I have fixed some errors in our computers here at home a couple of times, usually just to delete a virus or completely reformatting the computer and re-installing the operating system. It would be best that reformatting would be done as the last resort on trying to solve the problem since doing it often would deteriorate the hard disk of the computer.. of course, doing it too much would cause that so, if reformatting isn't as always as usual, I guess its alright. I try not to go the technicians anymore if I could handle the problem by myself but, if its a bit too much of a challenge for what I know, I would just bring it to them and see how they would solve it. Watching them do it guarantees me that they are indeed working on it and helps me learn more about computers.

Hi, well done to you, it's a good feeling when you fix your own pc. I learnt about how to fix my own through breaking my first one and taking it into be repaired which cost me a lot of money, I now realise how much of that payment was for their knowledge and not for much work. I've learnt so much about pc's and the internet in the past 12 mnths I surprise myself..lol

I can take it apart and put it back together again but I do not want to as this tends to take a lot of time. I used to swap parts in my old computers and this is good experience. Do not start on your brand new $1000 computer. There should be enough old computers around to practice on.

I learned about fixing computers out of curiosity and interest. So far I have never needed the services of so-called computer technicians (yes, they have paper qualifications). In fact there were times when I had to undo the mistakes made by other technicians on several of my friends' computers. I am not an expert in everything but how many technicians knew how to reinstall windows 95, 98, and ME on themselves, meaning not losing any previous settings or data? Congratulations to you for your success. Just remember self-learning or self-teaching has its drawbacks. May you flow smoothly with the ions.

Hi alleroid...First of all, congratulations because you manage to fix your computer by yourself. I also have fix my laptop sometimes, I know how format computer. Sometime if my friends have a problem with their laptop, I will help them to fix it. But my knowledges is not very wide, that one day my laptop cannot be opened. I already tried to format it but it cannot complete as some files are missing. I have found in the internet how to solve it which is by copy the missing file from other laptop and save it in my laptop. But after some hard time I still couldn't find that files. Finally I send my laptop to computer shop to be fix. That is very funny you know as I always fix others laptop but I myself can't fix my laptop. =p

I paid for the AVG antivirus/spyware package and it just blocked something for me while I was here on MyLot! Yaye! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure you know. If my computer ever does need to be repaired, I'll just take it to my friend's husband, who is a computer geek. Most of my problems, I just tell him about and he tells me how to fix them but if it ever got really bad, I'd take it to him. Happy MyLotting!

I can help you.At firs arrange windows cd.Then restart your pc.while restarting then go to booting system by continuous pressing delete key(or F2 and DELETE key together). Then select your first device is CD ROM.Then save and exit. After windows is started then put the windows cd in that particular CD ROM which you have selected earlier. Then again restart your pc.When the line display "" Boot from CD..." then press any key and it will start and go ahead by following the instructions.Select the C drive for formatting(Generally windows is stored into C drive). After formatting you have to install motherboard Cd and other needed softwares as well........Best Of Luck................

I have done all the things you have said. I disassemble and assemble it back to it's place. I have upgraded my computer last year and now it seems that I need to upgrade it some time to catch up with the latest or newer technology on computers. I had to reformat my computer several times before because my operating system is not running due to Trojan viruses and only way to do it is to reformat it to make sure it's clean. Good thing I always back up my files so no worry even if I have to reformat my computer. So far there is no major repair in my computer and hope though I think I can repair it if it had one.

I dont know if I have fixed it or broken it. I just tried to open the cabinet and reconnected every cable after I dusted them off. I dont know how it worked. still I managed to get over the problem. and lo behold my PC was working. Actually it might have been an issue with my power cable connection. So I was having restarts whenever I switched on the power botton. But touchwood my PC is OK now.

You know what alleroid16, somethings are learnt the hard way and I learnt fixing my pc in a very hard way. Being a very mischievous kid, I always like tweaking my pc. All my system and hidden files are always visible and I'm always suspicious that a virus might have infected them. So if i find any file that I hadn't seen there before, I delete it. thus once i deleted a system file and had to make a bootable disk. That was my first adventure which was followed by many... Techies are foolish people where I live. The last time i called a techie home when my pc was infected, he told me that a virus cannot enter my pc through a usb port, and he wasn't ready to listen at all and he formatted my C drive. And that was the last straw. From then, I've never called a techie again. They are stupid creatures who's job is to end their visit as soon as they can. And the only thing that they can do is reinstall the OS. Well These are techies where I live, well they aren't technicians at all. They are just kids who are taught how to reinstall the OS. Happy mylotting and avoid techies......

I have worked with computers for about 10 years now.. Started out with just basic knowledge and built my way up. Mostly everything I have learned software wise has been from messing around with the programs. Hardware wise I was semi taught and sooner or later just caught on. I've upgrade my last computer that was giving to me by an uncle which ended up being a nightmare (but it worked) Now that I know more it would be easier to upgrade next time around.

Yeah, I fix my computer all the time. Anything can really make your PC run slow. Most Vista machines run slow all the time for no apparent reason. Usually it's either that you have too many processes running at one time, especially at startup, or you have a lot of malware running on your system, or you have a virus/trojan horse/worm that is causing your PC to run slow. Reformatting your PC is usually a last effort when all of your other options have been exhausted.

good for you. and youre right that vista is kinda slow that's why im using xp. in my research, if youre using vista you should have a high RAM. happy mylotting! :)
