Fashion is my passion! Well it's not really but it DOES rhyme.....

Have you ever pretended to be very interested or an expert in something that you really have no idea about whatsoever? It might be to fit in to a certain group conversation; or to impress someone; or to improve your chances at a job interview...... Whatever the situation is, you end up sounding like an afficionado of something that you really have no idea about at all!Have you been caught out though? I have! I spent about 30 minutes talking about music composition with a man at an art gallery opening and was trying to sound like an absolute expert on all areas of music from classical to pop...... Imagine my surprise when an announcement came over the microphone aslking the man I was speaking with to come on stage. He was a famous composer! I went from 5 foot 9 to around 1 foot tall in about 2 seconds! lol. The same evening (yep, I was on a friggin' roll that night I tell ya!) I was having yet another deep and meaningful conversation with another man about a particular painting we were standing in front of. This time I was an art expert see, so I was discussing the lines and the shadowing and how it was reminscent of the scream and all that crap...... Well of course it ended up that the guy I was talking to was the one that painted the damn thing! God help me but I was destined to completely destroy my credibility THAT night I can tell you! What about you? Any similar scenarios and have you been caught out also? See, I was panda spanking before I even knew what it was!

Certainly you were but the fact that I wasn't, demands a little more time that you guys. I better go panda spanking before I get help up in something non-panda spanking sort or whatever. If that makes sense.

Hi James I am sure you were doing a lot of those spanking in those days as well! lol... As for me, I have never been there. Being a very shy person, I have always tried to hide from the much deserved accolades and instead of basking in the glory have always kind of shied(?) off from it. So, I would not even even dream of situations like that to happen in life. Having said this, my boss who thinks that I am an authority in books would refer to my knowledge as a magnanimous one and this is quite embarrassing at times. I used to be a voracious reader but that by no means gives me the authority over certain genres! And guess what I have had those sleepless nights of googling, torrenting and then reading through some chapters of some infamously book and that too in the apprehension that i might need to refer to some lines during next day's discussions! But, in a way I am thankful for this has made me certainly widely read, the thing which I like the most.

Heya mimpi! The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that I actually started panda spanking at a very young age. I just wasn't aware of it at the time! lol. Given the situation you have shared regarding your boss and your perceived book smarts then it seems that are a closet spanker as well, just needing to acknowledge your proverbial wings so you too may soar! Ah, the joys of committing ourselves verbally to a certain brancj of knowledge and then having to cram like crazy to live up to the expectations! I too have learned many topics by doing the very same thing so you're not alone there either. Thanks for the response mimpi and let the panda spanker within you free! We all know you want to and if you look deep enough, you will see it too.

I sure need to come out of the closet. Specially when I makeup my mind to do something which I think is good in the long run but not so advisable if you think in terms of short term. And I am certainly book smart and a mess otherwise.

Big mouth me advising a friend in college as how not to have stage fear and having confidence while debating and public speaking. There were some of the seniors watching me and the next thing i knew i was on the team for Jam session impromtu in an inter collegiate festival. You felt a foot tall James, I was under the ground, numb and speechless. And that one minute of the Jam Session seemed to last an hour. BTW Are you now an authority in music composition and art. Being invited as a chief guest with the red carpet and all that ? And where are the rest of panda spankers? Hibernating ?

Well good afternoon to you Sir! Well it does seem alok that you not only managed to dig yourself out of the hole you so unceremoniously placed yourself in; but you filled it, cemented over it and then placed a sign to commemorate the occasion! if you're gonna make an impression then there is not point holding back right? lol. I am a quasi-authority in both music and art I feel, yes! hahaha. At least from a theory perspective so I don't bury myself like before! As for the rest of the Panda Spankers? Who knows where the heck they are?? Hibernating is probably an accyrate assumption though. Something about the weekend or maybe there's a bamboo furniture sale on somewhere? Thanks for the response and have a glorious weekend of fun and frivolity!

