I like the idea that there is going to be a family living in the white house.

The last President to take office with small children in his family was John F. Kennedy. That was part of the romance and beauty of the era which people call "Camelot". My mother says that back then when they used to show film clips and stuff with John and Carolyn running around the White House lawns that people felt like they were America's children. Politicians say that th country is based upon the American family unit. So I feel that it is appropriate that there should be a young family in the home and at the helm of the United States, regardless of their color. I think that a lot of people feel like the Obama's are in it with them, trying to raise a family and grow together at the same time. They can identify with the family as our first family more readily when the President and his wife have kids around their own childrens age.

I completely agree. Its wonderful to finally have a family man in the white house. Yes, Bill Clinton had his daughter Chelsea there for awhile, but Obama has an entire Family. Maybe this will mean changes for single mothers, more programs for children of low income families, just change for children.

As Obama was raised by a single mother the possibility of him createing new programs to help single mothers, and children will probably be high on his list of things to do when he takes over the Oval Office. I hope so, I was raised by a single mother too.

Isn't that a wonderful thing? that is what the announcer said when he was elected, that for the first time since JFK, there would be young kids in the White House. Malia and Natasha (Sasha)Obama will be the first under twelve. Chelsea was twelve, thirteen years old when Bill Clinton got elected. Amy Carter was also in her teens when her father Jimmy Carter got into office.

I don't know if Amy Carter was as young as either of the Obama girls, but I know she wasn't an adult during his Presidency. And I don't think Chelsea Clinton was any older than twelve when Bill took office.

John Jr. Under Dad's Desk - This was always a favorite picture of mine. John Jr. playing under his father's desk in the White House
The Kennedy children did help to personalize the presidency for many Americans, especially the young and impressionable ones like I was then. They seemed like an ordinary family and helped to drive home the idea that you can grow up to be anything you want to be.

Great assesment! I think you have pointed out a good quality about the new President. People where sure behind Kennedy, and the nation had a more prosperous vibe from what Ive noticed. Obama having kids can only help. What a better looking future for USA. :)
