Can one silently sniffle?

I've been having the sniffles since I woke up this morning. I don't feel sick. I feel very tired and sleepy as I left the house at 830am yesterday and didn't get to home until after 1am (2 jobs and a birthday celebration later) and now I'm up again for work and then driving off to San Francisco for another birthday celebration. And then it's very cold in the morning, hot during the day and then freezing at night. Can one subtly sniffle? It feels like I'm intentionally making noise but I'm not even trying.

It's interesting that you say this SaintAnne because my wife has been sneezing and sniffling all day and feeling quite down about it all; yet the minute I was able to divert her attention from these feelings, she hasn't sniffled, sneezed or complained since! The bottom line is that you are setting a bad example for the panda for one; and secondly, the mind has this uncanny ability of creating this realm of suffering that ain't always as bad as it actually is in reality! I say get out some Cure music, dance like a dervish, try on those jeans that still fit ya and get on with it with a smile and a carefree mentality! Do all of this and before you know it, the "subtle" feelings of sickness and negativity will be cowering in the corner like the pansy a@@ed entities they truly deserve to be!

LOL. Just from reading your response, I've thought of a possible cause for my sniffles. Cleaning the bathroom... all that "chemical" stuff went into my nose. I did put those jeans on with a carefree mentality last night and now, the sniffles are yet to be heard from.

i have not got sniffles in about year.but before that,i had a bad attack of sniffles.it was partly because of my great son who wouldnt sleep at night.and after sleepless night i had to go for work.i had to take leave ,only then did my sniffles subside. take a break and get some rest.your sniffles appear to be because of stress.

I have today off and don't have to get up early tomorrow so I'm hoping I would feel much much better. Although I am not feeling that bad yet. I just have the sniffles and my throat is a bit scratchy. I hope your son no longer gives you the sleepless nights. Thanks, riyasam.

Thanks, riyasam. I just got up from a five-hour nap. Now I'm drinking some fluids I think might help me. You and your son take care.

You had mentioned about your long day but that was really long. I just hope you are feeling better now. You take care, hon. You post came in timely when I just had recovered from the same. I had bad cold and cough last week and struggled to control the sneezes and snilfles. But guess what, I wasn't doing it right and my endeavor only was validating what i was wanting to hide! So, I took a leave and sneezed and snifled my lung, heart, stomach and whatever out to feel much better. With the release , i got well soon. Just get it out, you will feel better, sisi. Get well soon.

LOL. I caught this from you, mimpi. All that interaction, I finally got something. I'm glad you feel much, much better now. I just have the sniffles and a little tickle in my throat... hopefully it doesn't get worse than that. Thanks, mou.

No, you cannot subtly sniff... you have to stuff tissue up your nose. But that's not very subtle either, is it?

Its we and ourselves we can manage if we are a doll or toy, but its really tough to make it silently as we cant change with a remote to our health...in your case take care as the other fellow people in party should not have send you out my friend...

It was my decision to go, rkrish and I had a fun time. But I'm trying to take it easy today. Probably go back to sleep when I feel like it but right now, I still feel a little energized.

If you are not trying then how subtle can you make it ? I certainly can't in any case.. I had a tought time too a couple of weeks back and can relate to it. Maybe blocking you nose ?

I block my nose, I can't breathe, I die, alokn. The half hour before I started this conversation, I felt that the only noise I hear in the quiet house is my sniffling. Therefore, I felt that I wasn't subtle at all. I hope you're feeling much, much better now compared to weeks ago. I'm NOT sniffling today so I'm hoping yesterday was just a fluke. Sometimes I get those as part of my allergy package and then they just go away... took me a day though.

You probably can, because usually the noise inside your head is louder than the one outside, but let's think this through. For those who believe in the germ theory of contagion it is the earlier stage of a cold that is most easily communicated to ones friends. So do you really want to risk giving the birthday person the gift of a cold? San Francisco weather is notorious for turning on one, so as you say, you would be going through some changes there. AND didn't I hear that you burned the candle at both ends last night, too? Maybe your sniffles are trying to tell you that it is a better idea to stay home and rest! After you infect all your coworkers, of course ;-)

I agree with your drannhh, I think the noise inside is so much louder... I've also asked myself if I eat crunchy food too loud... I've even asked my eating companions if they can hear me and they don't. Or maybe they were being too polite but I don't think my sister is past being polite with me. I don't have the sniffles now. I was getting worried there but now I can face another day of working. I did go to that birthday celebration and had a fun time. San Francisco was actually less cold than when we got back to where we live. It was foggy and driving in the fog is no fun. I drove! Tomorrow, I am putting the candles away.

Hi anne! I know how hard it is to try to stiffle the sniffles! It is so embarrassing! You can't really help it but you feel so self-concious! It has gotten really cold here! Today me and bf went out to get him his birthday gift and do some last minute grocery shopping for Thanksgiving. We have to walk to the stores and they're a pretty nice distance away from where we live. It was so cold! I was all bundled up in layers so when I got into the stores I was hot and then when I went outside I was freezing. The perfect way to get sick! I hope you feel better!

I thought I was feeling better yesterday. But I kept myself busy the whole day at work so maybe that is why I didn't think much of what I was feeling. And now that I have the whole day to myself, then I'm sniffling again. Isn't today your bf's birthday? Happy birthday to him and hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving. And I hope you don't get sick either from all these temperature changes. Thanks, Opal.
