Yesterday was Hubby’s (the Old Goat) bi-yearly sheering LOL About every six months I get him on the bench, pull out the shavers and sheer him. He ends up with about ¼” of hair on his head when I’m done. He likes it though and it’s a lot nicer looking and easier for him to take care of. When it gets too long he looks like some kind of wild caveman LoL Also the cat enjoys it b/c she just sits there laughing the whole time I went to school to learn hairstyling but decided that it wasn’t near as much fun as playing with my own. I rarely cut anyone’s other than Hubby’s b/c I just don’t enjoy doing it. It took me years but my oldest brother finally got the message and he goes to the barber now. I cut on mine sometimes, usually when it won’t do what I want. I do think that I’m going to have to buy a new set of shavers b/c these ones aren’t working too good. Do you cut ppl’s hair in the family? Do you have any training? Is it something you enjoy doing? ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

Hi there twoey68 I cut all three of my son's hair. I just get the clippers out and over their heads I go. The only bit I actually cut and that is the bit around the ears. I usually give my eldest a number 2 or 3 (depending on the season!) as he has a double crown so he either has to grow it past the crown or keep it short so it doesn't start to stick up. My other 2 sons I usually give a number 4 because they don't suit their hair too short. I wouldn't dare cut anybody elses hair as I have had no training. My kids are always on the move so they wouldn't stop long enough for anyone to notice if I had made a mistake LOL

I cut the front/sides of my hair when I get fed up with them! I also trim the roomie's bangs, (she calls it the "sheepdog effect.") I've also trimed my client's hair when she got fed up with it. She doesn't care if it looks good or not, but I do my best to not make it too bad. When my mom moved into the Manor, I got her old hair cutting box that she's had since I was a child. I took it over to my client's since that's where the most cutting is done and not only used the sissors, but the thinners on her hair. Our hair is so thin anyway that thinning it wasn't something WE ever needed! I thinned her hair so that it would lay down better. I don't do the back of my head, I just put it up.

I tend to do the same with mine...I cut the front and sides and then pull the back up. My biggest problem is I tend to get headaches when my hair gets too long and heavy. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

That's when I go to Supercuts! I get the whole thing cut off and fixed and then I'm ready for another year! Past time too, but only now getting that cold.... I cut it off in the winter so it can go down my neck in my coats... then its long enough to put up in the summer!

The last time I tried cutting someone's hair was when my son was 4 and when I got done doing the best I could, he looked in the mirror with tears in his eyes and said, "Mommy, don't ever do this to me again!!" Those are his exact words! Due to this experience, his younger brother never had to suffer the same fate. I have a picture of that haircut and it's awful. I can't believe I am so inept with a set of clippers!!

I had one bad experience with my Niece. She had very long hair and asked me to cut it for her. We went over and over exactly how much she wanted off and her Dad was right there and also agreed to how much. After making absolutely, positively, abso-smurfly sure how much she wanted off...I cut it. As soon as it was cut off she started crying and having a fit saying I cut too much off. Her Dad who watched the whole thing step by step...said you took too much. I was furious. I told her I'd never touch her hair again...and I haven't. I still cut Hubby's and I've cut two of my brothers hair and trimmed my Mom's and did my Nephew's when he was little but that's it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

If my husband went six months without cutting his hair he would be a woolly bully..lol. He has thick hair, and when it gets a certain length it gets curly, he looks like he has a fro, but it starts driving him crazy so we have to cut it. I usually cut it for him, I don't have any formal training or anything, we just cut it all one length with the clippers and let it go at that. I've always thought about going to beauty college, I like doing hair, but I only want to learn so I can do my families hair.

My oldest brother is the same way...his hair is so thick and bushy. Mine gets that way but only after I let it grow out for a while. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

hey that is nice. Six monthly sheering? ha ha ha. i like that. i somehow get very irritable whenmy hair grows long. i like to have it nice nd short all the time. i must have a cut once a month at least. i do not leav it to my wife thouth. i go a a barber. however I have tried my hand with the scissors though. When my daughters were small, i used to cut their hair. I even usd to cut my wife's hair. I had no formal training, but i just learnt on the job. I had become quite good at it and many of my wife's friends used to envy her and ask me if i woudl cut their hair too. ha ha and naturally my wife said "no way" though I would have loved to. ha ha ha. Any ldies willing to give me a try?

