The tree that tried to eat Taj!

I'm putting this in cats, because the tree did try to eat Taj in 2005. Well, in 2005 the roomie's nephew left a screen door open on a porch that the cats had access to. This lead to the "Great Escape" that had almost all our cats get out, including Taj. Well, after a few days, we had all them in except for 2 semi-ferals and Taj. We had seen the 2 semi-ferals but not a wisker of Taj. We called, we looked, we contacted the pound, we put up signs, no Taj. Finally, one night we heard him crying in the back yard. I took a fresh flashlight and went out and found him in this tree. Now, you say that cats climb trees, they can get down, but Taj had NEVER climbed a tree before. And then there was the chow dog in the nighbor's yard.... Well, I only had a 6 foot ladder, by standing on that I could just put some food and water on a branch that Taj could reach. I was reaching up and trying to get him to let me grab him, but he was just outta reach! I stood there for over an hour, on the ladder, coaxing and talking to Taj. The next day, the roomie's father, and the guilty nephew, came with a 15 foot ladder. Her dad wanted the nephew to go up the ladder, but 1) the nephew was afraid of heights, and 2) Taj was afraid of the nephew. Taj wouldn't come to him, he'd come to me, AND I'm not afraid of heights. I went up, got Taj, and started down, cat in one arm, other hand on the ladder. Just before I got to the bottom, that DOG when NUTZ and Taj proceeded to slash me and the roomie's father. Well, this last week we had a big wind storm and a big old branch of that tree came down on the fence between our yard and the one next door (the chow is long gone to his new home.) Turns out, the tree that tried to eat Taj has since died and is falling apart. We had a tree expert out to take the limbs in our yard. I can't say I'm sad to see that tree go. Its a hackberry tree, a "trash tree" anyway, so good riddence!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtis_occidentalis if you read down, the wood is only good for fences and cheap furniture and it is very opportunistic, I've got one that has grown thru a fence! They are hard to kill, and birds spread their seeds so they are prone to grown on fence lines.

Yeah, and on the fence it is impossible to get the trees on the other side.

Trees are vicious! One took a big bite out of my garage several years ago and I've neever had the funds to repair the damage, so it (the garage) sits there mouldering away...

Yeah, if you read one of my responses, we got someone out to take care of parts of the tree that was endangering one of the sheds.

Actually, while the chow did bark at us when we were in the yard, he wasn't really a bad dog, just that he scared Taj up the tree probably in the first place and then chose to bark at just the wrong time! He had been company for Zoe before we got Cujo.

yeah, it is, also broke the other people's fence and bent the rail on ours, but since most of the fence is leaning over our yard, I think the dogs are still stuck in the yard.

My what a horrible experience for Taj. I am glad he lived thorough it. The first time Abagail got out when we first got her I was afraid I would never see her again. She stayed out all night and half the following day. She finally came home and the rest is history.

Yeah, that was over 3 and a half years ago, but while we were taking trash out the front door, and Taj was in the front room, I didn't have to worry about him going out, he'd rather go back into the rest of the house than out the door!
