Seat Belts Save Lives. Do You Wear Yours?

If you sometimes drive or ride - (like me) - without wearing your seat belt, think about the following. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in the U.S. for ages 4 through 34. Overall, car crashes are the eighth leading cause of death and the number one cause of head and spinal-cord injuries. More than 25 countries have some type of mandatory seat belt laws. When seat belts are used properly they decrease the number of seious injuries by 50 percent and reduce fatalities by 60 to 70 percent. Seventy-five percent of crash injuries and deaths occur within 25 miles of your home, so if you think you don't need to wear your seatbelt to go to the local store, think again. I make an effort to not start my car without putting on my seatbelt. Do you wear your seat belt all of the time? I am going to make an effort to remember.

I never understand someone like your's thinking. You know all this yet continue not to wear a seatbelt. Did you also know that without a seatbelt you are also a danger to other passengers in a crash as you can become a projectile as you flop around inside the car in a rollover unless you are ejected first to smash you head against the pavement. Do you fail to strap in your children too? I have always worn my seatbelt, there are too many crazy drivers out there and I want to protect myself however little extra chance I might have in a collision with one of the idiots that do not seem to comprehend that rules of the road apply to everyone including them.

I cannot understand why people fly by in their cars with babies on their laps,or dogs jumping all over the back seat. The small children would not stand a chance in the event of a crash,or contribute to killing someone else. When we give friends lifts we always ask them in they are belted up, and some say they are alright and have no intention of putting on a seat belt we say please belt up as you could kill us.We always make sure the proper seats are installed for the grandchildren and never overload the car, it has been proven that seat belts save lives so why on earth don't they use them, something to do with rebbeling against authority, what a silly excuse to kill themselves or someone else.

Yes, I wear my seatbelt all the time, even if we are driving for a really short distance. I was taught when I was young that we should put on the seatbelt, and I have just built this habit since I was young. Sometimes, my friends would comment, saying it's just a short distance, and I shouldn't need to put on the seatbelt. But I think seatbelt is for safety purpose, I'm not putting on the seatbelt so that I won't get caught by police. Slowly when you build the habit, you'll just automatically put on the seatbelt when you sit in the car.

I ensure that I wear my seatbelt everytime I ride a car. Whether if I'm the one driving or I'm just a passenger. This is to ensure my safety.

Yes I do. Its the law. Fortunately, my car would make a pretty annoying sound if I dont wear my seatbelt. And if I have a passenger, again, it beeps and my passenger would actually do it immediately because for sure he'll get annoyed with the sound too. But even before I have that car, I still do it. I have been used to doing it that when I get in the car, that's the first thing I would do.

wearing seat belt here is mandatory even for back passengers and there is a $100 on the spot fine if the police caught you in the car without wearing a seat belt... and yes, i do agree that it saves lives as well... that's why the police is so strict here because so many car accidents victims can be saved and have more chances to survive if they put on their seat belt... take care and have a nice day...

We have a law here, that is we must wear the seat belts when we sit in the front seat of the car. Otherwise we will be punished. I think it's a good law. After all, it's safer. I love China

I always wear my seatbelt, whether I am going a couple of blocks to the store or going 30 miles away to another town. I do this not for fear of getting a ticket, but because a seatbelt once saved my life when I just happened to be wearing it and I got in an accident less than a mile away from my house. I don't like to tempt fate.

I try to remember to wear my seat belt because I know people that have been given a ticket. My brother is one of the one that got a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. That is a ticket that can be avoided. Thank you for your response.

I do not wear a seat belt most of the time. I was in a car accident once, and if I had a seat belt on I would not have been able to get out the car. Seat belts can save your life as well as be responsible for taking your life. I know of some ladies who were driving late one night, and somehow their car went off the road into the river. The car sank and all of the women had on seat belts. Because of their panicking and not able to get out of the seat belts they drowned. I know this is just one incidence, but I am not a great fan of seat belts. Stricter driving laws can help prevent deaths by autos. If everyone followed the traffic laws, there would less accidents. Everyone is in such a hurry, they are not paying attention to what they should be doing, they are talking on cell phones etc. This is what takes lives. Our grandparents did not have seat belts, I guess back then, people were better drivers.

I always wear my seat belt. My car beeps anyway if it isn't on and it is annoying but i always wear it. You have to wear your seat belt here anyway but law and i don't want to have to pay like a 200 dollar fine for being to lazy and not putting it on but because i see car accidents all the time happening. I also avoid at least 5 accidents in a week and i don't drive that far away from my house either. It is because people are so careless running stop signs or being in the wrong lane and not a turning lane. I rather be safe then sorry! I hope everyone will buckle up because seat belts do save lives and i hope everyone is being smart about it.

Sometimes this is a problem of government's policy or people's self consciousness. When I drive outside, I often remember to wear my seat belt because of worried about being punished. The first thing that I go into the car is to have seat belt done.

I do agree that seat belt is very important but here in our country though it is mandatory but people here don't follow rules and regulation they only wear seat belt if there is a police. For me, I can't wear seat belt because our car don't have seat belt.

Not only will I never drive without it; I won't be a passenger without it. I won't have a passenger in my car without it, either. I've had two accidents in almost half-century I've been driving, and the seatbelts probably saved my life both times. Safety is absolutely first!

When I was a little guy, I was constantly reminded to wear my seat belt. It's like my natural thing now. Every time I get in a car, or a van, without thinking, I put it on. If I forget, there's this weird feeling that something's been left out.

I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt, even if I am in the backseat of someone else's vehicle or if I am just going a short distance. I feel naked without it. It is a habit for me to get in the car and put it on. It is a good habit to get into. I do have a friend who NEVER wears his and is POed at the government for making it a law to wear your seatbelt. His argument is "what about the people who survived accidents and weren't wearing their seat belts?" But that goes in one ear and out the other and I continue to wear my seatbelt because it seems as though your rate of survival is better WITH your seatbelt on.
