My kindergartener gets an allowance. It is a dollar a week, at this point. We take her to the store, the bank etc. She sometimes gets to buy things. These are her first lessons in how to manage money. She has seen daddy or I sit and write checks to pay some bills. When did/will you start teaching your children about the value of money?

I take my little sister everywhere with me the bank, the stores, she hangs to me wherever I go when we go to town. I do try to teach her the value of money and buy telling her she has a few dollars to spend and letting her choose stuff is to me teaching her how the value money while shopping. I know I still have alot to teach her though about it.

We have tried to teach the kids about money since they just entered school. We had a major problem though is that the youngest would spend everything she had and then grumble that she wanted something else. The middle child would lose everything given to her. And the oldest would buy stuff for the other two and not for herself. Now that they are older it is finally starting to sink in to them that it is worth saving up for something they really want and not lose, spend or give it away. I guess they had to just learn it on their own.

I teach my daughter money management. She will be 17 in February. she has a part-time job. she has a car payment and insurance to pay. Her car will be paid off in February or March because I show her how to manage her money.

My son has been in love with money for as long as I can remember. It started pretty young. He understands that if he wants something then he has to save up his money to get it or take out a loan from the "Bank of Mom" and pay it back. He does not get a regular allowance, but he does earn money for other things.

I give my daughter an allowance like that, too. However, I'm not sure what she does with all the money. I saw a five dollar bill laying around her room the other day and she should have four more singles, too.. but I don't know where they are.

I don't have any children at the moment but when I do I hope to teach them as much as I can about managing money before they get to school level. My partner is going into early childhood so it'll be easier since she'll have experience with this. lol
