well the muslim religion teaches that you should kill anyone who won't convert to your beliefs...I think that is pretty weird...

First of all, the religion is called Islam. Secondly, that's only what certain Muslim radicals believe. Islam itself is not a violent religion. There are also certain Christians that believe that people that disagree with them should die. Please don't be ignorant.

I am not a muslim but let us understand the fact that no religion teaches any person to kill in the name of religion. In Islam there was no faint hint about killing people. Because of some fanatics whole world is suffering. Let us spread love and may be these people will learn the power of love and the meaning of humanity.

I am not muslim but this is wrong. If there are a few bad apples in the barrel, it doesn`t mean the others are rotten as well. I believe there are some believers who are beyond nuts and take things to the extreme. I am not to sure about the 9/11 was more of a politic issue. I think all regligions aren`t perfect. This is just my point of view. Even Christians used to kill scientists who said that the earth was round. You just talk based from the media. If you really take your time to find a muslim friend and chat with him/her, you will know this is just a misenderstanding.

for a start, Asatru is not in the least bit wierd. what on Earth could be seen as wierd about Asatru. I am not Asatruar myself, but my family path has definitely been influenced by Norse paths. The Nine Noble Virtues mean a great deal to me, and if we all tried to live by them the world would be a better place. Honour Truth Hospitality Courage Perseverance Loyalty Discipline Industriousness Self Reliance this really isn't so strange a thing. believing in a sprawling pantheon of deities isn't strange. Asatru really isn't wierd.

I am no real polytheist myself, in that I don't believe in multiple distinct Gods as separate beings. Gods are an anthropomorphism of Creative energy, in my book. My Gods (yeah I know I said I'm not a polytheist. I consider myself a duotheist) are very real to me, but I also know that they're faces of an energy I couldn't truly interact with in it's actual form. but I don't see any negativity or weirdness in polytheism. especially not Asatruuar. they're a good lot.

I don't know I would say polytheism is "weird", that has a negative connotation. I've never really gotten the appeal of worshipping multiple gods, is probably closer to it. I don't really like to anthropomorphize (sp?) my god, is probably why, I like him to be unquestionably superior to me!

This is so amazing, to say the least. I know only about Jainism coz it exists in my own country India. However, one common thing in most of these religions is the concept of spirituality, prophet, good conduct in life, equality and so on. The ancient Persian religion I found more fascinating coz its an ancient religion and I don’t know how many people follow it, even now.

Parsi or the religion which worships Sun. Hindus, aryans, all worship Sun. Great persian religion.

I do not understand how Jainism, came into the 10 odd religions, in fact even if they say Jains are a different religion, basically they are considered a subsect of Hinduism, I may be wrong about Jains being a subsect of Hinduism, if somebody can throw more light on this I will be happy. Since you are studying about religions even you can give more information of Jainism, and I wonder how no Jains have not replied to the fact that their Religion is listed in this particular list. I do not know wether you have heard about Bagwan Rajneesh (Osho), if I am right he also started a commune in Pune, India and then settled somewhere in USA, and once again sent back to India, his commune is still there in Pune, and he has got a lot of followers from all over the world. In fact the commune is run by whites only now.

Hi chasingsunlight, I don't know what you'd consider by "weird," but there's one I came across over 15 years ago which I find very different. Am surprised it isn't on your link's list. It's the Baha'i faith. For some reason, I'd always linked it to Judaism, 'coz that's what I heard. They're related somehow? Perhaps, as you're Jewish, you can shed some light into my understanding of it. Thanks.

addendum: sorry, I'm looking into Baha'ism right now. But I'd still like to hear your take on it. Thanks again.

I do not think any religion is weird because in partly depends on how we perceive things. Our perceptions depends on many things including our religious background. Just because something does not conform to our beliefs and understandings it is not necessarily weird. To understand something better we have to learn more about it while keeping our prejudices and preconceived ideas aside. With distorted information we can easily be manipulated and used by people who are bent on gaining dominance other people. Thank you for the list. I knew only three of them. Over here in Malaysia there are several 'weird' religions founded by former Muslims. The most recent talked about was the Ayah Pin group.

it seems "weird" was the wrong word to choose. I simply meant a religion that you had not heard of or was very unique in your opinion. I study religion in school, which is why this interests me.

I didn't recognize any of those! I would say the only religion I really think of as weird, or in a negative way, would be Scientology. Maybe there are others that would bother me similarly, but because they aren't as focussed on in the media it never presents itself as an issue!

I've heard of the Japanese religious sect called Aum. They conducted sarin attacks in subways and injuring thousands. Weird religion if you ask me, too bad they're not outlawed.
