I was told yesterday that I have been approved to go onto Long Term Disability for suspected Meniere's Disease. But I have mixed feelings now about this. I am glad I don't have to worry about going back to work until I am well again but now I feel really useless. I am embarrassed about staying home for this unseen Disease. I am getting an income from my employers insurance. But I feel so bad that I am not working. Is there anyone else here that has gone onto Long Term Disability? How do you feel about going onto this?

I know first hand about having to apply for long term disability. The part that hit me the worse is when I was repeatedily refused my C.P.P. disability. I need both knees replaced, I have asthma, Meniere's disease and have had heart attack. So if you have it coming take it, it's not like you're just lazy. I was told with my level of intelligence I should be able to get seditary employment. I was given Betahistine for meniere's, it did help some but what is giving me my best reasults is from the Nutters health food store. I take Maganese and Vertigiheel and what a difference. Good luck.

You talked about a handicaped sign. All you need to do is ask your doctor about it. I did and he immediately said yes that was a good idea for me. The doctor signed the paper right away, but of course everything comes with a price. I had to pay the doctor fee of 30.00.

Wow thanks for all that Grandmaof2 I really appreciate it. I will go see if I can find those to items at the herbal medicine shop here in town. I also will look into the handicap sign from the doctor when I see her Monday. Thank you so much!!

Well that is awful. The C.P.P. is hard to get onto I have heard. Mine is through the insurance I had at work. I can not believe with that amount of problems that they won't grant you the disability payments. The Maganese and Vertigiheel is for the Meniere's Disease is it? I will have to try that. Lazy is not something I have ever been called in my life except for maybe housework hehehe! But who really likes to do housework???? ICK!!

Thank you for your support. My payments are at least coming from my insurance from work that I did pay into for just this kind of an issue. Yes I have family that helps me out, a daughter and husband. I just feel bad that my teenage daughter has to have a disabled Mom at home. It must be embarrassing for her, although I have never asked her.

Yes well at least I am drawing this from the money I contributed to my insurance from work. This makes me feel a bit better. I do have a husband and daughter at home. I am most upset about the fact that my teenage daughter has to have a disabled Mom at home. It must be embarrassing for her although I have never asked her.

my mom has that-it sucks. she lost her balance so bad,she couldn't even stand.they gave her some kind of medication that corrected it-i'd have to ask her the name of it. i wouldn't feel bad about it.if you've been working, you've already paid in. so take the disability.

Being on Long Term Disability seems degrading at first, buI was 22 when I got injured and ended up on disability (i am now 45) Just because you get Disability, d does not mean you cannot work ever again, there are SO MANY things you can do on the side.. and you can do it as an Independant Contractor. You may just end up "displaced" and just possible need some training to work elsewhere. Voc Rehab can help you go to school even, and you get paid for it and they pay for you to go! I went to school and then a great opportunity came before me, I even was allowed to buy a health spa and run it while on disability... so just because you cannot return to your line of work does not mean you are worthless or helpless.... and SO WHAT if people cannot see anything "PHYSICAL" it is none of their business. BTW - DO NOT LET YOUR EMPLOYER or anyone else bog you down. You have a legitimate reason and they have NO RIGHT to hassle you! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING TO ANYBODY- IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!! YOU JUST SAY i AM ENTITLED TO CONFIDENTIALITY AND THAT IS ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID One thing, you may want to request is POOL THERAPY to help with gait training and balance. WELL THAT IS ALL i WILL SAY FOR NOW.. i JUST NOTICED THAT MY COMMENTS MAY N OT ANYTHING MUCH.. YOU ALREADY RESOLVED THIS i JUST SAW IT!MSG ME IF YOU LIKE- DONT MIND! BUT DO not even let people bog you down if you get a handicapped license plate- you are entitled to that too!

Be thankful you are able to draw a disability and sit back and ejoy the ride, you are in good company. Lots of people are disappointed they cannot work but that is what disability pensions are for so you do not become penniless. I am sure this disease did not rob you of all your talents, maybe you should take stock and find something that makes you feel you are contributing.

Thank you Mariposaman. That is what I try to do on my good days. Contribute whether it is visiting with seniors with my Mom in a Seniors home or just trying to keep the house clean. I am thankful I can draw the disability that is for sure.

Yes, I had severe asthma. I now have COPD. 'Permanent lung damage' It is really hard to cope with for me, as I was so fit and active. I loved my job and I worked really hard. It was also very depressing for me too, but I have got past that bit now. You just have to take every day as it comes to you. The money is nothing to. I used to earn a lot more when I worked. I am sorry you have your disease too. It is awful not been able to work. I would love a job from home on the internet. I wonder if they could maybe do this sometime , but earning real money. Somedays I am too ill though for the internet. Awk well. I hope you can find something to do as it is very boring at the start.

Thank you Blueberry. I hope this doesn't last for as long as what my grandmother has suffered with this same disease which is about 40 years now.

yup. i have applied for disability from the government as i have no cartlidge in my knees. i was hit by a car about 20 years ago and now its ganing up on me. i have trouble getting around and am in constant pain. i havent heard whether i will get it or not as of yet. i do feel guilty because i am not really contributing to the family's income (even though i was on sick leave and got ei).

Well thank goodness at least I have my work insurance paying me otherwise I don't know what we would do. I hope the are able to help you with your knees very soon. I know that can be very painful as I tore the cartilage in my knee skiing when I was a teenager. Thank goodness it healed, but it took 10 years. Funny but now my other knee can act up sometimes, not as bad as yours of course!!!

Hi Sketcher, I am so sorry to hear that you have been put on long term disablity, but don't worry yourself because it your health that comes first. I am on long time disablity as I cannot walk far because of my spine and I have severe asthma and blind in one eye and partial deaf. I used to do three different jobs just a few years ago and I did miss work at first but now I have got used to it and found lots of things to do, I have found a lot of friends now and I'm going out more ofeten then I used to, my life is so full and I learned to cope with my disablity, so you will too. Thanks Tamara. I am still quite busy as my family and friends make sure to keep me that way. They all know I am not a person that can just sit and do nothing. Even now I have the tv on, I am texting my daughter and working on many things here on the computer!! WOW that really sounds like a lot of confusion doesn't it?

no i have not, but this might not be such a bad thing. look at it like a vacation, take some time out for your self. learn to play instrument, or sew. write a story that always helps me when i am board. research this meniere's disease, and how you can cure it with natural medicine herbs. every thing is going to be ok, remember to keep busy. you are going to be fine what do doctors know anyways. get a dog they always keep you busy HANG IN THERE HUN

Funny that you would say that Galaxy999 because I just got out my Christmas knitting and quilting to keep myself busy. Good idea about the story writing. I might just give that a try. I have always wanted to see if I could write something.
