Is Watching Repeats Wasting Time?

Do you ever find you are watching a tv program or film and you have seen it before, sometimes once, sometimes twice, sometimes many times before? But because you enjoy the programme or film so much that you don't worry if you know it inside out and know how it ends. Do you think that watching a film for example over and over and over again is a waste of time or is a film still as enjoyable, as entertaining and as watchable no matter how many times you see it? Is there a film that you can see more than five times? It occured to me when I watched Star Wars Revenge of The Sith for the fifth time that I know the plot inside out and I know what happens and yet I still love every minute of it and I still feel sad when Anakin goes over to the dark side, that young little blond lad suddenly turning into the most hated man or machine in space! Yes, I know it's a story but it still makes me sad! Surely seeing a film once is enough, why do you watch repeats?

Depends on how you define "waste of time" These days, most that is on TV is a waste of time to watch it in the first place! I can watch reruns of I Love Lucy over and over - I can recite the dialog along with them, cause I have watched them so much - have the complete box set and watch whenever I want to ...why - comedy, hilarity and plain simply fun! THey don't make comedys like they used to . These days it is all about s*x and divorce and who's with who and doing what with who and then they try to make that funny. Might work the first time around, but once is usually enough. But I Love Lucy is not hte longest running show in TV history because it is not funny! IT is classic comedy and if you want to have fun, relax, enjoy time out - you need something funny. Andy Griffith show is the same why - just plain funniness - nothing serious, no killings, murders, s*x, you don't have to "work" to keep up with it or remember what happened last time to make sense of this time...just enjoy a funny 20 minutes. the movie Long Long Trailer - with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz - not only can all that happen for real (I have livedin a 35 ft travel trailer - yes it can happen!) but just the comedy is so amazing I watch it over and over. And when I am depressed, I turn this movie on and next thing I know I am laughing and calm from the depression and get up and go again. I don't call that a "waste of time".

Laughter is indeed the best medicine my friend, we have One Foot In The Grave in the UK which I watch and has me in stitches no matter how many times I watch it. I also love Golden Girls and never get fed up with watching them over and over again and they have tears rolling down my face everytime!

Yes I watch movies not only once but to a maximum of 3 times especially if the film appeals to my taste. I've watch The Italian Job 4 times I think because I really like the story. My husband does the same with his all time favorite Star Wars like you. I've watched Titanic twice, Transformers 3x and the other movies I like twice. For me it's not a waste of time if you watch movies over and over again because you are enjoying so why care? Besides enjoyment can't be measured by putting limitations to yourself, but by being free to do the things that will satisfy you. So happy watching over and over again!

Sometimes I find you can even pick up something from the film that you have missed the first or second time around! Some films are complicated and you need to watch them twice to fully understand them, for example the Saw films, they are highly confusing but when you have seen them twice or sometimes three times you start to understand the complex storyline behind it!

Oh my dear wolfie, I have seen Titanic over 100 times I can say the lines word for word. lol And yet i never grow tired of watching it again. In fact i just got done watchig it a few minutes ago. I have it downloaded on my computer. it is my all time favorite movie and i love the ending. So no watching them again is not a waste of time if you enjoy them that much.

That is the only film that makes me cry Princess! Especially when Leonardo sorry Jack drowns, it's like where's the mansize tissues, quickly! I love the music to it, so haunting, so enchanting and so terribly sad, I love Celine Dion but not as much as Leonardo LOL!

I don't really do repeats because I feel like, most of the time, they are a waste of my time. But, if it's a movie, or episode, that I haven't seen in a while, I don't mind so much. It can be enjoyable waiting for your favorite part, or line, to come up in the movie You may catch something that you missed before. And, sometimes who you're watching the movie with can make it a whole different experience. You can also have an emotional connection to the show/plot ... it can be comforting to you at the moment. I know that I have watched the Color Purple many times.

I often wonder how kids can watch their favorite shows so many times. Reciting the lines as they watch.

I love watching some repeats! I like the comedy repeats like "Only Fools and Horses". This is a terrific British comedy and a lot of the different episodes keep on coming back every year at Christmas. I do get irritated with some repeats and I just keep on switching the channel in order to avoid them. I never get bored with the Star Wars films, I love them so much and I could go on watching them forever! I'm a bit spaced out you see! Andrew

Tonight I ordered off Ebay Star Wars Episode 1 and 2 because those are the only two I haven't got on DVD! I had them on video but not yet on DVD. I wish they would release Golden Girls Series 4 and 5 on Region 2, because it's American only region 1 is available STILL!!!! Grrrrrrrr I have Series 1-3 but want 4 an 5!

No, I donb't think it's a waste of time. Unless, you're doing it on purpose to put off doing something that is more important. There's a ton of movies I can watch more than one time. Just the same, there's some movies I can't watch all the way the first time. I also think some films need to be watched more than once, because so much is going on.

Good point about whether it's a source of procrastination. But then, I'm a multi-tasker. I cannot SIT and watch anything without doing something else at the same time. Otherwise I'll fall asleep.

I go through phases of that, too. However, I think it has to do with my stress level and my responibilites at that time. I.e. if I have nothing to do, I can watch like three movies in a row. If I have something due soon or am stressed, I tend to fall asleep. I think our mind has ways of telling our body things.

