I have often heard the statement it is better to give than receive. I often wondered if that was true, years ago I read an Ann Landers article (or was it Dear Abby?) anyway In it a lady asked how to tell her family she didn't want to receive gifts because of this saying and Ann replied that if you refuse to receive gifts you deny others the joy of giving. Do you think this is true? I know I do

There has to be a balance between both or one of them will end.

true, people tend to give gifts to those who give gifts to them. kind of strange isn't it

but to me it is not appropraite... that proverb means we should not be greedy for ourselve but should help and serve others. i dont find any thing bad in accepting any gift, it is a way of expressing others happiness..

I definately think it is better to give then to receive - I have a hard time accepting gifts myself.

Giving really is much better. If being given of something then it is good to receive as well.
