Where do you prefer to use car? Far or Near?

What I mean is when going to a place, when do you usually use your car, when that place is far, or when that place is near? I guess my answer will be more on the opposite of your answer, because me, I use car when it's not that far, the reason is I will just use lesser gas which means also cheaper when my destination is just near. But when the destination is far and I always go there, then I prefer to commute because it's cheaper. For example, in my case, My work is far from home so if I will compute the expense of commuting and having a car, I will save more when I will commute. How about you?

My place of work is very near from my home. Therefore I think by using a car to my work place doesn't consume much petrol. However when going out to far places, for example if I want to go to my relatives' house I would also use a car because it is more convenient. Furthermore I don't usually go to their house and a one time journey once in a while doesn't affect me that much on the financial side. Maybe if I want to go to places very far from my home, for example if we want to go to the northern side of my country we would take a bus because the cost of taking a bus is way, way cheaper than driving a car.