I would let a man cut mine as long as he knew what he was doing. It sounds like you have a knack for it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

LOL. i always cut my husbands hair too. He gets it cut about once every two months or so. I hate it when it gets length to it. It just does not look good on him.

Hubby is the same way...it just doesn't look good on him. It looks neater and nicer with it being short like it is. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

Yeah, I cut my hubby's hair, always have, and also both my sons, and I also have two dogs who need to be clipped every 2 months, so I did them too. However, I find that too hard on my back now, so we send them out to get them done; I'd rather pay for it - it's hard work! I've had no training at cutting hair, just picked it up over the years. I don't touch mine though! My hubby is still quite happy for me to do it as he hates going to the barbers, but I wish he would, because I don't really enjoy doing it.

I've never clipped an animal...I take that back, I have. This is really funny too. My youngest brother had a hamster and it got a matted up spot of fur just above it's little tail and my brother asked me to cut it out while he held it. I was terrified that I'd stick it with the scissors. It was the first and last time I've ever had to clip an animal. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

My husband finally shaved his beard made him look like Santa. For a while I thought he was going to try out for ZZ Top with his long beard and long hair. He still has his longish hair. Oh well.

When I was a teen I would cut my dads hair. That was until he went to a barber one day when I was busy and the barber asked who cut his hair, a butcher? That was the end of that. Then one time my girlfriend and I cut a friends hair by each taking a side. That was pretty much a failure too and he had to wear a hat for a few weeks after that! Then I went on to want to go to beauty school until the instructor mentioned old ladies and scabs, that ended my career! That is until one day I said to hubby that he may look good bald, totally bald! His hair was receding at an alarming pace anyways and I was surprised when he said yes. It was such fun shaving him totally bald and so much easier than cutting actual hair! Hair is such a hassle sometimes!

I don't have any training at all. I have cut my own hair many times but not much anymore, it is too hard for me to get the back of it done alone now. I also cut my kids hair when they were younger and my mother would have me trim hers. I have a friend who used to live here and one time we cut each other's hair and we actually remained friends afterwards so I guess we both did a good job. hahaha I also used to give my son and my grandson a buzz cut but my son now goes to the barber to get his done and my grandson when here in the summer don't want the buzz any longer. I wish I knew more about cutting hair but I do know that it is nothing that I would want to have done for a living.

I have the same problem. I can do the top and sides of mine but not the back. As for Hubby, it's just a simple buzz cut all the way around. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

My mother was a hairdresser and growing up with that was horrid. I had to wear the weirdest hairdo's to school...always. When I reached an age where I dared to rebel her, I just grew my hair long and stayed away from you sissor people. Ironically, one of my closest friends is a hairdresser. I was about 48 and had watched many of her clientel come and go before I finally let her cut my waist length hair to something more appropriate for my age. She was pretty darn nervous let me tell you. She did a good job. As for men....go figure....I have only dated one man with short hair in my life. So ...NO...I don't cut anyones hair. My current boyfriend has hair down to his shoulders and I love it. If he cuts it...it will not be with my help.

I do the same in the summer to my husband but winter months since it is colder he wants his hair a inch long atleast so his head doesn't freeze off to bad. I am the official family hair cutter. It is rare for someone on my family to go to anyone else but me to get their hair cut. No, no training it is all self taught. I have been cutting hair since I was about 12 years old. I like to use a wig book for the hair lengths so that I know that it gets closer to what they want. So I usually have a few wig books hanging around and I won't cut a females hair without them looking at the books first and choosing a style they want or similar to what they want so it makes it easier on me. I enjoy doing it when I am not forced which happens alot. I have people tell me that i am going to cut their hair and some come over and say cut it no matter what I am doing or have planned it can be very annoying.

I cut my hair and my two younger kids hair. I have cut my hair since I was a teenager. I also have cut my nieces and sisiter in laws hair. I have never had any formal training. But my sister did go to school for it. Which she no longer does either. As she is now a bank teller. I do enjoy cutting hair. But I can't keep up with all teh new styles and such. So, i just do my own.

me cutting hair - This is me cutting a friend's hair, way back in '74.
I used to cut my husband's hair, and trim his beard, too, but that was long ago and far away. I have cut other people's hair and my own, as well. I never took any formal training in it, though. It's just a talent that runs through my family, inherited from dear old dad. I think my older sister had some training, though, as she went to a "vocational" school. My next younger sister also cuts hair, and actually has our dad's old kit, with the old-fashioned manual clippers (non-electric).
