Slaughter houses!

Canada
November 18, 2008 8:28am CST
I am ashamed of Canada! Canada & Mexico are the only two places in the world that have "full scale" horse slaughter houses (very inhumane) to satisfy the European market for horse meat! I have just visited a web site; that made me cry, and I couldn't finish watching the video's or reading the documented text! The US banned these slaughter house's...but now are shipping the horses to Canada/Mexico under the dark of nite! I wished I could post the website for all to see! Sadness envelops me!

I must admit that I am a meat lover. I do love horse meat and to behonest I never thought that there are slaughter houses for horses. I knew that such things exists for cattles but never for horses. Usually in my country you can find horse meat after a race horse has broken his leg or usually it is an old house. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

I think, m'dear, winterose, if you saw this documentary...you would be as outraged as I am! The most disgusting "slaughter farm" is located in Saskatchewan, and if you can believe it, it is called "Natural Valley Farms." They slaughter 225 horses per 8 hour day. It is manner that the transportation & slaughter that has me outraged! You are a mentor & senior (as in been here a long time) member of myLot...Please advise me.....I can't seem to figure it out...is it against regulations to post a link to this site? I would love to make it available, so that somehow the outrage could come from a larger population. Thanks for your time & trouble! Cheers!

you can post links that are not for profit, you can even post an excerpt (a paragraph) from the site, but not more than that and you must always post the link with it.

This is nothing new. a slaughter house is a slaughter house whether it is to slaughter horses or cows or goat or chicken for that matter. Just because they are horses, it does not make it any more evil or less evil if they are cows and sheep or goats for that matter. Ihas become a part of human nature to eaqt non-veg food. we do not really heed to the plight of animals in captivity which are slaughtered everyday. We can not stop it. it has always been there. Survival of the fittest. The strong eats the weak. Man has been eatign meat for ages and reversing the trend is impossible.

Dear mercuryman3a....I do NOT feel that you read the post, just replied! I have stated that I am fully aware of the slaughtering of all animals! And the need for meat! There is absolutely NO negatives about eating meat in my post! What I am opposed to .... is that in Canada, there are NO Federal Inspectors (that aren't paid off)....NO controls in the slaughtering of horses! In ALL of our other meat packing/slaughtering Plants there are FULL time Inspectors covering a variety of aspects...humane/health, etc., of the animals to be slaughtered! And in each case, other than horses, the kill must be at least as untraumatizing as possible to the said animal/poultry/pig/cow/goat/duck, etc! I am a carnivoire, enjoy my meat! I ask that you read the entire post....as my discussion was not about consumption....it was about the illegal transportation manners, and the manner of kill. Cheers....and have a great weekend!

Well i did read the whole discussion. i do no tanswer without reading. There was no mention of inspectors etc. youtlked of "very inhumane" conditions in the slaughter houses. I feel that slaughtering itself is inhumane. leave alone corruption of inspectors etc. But what can be done about it? What ever method you follow for slaughtering iit causes pain and a loss of life which i feel is pathetic, but it has becoem a way of life. When terrorists do not think twice about slaughtering humans, a slaughter house is an organised activity. Those involved do not have any feelings or remorse. For them it just becomes a job and a means of a livelihood. A butcher cuts meat like we cut a loaf of bread.

It's still legal to slaughter horses in Texas too...but I think most of those are turned into dog food. I learned about this when I started working with my friend, who is a racehorse trainer. Over 70,000 thouroughbreds are born each year and those that can't make it as racehorses are the first to go to "the killers". Some of them are rescued though. If you're interested, go to rerun dot org. Happy MyLotting!

PrincessKitten, my understanding from research is that the last slaughterhouse in the United States was closed by the Federal Gov't in September of 2007, and I think that "house" was in Texas, whom are now sending their animals to Mexico, to be slaughtered! It is legal to gather them in compounds, to transport them to slaughter houses...and these compounds are commonly called slaughterhouses, but that is where they are going! Now that m'dear winterrose cleared up my misunderstanding...this is the website;www.defendhorsescanada.org......but be prepared it is very, very graphic and the photos are disturbing, and so is the text!