Well why did you stop only at the posting of sign there. I visit once in a while with flowers as i am doing now. After this discussion its going to be gold plated. My weekend's hardly filled with exciting activities . Morese imagining them i suppose. . The bamboo sale is always on James, only one needs to hunt for it. It's snacking time for me. I seem to be just belching off all the various "chaat" that went down my belly a little while ago.

Panda Spanking Diploma - Awarded to riyasam for achieving Top 10 status as a Panda Spanker!
The topic ain't about fashion riya! lol. I haven't seen that movie before, no. I think it is a common trait for many women to wish to be the best dressed person in a room and this is probably why they look each other up and down when they first meet, just to check each other out to see who wins! Thanks for responding riyasim and congratulations for reaching the Top 10 in Panda Spanking! Your Diploma is below:

Wellll let me think! I've raised 5 children. Yes, at some point in my life I'm sure I had to sound like an aficionado to get them to listen. . .and yeah! by the time they were in the second grade they were calling out on everything! Ain't kids grand? Now with a group of adults, I'm usually plastered against the wall hoping nobody will notice me.

Well hello there young lady! I once raised 10 chidlren but the pile ended up way too high and it toppled over..... Even a wallflower has to blossom eventually too, so time to get away from that wall and pollinate their minds with a bit of discipline I reckon! Thanks for the response and make sure you share the story of the whuppin' when you finally remove yourself from that wall beaddoodler!

I guess fashion does rhyme with passion. Are you a poet by any chance? I read your funny episodes with great interest. I guess every one of us do something silly some time or another. © ronaldinu 2008

I'm a POET and didn't even KNOWIT! Nah, no chance of me being that artistic I'm afraid ronaldinu! lol. We all do silly things, yes; but the key thing of course is to be able to laugh about them! Thanks for the response.

By the way, afterall, I know what panda spanking is! I had asked some Americans who happened to know nothing about that either! Later, I asked a quesiton in some forum, where some people gave me the answer. Thus, your dicussion was kind of profound. Acutally, I am very ignorant! Sorry about that. Well, I lost my topic. Have a great day anyway.

lol. I am happy to hear that you now realize what panda spanking is, hiddenwing! There are descriptions of what this interest category is about in a few of the other discussions in the group as well. So now you know then and if you ever wish to be a little crazy once in a while then bring it on over here. lol. Thanks for the response.

No I have never had this problem. Being a girl no one ever listened to my ideas on anything anyway. I was just supposed to listen and nod my head, agree with everything silently and keep my mouth shut. So I have never had a chance to prove my knowledge let alone pretend to be someone I wasn't. *sigh*

So in a sense you were pretending to ne someone who gave a sh!t sharra! You have plenty of time left to become a faux expert on SOMETHING so don't despair. Next time you are at any event, be the resident expert on panda spanking I reckon. I defy anyone to question your credibility on that one.

Good point. I suppose I was pretending to be someone who was pretending she gave a sh*t. Hmm this is getting complicated. The trouble is that I love to pretend that men know nothing because they have ignored me for so long. What am I saying? I am an expert on everything aren't I. I am sure I read that book.

LOL. that was funny. I can't remember something like that happened to me, not yet at least. I guess, I don't know that much. hehehe I remember one thing though, a Philippine actor/singer/composer went to a music store in the U.S and run into Elijah Wood from Lord of the Rings, he called him Harry Potter! And Elijah looked at him with those round eyes in disbelief. I heard it on t.v and thought it was funny. heheheheh

We shall place emphasis on the "not yet" part sheena! lol. Give it time and for sure you will create your own little embarrassing episode just like the rest of us one day. It's like a universal law or something! The Philippines actor making that mistake is a classic! I have heard other actors in interviews talk about fans thinking they were someone else or had starred in some movie that wasn't them, so I reckon this would happen quite a bit. Thanks for the response.
