What kind of Controllers do you like for Gaming for a Change?

Game Controllers - In the image, we could see the controller of Microsoft's X-Box 360, Sony's PlayStation 3 as well as Nintendo's Wii.

Well, when you compare the controllers of those three known consoles, PlayStation 3, X-Box 360 and Wii, we can easily say that Wii has the advantage on being innovative. PlayStation and the X-Box still has that eye and hand (well fingers actually) coordination while with the Wii, players end up moving more than just their fingers. On hand helds, since Microsoft hasn't yet tried to released a hand held of their own, we can compare Sony's PSP and Nintendo's DS. PSP still with the eye and finger coordination when playing games but, with the DS, aside from the usual eye and finger in use, the touch pad also enables players to have a more different game experience. The mic seems to be around too for the DS as well as for the PSP 3000. Mentioning those, what can you think of how games can be developed to give gamers another different gaming experience? So far, Wii has that advantage..

What Id really like would be that virtual reality simulation thing that happens in movies. For starters, the goggles kinda thing would be great. You'd just sit on a chair, put on a headset and maybe gloves (?) and see the game as the very world that you are in. Of course it would even be exponentially better if a whole room could be dedicated to that 'controller'. There's a portion where you're going to input some data, a disc, or a program of the game, control your settings, and you're all set. Some kind of suit would be used so the player will get to see when he's hit or something. Same thing goes with weapons, if ever. Now thats interactive. But then again, this concept might be realized some decades from now. Hey, its just a thought.

You'd really have to get a very big room for such games with constant movement.. run around a lot and you'd be hitting the walls if it were the case as well.. gloves would gain weight whenever one tries to pick up an item from the virtual simulation and the actual texture of the items would be manifested within the gloves to make it more realistic.. or it'll just have those electrical signals that gets the mind thinking that you are indeed touching something soft, hard, wet, hot or what not.. I guess erogames would definitely utilize that kind of gaming.. I mean, sensation and all without so much movement..(^_^")

Yeeahh, Ive thought about the space. Adventure games would definitely require more room but there are those games that only entails minimal movement like a shooting game perhaps? or a fight scene of some sort that the platform would indicate where the players are not allowed to cross (would mean a line near the actual wall). Something like that. Gloves that would give sensation, hmm, dont really use gloves because they just 'muffle' the actual feel of objects that Id touch. But if there was such a glove that you described, I wouldnt mind that.^_^

Hmm, guess it would be all in due time then. uhm, if they are paralyzed how could they feel the functions of the gloves in the first place?

All that we have is a playstation 2. We have the regular controllers to use with it but we bought new ones and they light up.

So I guess you take advantage of the controller lighting up when... your playing with no light on..?

I really like the DualShock 3 controllers. They seem to fit my hand nicely, they rumble, and they have the patented SIXAXIS control as well as being wireless. Plus they can also run and charge on USB. That means it can be used on the computer as well. This makes it the most useful of the game controllers out there. And don't tell me you can't hook it up to the computer, cause I've done it successfully. If you don't agree, tell me why.

Well, you are free to have your own opinion about the matter.. though, I was merely asking here in this discussion of what other ideas that developers can come up on game controllers that can be implemented to deliver another unique gaming experience. Anyway, with comparison with controllers alone, I do find Sony's PlayStation controllers very good, whether it be for casual gaming or aggressive ones that includes continuous button pressing. Uhmmm, sure.. I won't tell you that you can't hook the DualShock 3 up to a computer, it being obviously possible in the first place with the appropriate driver, or you made it work with other ways..? Anyway, there's no reason really for me to not agree.. add the fact that you stated that you've done it yourself. (^_^") Oh yeah, welcome to myLot, MetricJester (^_^ )

You also get cramps on your ring finger? I mostly get that on my left ring finger since I am mostly dexterous with my right hand so when it comes to fighting games, I often leave the shoulder buttons on the left vacant if I could reconfigure the controller in the game.. Hmm, a controller that adjusts along the gamer's convenience.. that does sound good. Enables true gaming potential from players whenever they are really comfortable with the controller. Makes me think that I find the X-Box controller more adept on first person shooting games.. and joy stick controllers at arcades really appropriate for fighthing games..

I see what you're getting at.... Improvements could be along the lines of ergonomics and hand size. Everybody has a different hand size. For instance my mother is always complaining that the Playstation controller is too big to her hands... What could be created is an expandable controller one that would fit better for smaller hands (like mom's and children's) at its smallest, but would expand to fit larger hands (I tend to get a cramp in my ring fingers when I put fingers on L1 L2 R1 and R2 at the same time.) It would be nice if it would adjust automatically, but it would be just as nice if it worked like a sleep number bed.

For me, If you used into that Controller, your handling would be great and perfect. I'm into Sony's Dual Shock series for 12 years and so far I have no problems with it. I better more like with traditional than the innovative ones these days.

So prefering better more on traditional-like controllers would imply that having good grasp on game control, by that you also play games that correspond to the type of controller that you prefer.. that's just a guess though.. thanks for sharing! (^_^ )
