My sister was reading the Harry Potter series and she was very excited to know what would be its ending so she skipped pages just to reach to the climax of the story. I told her not to do that because the essence of reading the book is to read everything on it and understand the whole story not just because your excited to finish the book. ^^, DO YOU DO THAT OFTEN TOO?

iF YOU DO THAT BETTER read the synopsis. I do read the whole book w/out skipping any pages, if you miss it seems you miss a scene on that story.

I think there's nothing wrong with skipping pages. It just stated that you interested in the book you're reading and and that you delve in the realms of the world your entering everytime you read and thats a good indication coz you're enjoying it. that's the essence of reading... for entertainment and learning! Besides, you can always go back to where you skipped in.

Hi zhaychel, I enjoy reading and I do my reading relaxingly daily. I usually read a few pages a day. I like reading sentence by sentence and page ... and I don't skip even a single page. If I someone has told me the the ending of the story I still enjoy reading the book in my way. During my younger days I would read very much faster from night till dawn if I really keen to know the ending of the story. posting and have a nice day.

I am terrible for doing this, I have always been a skipper from being little. I get so excited reading a book sometimes that I just skip forward to see what will happen and then go back and read all the skipped pages. The good thing with being a skipper for me is that I can read the book once and then go back and read it again another time a bit more slowly!

Unfortunately I have acquired a condition where I cannot really concentrate for any period of time so I can only read a few paragraphs at a time. I used to love to read and could spend hours reading a novel which I cannot do any longer. However I had acquired the skill of reading very fast so I did not have to skip any pages because I went through them very fast. I do not know if it would be called speed reading but it was certainly very fast with good retention. It is a learned skill.

I don't skip pages while reading. Your sister might be a lot excited in it! I too often have that feel. I better control my nerves, go on every pages and finally go to the end! It helps me to understand the complete story. All you need to do is control your nerves as just 50 pages, just 49 pages more....

I think it would mainly depend on the book. But harry potter definetely not .. it was too good to turn to see how it ended. However I was sorely tempted when I was reading Infected by Scott Sigler. It was a fantastic sci-fi book and at many times i just wanted to know how it ended.

I have to admit that if a book gets too exciting and I'm too curious about what happen next I would scan the book, reading it hurriedly, the intent simply to find out how it ends. However, once I finished do that, I will go back and read the book calmly now, enjoying all the parts. This does not happen to all books, but there are some books I do that, and I don't mind it. I'm like the kid who wants to know what she is getting for Christmas, but once I know what is in the box, I can now patiently wait before I open it.

Hi zhaychel, I don't skip pages. Really, reading the synopsis to decide whether to pick up a book is bad enough lol. I don't skip to the last page. In fact when I am near the end of the book, I usually read even slower to savor every last bit. If I meet boring parts, I might read faster and skim them. But I won't go right to the end to see how it ends. That's spoiling the story.

I do skip some pages but not because I'm too excited to read the climax, I do that when I find it too boring to read and seems that there's not much going on in it. I read a couple of Harry Potter books and not a single page I ever skip. Reading a good book, one does not find reason to skip a page of it.

It depends on the book. But with harry potter, I try not to skip the pages because based on experience, each page matters in harry potter. I usually have boring books where I would skip some page and would go back if there's a missing essence in the process.

If I'm REALLY bored with a book then I will skim through pages just to get to the 'meat' of the story. Otherwise I just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Not skip pages but I do sometimes skip paragraphs. Sometimes I know where it's going so I just skip a couple lines or a paragraph.

Yea, most of the time, we don't read word by word anyway. We read for the gist of what the author is trying to convey.

books undoubtedly can be sorted out under classifications to some extent ,whether skip being needed or not depends on which kind of book you are reading actually . as i myself is concerned ,regarding the books mainly face passtime such as novels / fiction /cartoon sets ...etc,it is unnecessary for me to get each episode read thoroughly ,whereas referring to the books such as textbooks or poem sets ,there is no more effective way to think out but to read them word by word.since no use skipping the pages even related words if you really wanna gain sth instructive from this book .

I have a habit of skipping pages in my book whenever I try to find the best reading part in a book.

I've never done this. I think if i were ever to do this i wouldnt really get a proper feel of what the books was about, not to mention id probably miss out on something important in those few pages.

Hello zhaychel, it's a good question and it brings to mind one book in particular that I read many years ago, but that I found in parts so boring and so irrelevant, that I was forced just to move on. It was the well-known Thomas Hardy novel - Tess of the d'Urbervilles. I know it's a classic, but there were sections of the book where Hardy was describing the natural surroundings and I was seriously asking myself, why were these passages at all necessary in this book. You find little of that nonsense in a Paulo Coelho novel, which is why his books are less than half the width of Hardy's novels. Happy "speed" reading! Umart

Most of the time I read the book start to finish, in order. I like mysteries and suspence stories. Once in a great while, a story makes me so tense that I can't stand it...then I'm apt to take a peek at the last page. I try so hard not to do that though, because it does change how you feel about the story.

Yes I do that because their some parts of the book are boring to read. So i go to the part that are more exciting and trilling like the last part of the book. I'm weird. Good Day.

I always read by rule. But it doesn't means this is a good habit. I think people should do everything just suit themselves. Sometimes I read and skip pages, but I still read from page one on later. Then I can exactly understand.
