My cat needs to see a vet because hes been exhibiting some strange and unsettling symptoms that concern me, I called the vet and told them of my cats symptoms and they then told me I should bring him in and then I asked the vet how much my cats visit and possible treatment would cost, and they said it will cost me over $500 dollars I thought to myself WHAT! thats crazy, I dont have that kind of money and now I just dont know what to do its just not fair I even ask the vet if they had some kind of payment plan and they said no so now I will have to hold off taking my cat to the vet until I figure out how to earn the money, I wish there was a decent charity hospital around but apparently there isn't unless I over looked something, do any of you know of any way I could get some help with my cats vet bill or a if theres a charity service that helps people, I really need some advice.

Hey apples99 I am sorry to hear that your cat is not well, what exactly seems to be the problem? Baring in mind that you have not long moved house and maybe this might have something to do with it and the problem might settle down. I would also phone another vet and see what they say.

Oh I see so it is not a matter of him spraying his territory or anything! You should ask the vet if it is somthing that will eventually clear up by itself. I hope so.

I see this discussion was posted 4 days ago, but I hope I can still help. I'm not a vet, but I've been poor and owned a pet before, so these are my suggestions: $500 sounds ridiculously high for a simple vet visit for a cat - have you tried calling a different vet? You really should. I own a rabbit, which is expensive because she's considered an "exotic animal" and has to go to a special exotic animals vet, and a vet visit for her only costs around $50 (not including treatment). When she had to have surgery, it cost around $200. He may have been telling you how much it could cost if the cat had to have surgery, but how is the vet going to know if the cat needs something major like surgery until he looks at the cat? Look up a few local vets in the Yellow Pages, call them, and see what they have to say about the cost of an appointment or treatment. Ask how much the appointment alone costs. Take him in, have the vet look at him and THEN recommend treatment and tell you how much it will cost, and go from there. If you're lucky, it might be a case where he just needs a bottle of pills. If you still can't afford to make a vet appointment, or you can't afford treatment, go here: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/what_you_can_do_if_you_are_having_trouble_affording_veterinary_care.html They have a LOT of good suggestions there.

I wish you were here, I'd take the cat to my (cheap) vet and see what they say. It might cost $100 if they could help.

Pee problems doesn't usually cost $500. It's usually treatable with medicine. Call a different vet.

Oh wow. What's wrong with your cat? What symptoms is your cat showing? $500 is a lot of money. Gosh! I dont think I could afford that as well. I hope you find a hospital that would cost cheaper.

Hi there sher1979. here are some of my cats symptoms, my cat is urinating a lot around 3 times in a row my cat eats his food but he seems to be losing a little wight. he stays indoors and hes neutered, I rescued him a year ago, and he is now 2 and half years old, he's still very energetic. but I can tell that somthing isn't right, I called the vet and I told them of my cats symptoms and they said it sounds like my cat might have a urinary tract infection or a kidney stone but, they dont know for sure until I bring him in to the vet, and they also said that his possible treatment will most likely be $500 dollars and I just dont know what I'm gonna do I dont know where to get that kind of money.