As you know I fall asleep through films so I have to watch them more than once before I see the complete thing. I love to watch the old Tommy Steele musicals and it's more than Mr Crocs life is worth to try and stop me no matter how many times I've seen them. If you enjoy something then it's never a waste of time doing it.

The only reason people watch repeats on television... is because there is nothing better to watch. And people watch television... either to relax... or because they have nothing better to do. So to answer your question... no it is not a waste of time to watch repeats. And if you watch them... it is because they are worth watching. There are quite a few films and TV series that I did watch more than 5 times. But these days... I am getting so many movies on DVDs that I don't have the time to watch repeats. lol

If I enjoy a movie or a television program s lot, and there is nothing else on television worth watching, or nothing to do then I watch repeats. I think sometimes the film or show touches us in some way and we watch it again to reach that part of ourselves that it touched. Obviously there is something that draws you to the movie and you want to see it again and again. There are several movies I always enjoy seeing again (more that I don't ever care if I see them again). I think this happens to most of us.

I love to watch a favorite show or movie over and over again because I usually see something that I may have missed the first time I watched it. When I was younger I never liked watching reruns or repeats, but, now I see that there is a very valid reason to do so. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Moonraker was the first James Bond film I ever went to see at the cinema on a Saturday afternoon with my brothers. It would be the first James Bond film I would think of if ever anyone was to say, 'think of a James Bond film'!

The only dvd's that I purchase are one that I know I will watch over again. Irent all my movies 1st, and then I decide if I like it to the point that I wiil buy it. There's nothing wrongwith watching repeats. If it's a show that you like, you will watch it over again. My favorite show was Married with Chidren. I have seen every episode, and I have the collection on dvd, because it doesn't come on anymore. Some shows and movies are like that. I wouldn't call it a waste of time. i just recently started following Tv shows such as The King Of Queens, Everybody Loves raymond, and 2 and a half men. I think I pretty much have seen every episode of King Of Queens, but I watch it everyday. When it comes to regulart tv it's different. I feel that you have no choice to watch the same shows everyday since to me, there really isn't anything worth watching anyway. I'm sick of all the court tv shows. And I don't know why the hell Jerry Springer is still on. When it comes to movies I do like to see something new. Out of all the dvd's i own, I don't even watch them regularly. But I know they are there if I ever truly get bored. I think we are all like this. when it's a show that you like, you watch it all the time, even if it's an episode or movie that you've seen before.

I find myself doing this a lot. I personally don't think it is a waste of time. One reason I like to watch reruns is because it may have been a while since I have seen it the first time. Another reason to watch something again is to make sure you didn't miss anything the first time. Especially a mystery or something that has a problem that needs to be solved and their are clues during the show or movie. I can watch Ever After as many times as I want to. Also, Count of Monte Cristo is the best!!!

They made a few versions of Count of Monte Cristo didn't they? Is that the one with Guy Pearce in it, the newer one I think. And yes you can miss a lot watching a film first time around. Welcome to Mylot!

Yes, the newer one with Guy Pearce. I have seen other versions of Count of Monte Cristo but the newer one has been the best. I have also read the book which is good by itself! Thanks!

It depends on the show, really. If it's a CSI or a Law & Order I usually watch it again. Half the time I've forgotten the ending anyway. Also, if there is something else on that I haven't seen, then I may NOT watch the rerun. Usually I watch reruns when there is nothing else to watch. If it's not something I want to watch again I will turn off the television. As for movies, if I love the movie and I haven't got something better to do then I don't mind watching it again. But it has to be an appealing movie like a musical (Sound of Music, Grease, High School Musical) or comedy. Something that entertains me. Sometimes I may be on the computer and the kids will put a movie on and I think, "Oh, I don't want to see this" but then find myself glued to the tv. It really just depends on the show.

Oh, and let me add there can be some benefits to watching shows over and over again. For example, Joyce Meyer who is a spiritual teacher. I watch her online every day. I have seen the reruns but she is teaching lessons that one can certainly benefit from when watching it again.

I alway watch a tv program or film over and over again. It isn't a waste of time. Each time i watch that film or program, i can experience different feelings. I used to watch Titanic for about 6 times. And i cried each time. We watch a tv program or a film over and over again because we really love it. If we don't like it, even if it is the first time i watch it, I think it is a waste of time. Another reason that I watch repeats is that it is easily for me to forget things. So, I need repeats to remind me every detail of the films or tv programs.

I do not like watching repeats on either TV or movies. I dont like reading the same book or magazine again either. It just bores me so it's actually hard for me to have a favorite movie or book. I dont know why Im that way I just am.

I watch TV episode reruns over and over again. It can be fun because sometimes the second or third time I watch them I pick up on little things I might have missed before. I'll watch movies over and over again if they're on TV, but I don't make a point to go out and rent them again. Not that I think it would be a waste of time, but I do think it would be a waste of money. My best friend and I used to have Charmed marathons. She has all the seasons on DVD and we'd stay up all night just watching them all. Now that I have a kid it's not so easy, lol.

My kids always want to rent movies they have seen and that drives me crazy. It is a waste of money and if I am there I make sure they don't rent a movie they have already seen. I put a stop to it. They have seen some movies so many times and paying every time.
