Do you prefer easy discussions or sophistic ones?

I can see these two categories of discussions here on myLot. Some of them are really simple and it is not hard to respond to them. On the other had and really serious and sophistic discussion usually quite long. And sometimes it is really hard to respond to them in the similar sophistic way. To be honest I usually prefer simple once, because it is less tiring for me. But when I am in the mood and rested I sometimes join also serious discussions. What about you? Do you prefer more easy discussions or serious ones? And what kind of discussions do you usually start?

I enjoy both types of discussions, but as for serious it has to be serious in a manner that is not political. If it is political I will not join in on most occasions unless I feel that the person who started the discussion will not be harsh in responding to what I had to say. I'll be the first to admit I couldn't carry a tune on those kinds of discussions. I try to start discussions that are both serious, and fun, but of course usually in two different discussions.

I enjoy simple discussions myself, ones that are easy to reply to. Like you somecowgirl, I try to stay away from the political ones, and the religious ones. I know nothing about politics, and it bores me because I don't understand it, and the religion one, I just don't want to get into it with people who don't believe the way I do, so I stay away from those...

I prefer them in between, really. I mean, there are these discussions about whether you flush your toilet paper or put it in a basket (in fact, at the moment of writing this, it’s one of the top discussions, hard to believe, but true). I honestly wouldn’t KNOW how to respond to them. And there are these really lengthy discussions about God and how organized religion keeps us all at bay, subjugating us, really. And they are real deep, they frighten me. That’s why I find it sometimes hard to find a post which I can relate to, like yours, for example. But again, I’m middle-of-the-road, not too shallow, please, but not too sophisticated either.

I think it is best to be balanced between these two discussions kinds. And as I can see, most of people here are usually balanced.

Well honestly it deprnds on my mood when I come on here and how much time I have to spend in here as well. I think I start a mixture of both, its nice to be serious and simple.

I prefer what you call sophisticated discussions though I do not push aside simple discussions. This is because we have to draw on our experiences and knowledge, and have to utilise the brain to formulate an answer. Sometimes this can make us understand the subject under discussion/scrutiny. Simple discussions sometimes be too mundane, not requiring much brain work. At times not much can be said, thus defeating the purpose of having a discussion in the first place. I have not started many discussions and it is too early to categorise my discussions.

I really have a hard time responding to simple discussions. I am sure that you are referring to the discussions that are more like polls, such as "How many people are in your household?" Because then you just have a one word answer. I find that it takes less time for me, actually, to write a few long responses than many short ones, and I make the same amount of money, or even more. Plus, I feel like my response is being put to good use, and hopefully even enlightening someone. Plus, I know that we have to write more than a couple of words, and I find it hard to know what to say when it comes to small discussions.

Yes you are probably right about it is sometimes hard to write at least 4-5 quality lines for simple discussion. But sometimes I am just to tired to read and respond serious ones:)

Katrhina I agree with you too. It is important to have some knowledge about a subject before forming an opinion - especially an opinion that's going to be listed for thousands to see. If I find a discussion that is interesting but that I don't know much about, I'll research it online and by reading others' comments before I post anything. If I'm not interested in it, I'll just move on. But I reply to both; serious and silly.

I don't mind whether the subjects under discussion are simplistic or complex,as long as they give me something to work with! I generally wouldn't respond to a question that has no discussion value whatsoever, like "What's your favourite colour"! or something along those lines..I want to be engaged by discussions, not feeling an overwhelming urge to reach through the screen and slap somebody for being so lazy!

Sophistic? That's way too big a word for me! But seriously it just depends. If it's WAY too long I may bypass it, but in general I like almost all kinds of discussions that aren't repeats of discussions I've seen a bazillion times before or discussions on topics that just don't interest me.

This is a pretty good discussion and I am sure there are a lot of people out there who like easy discussions because they are easier to start, and easier to respond to which means they can do more responses and start more discussions, and then I am sure there are a lot of people out there who like sophisticated discussions because they like going into a lot of detail when they are responding to a discussion, and they also like going into a lot of detail when they are starting a discussion ,and then there are probably people out there who like both easy discussions and sophisticated discussions and they try to respond to both types, and they like to start both types, and I can understand why someone would prefer one over the other,or choose both types as their favorite, and that is cool that your prefer simple and easy discussions to respond to because it is less tiring on you,and that is also cool that when you are in the mood and rested you will sometimes join serious discussions as well,I have been on mylot for about seven months now and my fiance has been on here for about eight, and I really enjoy this fine site, and I enjoy my time on here and I really enjoy responding to discussions, and I sometimes like responding to easy discussions because I can respond to more, and help improve my earnings since me and my fiance are having trouble finding a job right now,due to the economy, and we are trying to make as much money as we can, since are saving for our wedding, but lately I have liked more sophisticated discussions because I like making really long responses which helps me with my earnings and also helps me share my opinions with other mylotters.

Well i dont like too simple discussions, something like 'whats your fav colour' lol thats something i'd never answer, but on the other hand I also dont like too serious things. Something in the middle, but with a lighter note. And definitly not politics.

i prefer both.. when i find it curious, i would do simple things or post simple ones.. then, when given the time, and the opportunity to encourage someone, then i posted, maybe not sophisticated ones, but are encouraging ones.. it helps a lot. not just to me, but to everyone else who are reading my discussions.. somehow it helps to me too..

You have made some very good points.I respond to all types of discussions if I think I can .If I am trying to keep up my qouta for thr day I normally respond to the simplier ones. However my major consideration is whether I cna respond to the discussion or not With regards to the ones I start ,I also start both kinds.
