It is almost time to slave over the hot stove again for hours as the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season approaches unless you go out or order in or take shortcut and order a prepared meal already. So What type of turkey do you buy? Do you buy one with a pop up button that tells you when it is done? Do you use Reynold's oven bags to cook it in half the time? I always try to buy the ones with the pop up buttons and always use the Reynold's Oven Bags to cook my turkey it always comes out juicy, moist and tender when I do and it takes half the time to cook also which saves you time in the kitchen and money on electric. Have you ever deep fried a turkey? I haven't I have seen it done but never have wanted to try it. SO what are you having for Thanksgiving? Do you do Ham with bone in or out? I usually get one without the bones. Thanks.

Hey pergammano, I don't ever recall eating a duck before but I have heard it is mighty tasty. I never knew that about the hams thanks for the information. I don't know what a utility grade turkey is so I will have to search it on the net. Yeah all this talk of this yummy food is making my mouth water beats the tomato soup dinner I had for supper. Thanks for the response I appreciate it.

I've always had a turkey. The one with the pop up button. This year I'm considering doing roast chicken instead. I saw Suzanne Sommers roasting a turkey with rosemary, etc. and it looked so good. Maybe our tastebuds are changing, but the turkeys don't seem to taste the same anymore. I may opt out and get a turkey anyway. Especially if there are some really good sales. As for hams, my favorite is the spiral sliced with the bone in.

I like the pop up ones but not because of laziness, I am making and doing so many other things and buzzing around the kitchen like a busy bee so not having to work about the turkey is one less stress and a relief off my mind. I like to use the bag because I don't have to work about basting it or having a dry turkey because it helps the turkey stay moist. It sometimes takes me 2 days to all the food cooked even if it is just the two of us my husband expects the works, turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing(homemade) homemade rolls, potato salad, cole slaw, garden green beans, deviled eggs, and pies, cakes, and cheesecakes and probably something else i am forgetting. So I don't use them out of laziness just something that will save electricity and make less time consuming for me.

Wittby, yes the cleanup is way easier which is good thing since you will have one less thing soaking and scrubbing. BCMike I guess a utility turkey isn't so bad then. We don't normally eat the wings anyhow so it wouldn't be loss for us. Yeah..Who's for Thanksgiving a few weeks early?..lol

I wonder if by saying laziness, I am being too hard on myself. It really is stressful having that one more thing to keep track of with all the rest. Like you, I do a couple days worth of cooking - the family is spoiled and I enjoy doing it all, but it takes a toil sometimes. I may try the bags - I imagine less cleanup that way too?

My hubby always has to have the turkey as much as I like it is isn't something I want to have each time. I like the ham..He won't compromise so I don't either on it. Cause alot of turkey is wasted and none of the ham is. Thanks for the response.

i bought a part this year instead of the whole turkey. everybody but me is partial to white meat anyway. my ham does have a bone in it i like them better when they do. if i took a shortcut & ordered my meal my kids would run me out of town. lol i'm bragging now but it wouldn't be as good. i like the pop up button in the turkey. i usually wrap mine in foil but i have a bunch of oven bags i got at my mother's so i may use them for the ham & turkey. i have never fried a turkey but i have eaten them. they are good. have a good thanksgiving.

Thanks for your reponse. I sometimes wish I could order it because it is exhausting cooking so much food. But my husband like your kids would run me out of town.lol I love using oven bags and since I have started using them I use them every year since. Thanks, you have a good Thanksgiving also.

I usually feel so tired since i am the only one that does all the cooking that it is hard for me to get the umpf to enjoy the day especially when faced with all those dirty dishes left t wash..My family likes to eat and run..lol

I like Turkey Ham!!! I buy two of them, stick them facing eachother in a baking pan so they look like one loaf, then stick toothpics in them and top each one with a marachino cherry (and sometimes a circle of pineapple). I stick cloves in them too! Surround the loaf with vegetables and pop it in the oven to bake. While that's going, I get all the fixings going and it doesn't take long at all. It's easier to slice than a whole turkey too! :-D Happy Holidays!

well it is not the canadian thanksgiving so for us it is just another day, at my thanksgiving I like to have turkey or I go out for dinner and have seafood but I haven't done that in years.

My mom swears every year that the next Thanksgiving she was going to go out to eat so it will less hassle and dishes to wash but she never does..lol I think if it wasn't at the end of the month when she is broke then she would. Besides the all the cooking I do it is just another day really we don't do anything special besides the cooking. I think Family is what makes it special but if you don't have a close family then it is harder.
