednesday's event. "I had to hop." The high-heeled efforts by male students were part of the school's Strike Back Against Dating/Domestic Violence campaign. The Sentinel said 21-year-old communications major Jenn Edelson donned her high heels to join the men during the march to increase solidarity between the sexes. "It's their turn today," the volunteer march participant told the newspaper. "It shows they want to understand us better." So tell me, ladies and men...Do you think you could manage to walk around campus in a pair of high heels? Without breaking your ankle bones or falling down more than twice? Personally, I think it would be a piece of cake Click on the picture, then imagine walking some distance in these beautiful shoes

That's pretty funny. I could walk around a campus in heels, I wear heels all the time...course I am a chick, so that would explain it. High heels that are the pointy types aren't really that hard to walk it, it just takes practice and a conscious effort to walk in the right spot on the heel. If you walk too far over to either side of the half inch sized spaced, you will fall over. You have to plant the whole thing on the floor with even pressure. It also is easier for women to walk in high heels than men because of the way our hips are shaped and the way we stride.

I agree, they shouldn't be that hard to walk in with a little practice. I wore pumps to a costume party, going as a pregnant woman of all things (my ex-wifes idea), and I didn't have that much trouble in them and I didn't fall down I had more trouble sitting down with my pregnant tummy than I did walking

I am a female and NO I could not walk around campus in high heels. I can't wear them at all. Don't like them, they are nice looking but they should be used as a form of torture not a form of fashion. Sooooo uncomfortable.

Torture? That's a tad drastic I don't think they would be any more torture than tight jeans or thong panties that won't stay put

I don't blame you, I hate tight jeans. I've never tried a thong

Well, I'm sure that I COULD. I am not sure that I want to. I haven't worn heels like that around much in more than a few years. I think it's great that men can empathize by doing this, because it is a pain to wear high heels, just as it is a pain to dress up. I appreciate any man's willingness to put themselves into a torture device such as stillettos - since I hear a man invented them LOL! I am all for people dressing comfortably, every day, no matter where they are. I think we would all be happier and there would be much fewer clothing caused injuries or 'malfunctions'

I'm all for being relaxed, clothing wise I'd rather be stuck in a pair of high heels than a shirt and a tie and a suit. Dressing up is not comfortable for either gender, I'm afraid

That's really funny. As for me, no I don't think I could do it these days. Going back a few years - yep I definitely could have! Sadly, after having my 3 kids and ending up with misaligned hips... I really battle to walk in high heeled shoes these days. Booo Hooo - I need the extra height - lol. I take my hat off to those men who did the walk - Go Boys!

Heels and bad hips are a bad combination, that's for certain Maybe you could wear some of those heels that are thick and clunky

You mean like platform shoes? Yep, I have some awesome platform trainers. Luckily for me I work from home inbetween running the kids around, so informal dress is the uniform around here. I hung up my high heels along with my suits when the twins came along. God forbid I ever have to go back to work in an office - lol!

Just have to keep practicing They can make your legs sore at first, as well as your feet, but you'd get used to them after awhile I'm sure

When I worked at AOL, I wore heels to work everyday. It was a HUGE building so I know exactly what it feels like. After a while you get used to it, but until then OUCH!! Now though If I had to do that again I would probably get a nice pair of flats lol. I can't tell you the miles and miles I have walked in heels heheheh.

There are times it is sooooo much better for the back to wear flats! I still wear heels when I am out with my fiance, and dressed all nice, no matter how much we walk around!

Flats can be cute Heels are better though! If the job requires that much walking then you are better off with flats

Do women have to wear high heels? Is there such a rule on campus? That would be wrong. The proper thing would be for the school authorities to wear high heels too. Cheers!! In my neck of the woods, women choose to torture themselves of their own accord to look sexy. Cheers!!

I'm not sure what the purpose of having a bunch of guys walk around in stilettos is going to solve. Walk a mile in somebody's shoes is a metaphor, its not be taken literally. Plus the only reason women wear high heels is to raise their butt higher, and ladies, us guys notice that, thanks.

If I see a woman in high heels, I don't notice their butt, I am too busy looking at their legs and them shoes We once had a day at the college I worked at where the students spent part of the day in a wheelchair, just to see what handicapped students go through. They were amazed at how difficult that was, especially trying to get up a slight incline

I usually fall in heels tho LOL. or kinda trip forward . Wonder how they could walk in them my fiance would kill himself in shoes like that

I'm sure most of those guys tripped or stumbled and fell down trying to walk in them heels They need more practice Nice hat you are wearing in your photo, I have five or six Pirates hats. Been a Pirates fan my whole life and, no matter how bad they get, will stay one for the rest of my life. Let's Go Bucs!

Hi fwidman, I couldn't wear those shoes, its too high for me let alone the men, well done to them for trying, those shoes can do some damage to a persons foot I'm sure and I'm quite happy wearing my flats and trainers thank you. Tamara

I would never dream in walking in a high heel stiletto. Even if i was a woman I would wear anything but that. I would not feel comfortable. There are other type of women shoes which make you feel feminine without damaging your feet. © ronaldinu 2008

For shoes and feet, the jury is still out as to whether high heels are harmful. Doctors just like to change their minds about things, shoes, eggs, milk, you name it. One day it's bad for you, the next it's okay

Piece of cake? Have you seen how a woman walk when she first get herself a pair of high heel? Man, i must say that this thing takes a lot of practices and patience. Even after you get yourself familiarize, it would also take a toll on your health if you walk a lot in them. But why do women go for it ? It is due to the fact that they make them sexier and more beautiful!

I don't think I could step off in one. I wear heels but not the stiletto nor the extra high ones. My heel has to be broad so that it can manage my weight and makes me comfortable. But it is good that the males has participate in this venture because Domestic Violence is really putting a toil on us here in Jamaica. I wonder if I can arrange one too. I would surely wants to see you in one Fwidman.

I think most of my female friends on here would love to see me walking in any of the ones I have used as an avatar Maybe you could try talking to the schools around you and see if they like the idea. Maybe they could let the students swap roles for the day and everyone could see how the other half gets through the day Domestic violence is not nice!
