Do you think that all the animals they say are extinct are gone forever?
Or do you think they may have just changed over the years to survive?
My 11 year old grandson asked this question after seeing what happens when a fish is kept in the dark. It will grow a film over its eyes and will eventually grow
scales on them. The off spring were even born without eyes because they had no use for them. He watches a lot on the Discovery Chanel. He now thinks that most animals didn't become extinct but evolved into another state of being by adapting to the present environment. Could this be what has happened and we just missed it while it was happening? Extinct or Evolve what your guess on that?

Hi
I must salute the pwer of thinking of your 11 year old grandson.
I think his idea which says that actually missed creatures are being evolved seems to me logical.
Extinct? But where they have gone? Something can't be changed to no-thing. And also something can be created from no-thing.
Extinct? yes, that form is no longer there. The term 'extinct' may be used to imply a change of form and character. Which also implies that changed creatures are actually 'evolved'
I have no hesitation to be a supporter of your little(?) grandson. lol

Oh yeah, he is very smart. He just changed schools because the
one he was in did not have advanced classes and he was getting bored
with what they offered. He has the mind and intelligence more advanced than his age.
We laugh at his mom (my daughter)because he is always asking her questions she has to look up to be able to give him answers. He is now using the computer to get some of these answers. He is also quite an artist. He really makes us think.

The evidence of some is pretty evident. Look at things like lizards, aligators, crocodiles and even some exotic kinds of birds ..uuhh dinosaurs anyone??? Its even said that loch ness monster is probably a left over of some kind of water dwelling dinosaur called plesiosaur.

Hi twoey my thoughts are both has happened..unfortunatley I haven't seen the programme your son saw but yes beleive that put in another environment whatever it may be an animal or fish will evolve to the conditions around it and could look like something we have never encountered before whereas we will have...take the elephant it descended from the mammoth, tigers I beleive from the sabre tooth tiger, crocodiles have evolved from the dinosaurs, repiles lizards are from the dinosaurs and have evolved to smaller versions of the dinosaur etc etc also fish and animals that were thought extinct as well are being found often...also some that are new species...yes there are some that are extinct like the dido, and others so yes I beleive that animals etc evolve and become extinct too...blessings littleowl
