In 1918 on the elevanthhour of the eleventh day on the elevanth month The war to end all wars was over. in 1919 November 11 was set aside to commerate all the soldiers that gave their lives to insure an everlasting peace. It was called Armistice Day and was voted a federal holiday in 1938. As we all knoe another war followed the next year. In 1953 in Emporia, Kansas it war called Veteran's Day. 1971 President Nixon declared it a federal holiday on the second Monday in November. Military organization have. raise funds for their charitable activities by selling paper poppies made by disabled veterans. This bright red wildflower became a symbol of World War I after a bloody battle in a field of poppies called Flanders Field in Belgium. I want to thank all the past and presant soldiers and their families for the sacrifices that they have made to keep this country free.

I would like to take this time to thank them also. A special thank you goes out to my husband. He served 17 years in the U.S. Army.

My son was in the Army for 20 years. He didn't serve in any wars or police actions but was a drill Sargent during the first gulf war. He was training Soldiers how to stay alive. My father was a WWII veteran and an Uncle served in Korea during the police action in the 50s

Yes, a BIG thank you to all of those selfless men and women (and families) of the service men who served in the past, and those who serve our country today. My father served in the war, first in the Navy, and then in the Merchant Marines. I buy the paper poppies when I see one of them selling them. Each year my little kitchen Christmas tree is laden with all of those poppies I have bought over the years. I think of it as a reminder of our freedoms, and the price that was paid for them by those honorable men and women in the service. So, Thank YOU to all of our veterans on here!

My own dad served in WWII in the philipeans. They really are the heros. Now that you mention the poppies I was out most of the day yesterday and didn't see any one selling those popies. But at the same time Ididn't go to Wal-Mart where they usually sell them I like the idea of the tree. I'll have to keep that in mind for the future. Thanks for stopping by.

I would like to be united in your sayings. Thanks for all the past and presant soldiers and their families for the sacrifices that they have made to keep this country free. Although I do believe that wars are useless and compromise is better than wars. © ronaldinu 2008

Only sometime is it good to compromise. Sometimes you have to fight for what is right if the other party wants too much or doesn't want to compromise.
