Interesting article I stumbled on. Obama supporters can gripe about it not being a mainstream source, but this article in itself is very well sourced and documented through out it's entirety. Besides, it's pretty hard to find anything objective in many main stream media outlets about Obama.

Obama has said he would not resurect the Fairness Doctrine and many of his supporters have pointed to that fact to calm the fears of conservative talk radio listeners. However what you don't hear is something a little more sinister. A little known vague FCC law called "localism" that can be used. And as this article points out, Mr. Obama is not afraid to use it.
"On September 20, 2007, Obama submitted a pro-localism written statement to an FCC hearing held at the Chicago headquarters of Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr.'s Operation Push."

I think an informal imitation of this has already started on Mylot.com The conservatives are attacked, and their star, points and earning power go down.

What's wrong with localism? You don't want your local TV and radio stations to primarily serve your community, rather than what some guy in New York thinks would serve your community?
Anyway, if the Fairness Doctrine were reestablished, wouldn't that be the end of the "liberal media?"

The TV media, Print Meida and NPR would all still go on as they do now. Only Talk Radio would be impacted. I have several liberal friends who listen to talk radio to get the other side of the news. They have commented that liberal talk radio is only talking about how bad the US is and never sees anything good that we have done. Liberal talk radio does not fill a need even for liberals because they keep going under. Let all sides be heard but let me choose what I listen to. I like talk radio and don;'t like to just listen to music all day.

the problem with localism is it isn't local. it relies on vague federal regulations and agenices. And the problem with the fairness doctrine is, it is a direct violation of the 1st amendment, blatently so, it doesn't matter to me if it benefits liberal media or conservative media, it is the government regulating information and news.

Thank you for the very informative articles. One of the things that bothered me was the racial overtones that all problems are racial and that society in general is a hateful racial society. If you look at history and the development of business in the poor communities you will see that Italians tend to support their own, Asians support their communities, other national groups support their communities. The one exception is the Black Community. Black businesses seem to fail in Black neighborhoods and are successful if they move out. To meet the need of the community other ethnic groups opened business only to be targets of attacks and when a riot broke out they were the first hit. I grew up in a Conservative Up State community in New York State. In the summer of 1964 Rochester, New York became the first smaller city to experience Race Riots. In the months following we had community organizers trained by Saul Alinsky making demands of business, schools, community organizations and the city. Backing the demands was always the vague threat of violence. I was in a high School at the time and remember many of my Black Classmates being intimidated by other blacks. This was a pattern I noticed in college too. If you were a black trying to be successful you were pressured to change and fight for the cause. There was the demand for equal rights with special privileges and protections. On College campus the demand was for a school funded Black Cultural Center with the students receiving the money to be spent as they saw fit. Courses in Black Studies taught by Black Professors with Black student screening the applicants. blacks who were friends with white students were harassed and shunned. There became a sense of entitlement because of discrimination in the past. Any one who spoke out against them were accused of being racist and hateful people. I see the attempt to silence Conservative Talk Radio to be the new way to intimidate people so that you do what they want or as they said after the Riots in Rochester. "It may be a Long Hot Summer".

that is very typical Jackson mantra, dinosours like him would be out of a job if racism disapeared.
