Jam bands

Who hear is in a jam band? Also who hear listens to jam bands? Do you prefer bands that write their songs our bands that make them up off the top of their heads?

I used to have a band and we would look for gigs. We jam once in a while and while that might be satisfying, more satisfying is to get a gig where you get heard. Cheers!!
