Did you know a fish could smile?

Sheepshead - Believe it or not, this fish can actually smile, lol.

I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but hubby recently caught a sheepshead which has teeth unlike any other fish I have ever seen. Many of the saltwater fish we have caught have teeth which can be very sharp and pointed so you always want to be careful when taking them off the hook, but this one has teeth that look like a childs. Needless to say, I asked hubby to make this one smile so I could take a picture of it. Because I wanted to let you see the fish smile, I've attached the front view but if you're interested in seeing what the fish itself looks like, here's a link to the side view. http://apaidreader.googlepages.com/Sheepsheadsideview.jpg I must admit that I was a little nervous about eating a fish that could smile, but it was rather good and tasted a little like crappie.

Hmmm... interesting... nice fish, though. As for the crappie, don't you wish they were called something else?

LOL, makes you wonder why the person that named it decided to call it that.

Okay, this is one I am going to have to see. I do not want to eat it if it smiles at me, but this is sounding so like some kind of science fiction, like the cow that offers parts of itself in the Douglas Adams Hitchhikers books. A little bit surreal to me.

Hubby is always laughing about the pictures I take but this was one that I really couldn't resist. As you'll notice, I made him hold it.

What a great pic you sent in of the fish - I've never seen a fish with teeth like that - they are just like a child's teeth! I must agree with Barbara about the names some of our fish get - who makes them up? Can you imagine someone enjoying a piece of fish, saying "Mmmm, I enjoyed that crappie!" !!

LOL. Our family gets to eat alot of crappie and believe it or not, most meals do end with us saying "Mmmm, good crappie." I definately think the name could have been better, but after looking it up on Wikipedia, I have to admit that the common name is alot easier to pronounce than the official name of Pomoxis. If someone said they caught a Pomoxis, I probably wouldn't even know what they were talking about.
