Scamp - Here he is eating some cat nip

Eleven years ago some FOOL put the "cat" out for the night. Never mind said cat was only 6-8 weeks old. So, there was a baby out on a cold, rainy, Houston night. My friend Elaine heard the cries of the baby and her 2 cats were very upset so she went out to find the noise maker. There was a little black kitten, who ran to hide under a car until she managed to coax it out so she could bring it inside. Not wanting to take a chance the baby might have something dangerous to give to her cats, and to protect the kitten from the now, not so happy cats who only wanted their mom to shut the kitten up, not bring it inside! She put him in a carrier to take him to the vet the next morning. She learned he was a healthy kitten, and was only going to foster him until a new home could be found. Instead she fell in love with him and named him Scamp. A year later my friend died and I got her cats and Scamp is still with me. And I love him - a lot!

Thank you, agrant, I did love my friend, and her cats, and while I loved taking them, I'd still rather have my friend.

That was so nice of your friend to take the kitten in even though the other cats didn't like it at the time. I am sure the other cats learned to love it anyway after time. So sorry to hear about your friend but I guess she finally found a good home for Scamp as you have him now.

She had talked about sending the cats to another friend, but 1 - she couldn't take anymore cats, 2 - Scamp and Marco probably couldn't have tolerated being shipped between states (Texas to Pennsylvania) and 3 - I LOVED Scamp and Marco (and Nefret) so I wanted them.

As everyone has said, this is a wonderful story. I'm so glad that your friend had someone to love and care for her dear cats. She watches over you and them forever. Thank you so much for doing this. You gained another bunch of friends.

I hope she does. I know I still sometimes dream of her. I miss her very much, and I sometimes hug Scamp, even tho he hates it, just for her sake.

Thanks, Tamara. Yeah, Scamp is my lover boy, my scardy Scamp. He was quite the terrorist as a kitten, but he became afraid of strangers after about 4 months - we never did figure out why.

Just curious, because you are taking care of your friend cats. I have two dogs and one cat. Some people say that I have too many animals. I don't think so. It is very personal.

Yep, he looks like your pye. We actually have kind of a hard time telling him apart from Nefer, until you touch them. Nef's fur is course while Scamp is like satin or velvet - he's a JOY to pet his pelt! None of the other 3 black cats have quite such a nice coat. Tuti's is close, but she licks herself bald and sore in places.

My Pyewacket's fur is satin smooth too. And he just LOVES attention, real ham he is. He can't stand it when I pay attention to my other kitty, Kissy

Wow! That's some story! Good enough for a newspaper to print, I bet! I'm so happy that you "found" your kitten again! Okay, so he's not a kitten anymore, but you got him back after all this time! That's incredible! You really should tell this story to your local newspaper. They like to print happy stories, too, and I bet they'd LOVE your story! It's not often when we lose something, whether it be a kitten or anything else, only to get it back 11 years later! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us, ElicBxn! It has lifted my heart and made me smile. What a great gift to share with us! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!!!
