Annoying Voice Mail Greetings.

Cell Phone - Greetings

You know what I really hate is these long voice mail greetings. My daughter has this long greetings then she has this music you have to listen too. Then there is the option you have to choice from. It takes almost 5- to 6 minutes before you hear the beep for you to start giving your message. I just politely hang up the phone. I refuse to waste all this time when she can clearly say Her name and ask to leave a message please, that is all it takes people. What's with all this other stuff? Do you wait for them to finish all this gibberish and leave a message? Do you hang up and call back later?

I'm truly with you I just hang up and call back. I'm getting to really hate the whole telephone system idea. Doesn't matter who you call anymore all you get is Press one for ----- Press two for ---- Press three for ----- Then you press your number and you hear, Thank you wait while I try that extension, So it rings a few times and it says I am sorry we can not take your call at this time, leave your name and number a brief message and we'll return your call. Grrrrrrrr.

All that time wasted, when they could have told you that in the beginning.

That would be incredibly annoying to me. I would not even call if I knew that would be my reception. I would certainly hand up. There ought to be a direct line for moms or soething like that. Five or six minutes in incredibly too long.

When voice mail first became popular lots of people used to make up these long messages. Thank heavens now it is not all the rage anymore. I am with you on this in particular when I am calling long distance. I just hang up and call back later. Fortunately also most people have e-mail so sometimes I send an e-mail instead of leaving a voice mail.

You know I think with some people, their voice mail is the one thing they can totally dictate. Especially in young people. So they try and be as creative as they can, even if it annoys everyone else. I try and leave a message when it comes to this, but I have just tried calling again later. :)

I know what you mean. It's bad enough when your calling a customer service line but when its your family and friends I think it's awful. Most times the message i leave is shorter than the greeting. It all depends on how important what i'm calling about is on if i actually leave a message Or just hang up. My greeting is straight to the point. I think it's more polite that way. Who has the time to hang around a long time to leave a quick message?

I hang up as soon as I have waited a sufficient time to leave the message.. I don't like a long message, just tell me your name and then prompt me to leave a message, that works for me.. If I do call someone and have to wait that long, I don't call them again.. What if there was an emergency?? that would be bad to have to wait so long to give an emergency message..

It depends on who I am talking to, if it is an emergency I will leave a message, if not I just hang up and let them see they missed a call from me or that I call on their caller ids. It kind of irritates me to listen to all of that plus several choices that certain cell companies have.

I hate long messages. It costs me money. I hang up. If it's a friend I tell them their message is way to long. My message is: You have reached Business Name I can't answer right now, please leave a message. It can't be much shorter. My message is as short as possible and still gives the caller all the relevant data. I use my home phone for business and I have my message in two languages, so I want it really short and professional. My friends all know that I use my home phone for business, so they expect the outgoing message to be bilingual. For those of you who don't know. I'm an American living in Israel. I have friends and clients who come from from all over the world and those who don't speak Hebrew speak some English.

Well, a lot of times if it a long message unless it is something urgent I need to let the person know, or really need them to call me back right away, I will usually hang up and try again later as well. Personally I have never seen the need for long messages like this, and feel that if you leave one on your phone it should be short and sweet as well. Have you tried talking with your daughter about how this bothers you?

Hi Chevee, Oh, how I hate these things, yes I just hang up and call later, but most time they are in so I don't have a problem that much. Tamara

You can just push # and it will skip the greeting and beep. I do it all the time cuz I also hate to wait through it.

Hi chevee! I agree with you! I have a simple voice mail greeting. It simply has my name and tells you to leave a message. I have no patience for those long and cute messages with music and all that other stuff. It is not necessary and if I am on my cell phone I certainly don't want to be bothered. If I am in a hurry I will hang up and try again later. If I really need to leave a message I will. But, I find it really annoying to leave a message on people's phones who have very long greetings. There is no reason for it!

I don't like talking to answering machines. I usually just hang up when the answering machine picks up. If it's not important, I will call back. I'm with you, I don't like those long messages either.
