I'm 17 years old so that excuses me from my actions...right?

This is about a 17 year old male that severly beat a 77 year old woman while she was sleeping and burglarized her home, and left her for dead...OMG!!! He fled to Florida.. He is currently serving a 3 year state term in Florida for fleeing, and assault on a police officer and trespassing.. He has been handed an aggregate sentence of 12 to 24 years in state prison due to that assault.. He regretted his actions and pointed out his young age to the court.. I don't care if he was just 17...He committed a horrible, unspeakable crime and he should be punished... There is no excuse..NONE!!! Give me your feedback...

Hi lakota... He is being sentenced like an adult... He stole her car keys and drove from PA to Florida so he knew exactly what he was doing..He even robbed the poor woman's sons house too! Just awful...

if you dont know right from wrong by the age of 17 then you probably NEVER will! he knew what he did was wrong, horribly wrong..and thankfully he IS serving time for it! though personally i think things like this should get a eye for an eye type of punishment..he beat her..he needs to get beaten too. did the woman live?

How can he say that he regretted his actions he obviously didn't as he would not have fled and would have turned himself in. What a dreadful thing to do to that poor woman. I don't see what his age has to do with it at 17 you know right from wrong. Some people will use any excuse just to try to get an lenient jail sentence.

Hi littleone... That is what the defense was hoping for..using his age..but the district attorney didn't let it happen..

I think a 17 year old is already old enough to know the consequences of his actions. At his age he could already point out which is good from bad and if he still choses bad actions then he should really suffer its consequences. It is really not an excuse for people of his age to be ignorant. Ignorance of the law is really not an excuse because if he will be excused there would be lots of minors who would be follwing what he did because they not they would not be punished for it. Toleratiing the act would just mean injustice to those people who were harmed and aggreviated.

He is 17 years old and not a kid. He should be punished to the maximum for doing this.

There is no excuse for what he has done,if he is capable of this at seventeen what has he got before him to do.He needs to be locked up and treated ,he is sick and in a certain way probably cannot help his actions and that is why he should be locked up for life and never let out,how is that poor woman,to get to that age and have that happen to you is defys belief.Poor old soul, not threat to anyone an easy target for this cowardly monster.

Hi suzzy... He has been sentenced as if he were an adult...The district attorney says he needs to be segregated from society...so he does not prey on others.. My heart aches for this lady...

NO.....that boy has no excuse whatsoever. He's close enough age wise to being an adult, so he can't really use youth as an excuse. What nerve!

That is terrible. He is old enough to know right from wrong. He knew what he was doing the whole time. He should do the adult punishment.

His age doesn't excuse him from doing wrong, but the way the law works, I think, is it considers one's age to determine the severity/type of punishment. It's hoped/believed that with his youth, he'd show remorse and is capable of going the right way later, unlike someone older who's already set in his ways, or if a repeat offender, may be a hardened criminal.

That is the most horrible thing I've heard. I can't believe that anyone would do that. That's someone's grandmother, someone's mom, someone's aunt, sister, that's someone's someone. That could have been his grandma, and how would he feel if that happened to her. It's horrible and I hope he's punished, but I also hope he gets some help.

There are so many stories out there like this lately and you think i would be used to hearing things like that But I am not ! I am sitting here in shock ! That is just horrible ! and age has nothing to do with it . There is right and there is wrong . And something is not right with someone who would do that to someone . He needs help but also has to pay the price . Bless her !

I agree with you 100%. Murder is murder, no matter what the age. Anybody who commits murder needs to be severely punished to the full extent of the law, regardless if the murderer is a minor or an adult. In fact, I believe that anybody who commits murder should have the same thing done to them as they did to the victims.

I get so sick and tired of kids doing adult actions and not wanting to take the consequences for thier actions. That is HORRIBLE!!!! That teen knew exactly what he was up to and doing. He needs to pay the price! Almost all criminals say that they regret thier actions in the begining. In my oppinion it is just an cheesy way to try and get a lighter sentence.

Like you I agree that he should get the Punishment the highest one he committed the Crime and the minute he did he committed his Life to Prison He took a Life away so what he is getting is nothing compared to the poor Woman he killed

Maybe he is a 17 years old with a gorilla brain inside his head. He banged on his chest and said I am 17 and I need to do something to make the world know my birthday. Then he started doing horrid stuff like that. Only an animal can do such thing. It is a good thing that he get his punishment.
