The first few times I listen to a song I usually only pay attention to the rythm because sometimes it can be difficult to understand what the artist is saying. But I usually get tired of the songs that don't have anything interesting to say. My favorites though are ones that have a really great message. I can listen to those over and ever again.

I think mostly by rhythm and melody. I rarely like a song just for the lyrics, dunno why.

both...some i like becoz of words and some coz of rhythm....but wen both r good that makes an excellent song. words are more important to be good...coz if rhythm is not so good but words ok...then atleast u can hear the song, butif the words are dirty then i feel like closing my ears..i cant tolerate them at all.

I am very much against unclean language and gestures. I think that is sinking very low. I like uplifting songs, and truly the less lyrics the better when one is using the music as a background for relxation or work. Songs with lyrics are nice in movies and on stage, however, but only if they are decent.

For me I prefer rhythm first then I go to lyrics. Why rhythm? Because it is easier to recall or remember the beat of the song rather than the lyrics. Let's say you heard something then you tell yourself you like it but you don't know it. You will then ask a friend if he knows that song by humming. I prefer songs with nice rhythm followed by nice music. There are only few instances where I find myself considering lyrics first before music. But I choose the lyrics of songs that I like to include in my favorites list. I doesn't mean that if I like the rhythm, then I automatically like the song. It also depends upon the message.

I don't like songs that are determined by just one aspect of the music. I like songs that are a big picture made up of different parts that are all equal so that way the final equation is a great song with all parts on the same level.

some songs leave its good impression due to its lyrics and some of the songs by its music and considering only one is not possible for most of the songs. we can find in some songs we have good lyrics and we dont like the music but if the music is not good we are not able to listen it more and we need to quit that song and so first comes the music. usually we have some instrumental musics which are pleasant and we like to listen it without the wordings too and hence if music is fine then most of the songs can be managed without wordings or good lyrics also.

I like BOTH!!! Actually, I prefer the lyrics, but if it has good rhythm, I can still listen to it. We went through the nasty lyrics several years back here in the US. I just changed the genre of music I preferred listening to during that time.

i think the rhythm catches my attention first. if the lyrics are good, then it's another plus. however, i would be disappointed if a song had good rhythm and terrible lyrics

i think both lyrics n rhythm are important.... because may be he lyrics is very good but still the song might be very slow n dull....
