i don't know i just can't seem to keep my eyes open in class. It is probably becasue i goto sleep late i the night. I think it is to do with age too. It is no time for me to be studying now at 53. I have been detailed to od a training course for 10 days. We have classes from 8.30 Am to 2.30 PM. It gets sort of monotonous listening to the lecturers. Ifeel so sleepy that i keep dozing off. to ward off sleep i have stafrted writing whatever the speaker speaks. I take notes seriously not because i need to but just to keep awake. What do yu do to stay awake in class?

I remember when I was studying that schedules around 7 in the morning makes me more sleepy and during the months of october to december I find it more hard to be alert around that time. I usually would doodle with notes or draw something just to divert my attention.

Hehe, yeah I sometimes feel very sleepy during class, especially during first period. I have to wake up before 6 every day which doesn't give me enough time to do everything I "have" to do after school and still get a healthy number of hours sleep. Because of this, I tend to doze off a lot during class. I usually find that the best way to concentrate is to just force yourself to keep your eyes open and pay attention. I always tell myself that if I don't concentrate, I might miss something important and that might cost me my grade just because I was too lazy. It's really obvious when you're tired during class (I see it in my classmates xD) and when you're trying to keep awake, so this might look weird but it's important to get all the information down from the speaker. =P I suggest you try going to bed earlier. When I manage to go to sleep early, I usually feel a lot more energetic and enthusiastic. It's not hard to get used to a normal sleeping schedule, but it definitely helps boost your concentration and ultimately, your results. ^_^

With as early as classes are its easy to fall asleep. I have to eat a good breakfast before i go to any kind of a class otherwise i would fall asleep too. Gotta have protein like eggs or sausage.

i used to feel drowsy during class especially when i also have my clinical duties the night before that day.what i do is doodle.lol.it keeps my mind off from thinking of sleep and it keeps me preoccupied.but sometimes if i really do feel sleepy,i just cover myself from the person in front of me and take a short nap.i know it's not a good idea but it's so hard to keep myself awake when i really feel the urge to sleep. happy mylotting!

Hehe i always feel sleepy in my classrooms. The case is worst if it is afternoon.I am of the opinion there should be no classes in the after noon section.Make it drill or or something blah blah... Lecture hours are always boringBut i am always compelled to sit inside the classrooms just to meet the minimum attendance requirements. If there is any attendance requirements, i wont be attending the class rooms. But i love practical lab classes, and i always used to attend it with no failure.

when I feel sleepy in class, I would like to do something interesting instead. I may chew chewing gum, try to talking to my classmates in a whisper voice or drink some beverage. That will transfer my attention to other things and let me raise up the spirit. Maybe just close the eyes for a short while and take a deep breathe, it can help us to concentrate the attention in class.

hey dude you are the same as me , the only thing thats different is our age. and what are you doing studying at the age of 53.. enjoy life.. my schedule is very hectic from morning 5 to evening 7 i am always occupied and after that we guys have free time and in that time we usually chat with friends, girlfriends, play the guitar , go to the gym and so we are always late for bed. and in class, we do one thing for averting sleep, smoking. i don't think that you would like doing this if you already aren't a smoker. anyways good luck with your studies,...

hey, LOL it did happen to me once or twice to fall a sleep, and only woke up with the realization of being slapped by my friend's book! and another time, my eyes were closing while taking notes, and later i realized that, the sentences were roving in my note book and i didn't even get to understand a single line from it as the words i wrote got up and down and down and up! but, later, i started to take coffee before the classes' time, and drink mineral water in the class, or eat a sweet, or chewing gum while taking notes, and try to participate in class discussion and try to sit in the first raw... it does in fact help me... good luck, smiley

same here and i have often fell asleep in class and my teachers do not really bother about me cos at that time i am mischevious and also a star athlete for my school. due to my heavy training schedules in the afternoon, normally, i would have a lot of difficulties in staying awake in classes and i would just doze off esp in lectures and my teacher would leave me alone. I did this very often in my high school and Uni. So i would normally copy the lecture notes from my friends or zap them using copier to save time.

First of all you need your sleep. It was important when you were young and just as important now. (I sound like your momma). Reset your bedtime, it will take a week or two but it will help. Also you might want to move your legs around. Your blood pools in your legs and your brain is starved for oxygen. If possible stand up and walk around for a minute if at all possible, if not move your legs, do not sit still. Sometimes even squeezing your leg muscles will help circulation. Unfortunately there is little you can do about a boring lecturer, but it is only for ten days.

well....there´s so many reasons, but i think the most important it's your bed time. i advice you to wake up really early in the morning, it doesn't matter if you don´t have a lot to do, and go to bed at the same hour every day so that your body gets in sync allowing you to rest better. You can also try to look for any aspect in that subject that appeals to you so it becomes an interesting subject and therefore you'll be able to focus better in class.

Well my 1st time going to college i was really young & slept thru almost everyone of my classes & still passed them. Now i've gone back to college & am a little older & wonder how in the world i could ever have gotten comfortable enough to fall asleep in class let alone sleep through class LOL. The only advice i can give you is try to make a positive attatchment w/ur class. Like dont go in there thinking 'o god this is going 2 be another long lecturing day' Think of something positive about the class whether it be u like the teach, like the subject, rem something about the subj from hi school, like some ppl in there or just thinking to yourself that your doing something good for your class continuing your education. That has whats helped me & once i started thinking positively instead of making b's I started making a's! Best wishes to you!

Same as you, I take notes to stay awake. Of course then I fall asleep when I'm trying to study the notes at home lol. That and I bring caffine. Mountain Dew and coffee does wonders for keeping the eyes open. Are you allowed to have drinks in the course? Have you thought about bringing a recorder to class? You could play it back when your most awake. Or listen to it in segments.

thats such a horrible problem, it used to happen me very often too, maybe i can advice you about it, what you have to do its try not to be up late, in the beginning its hard, because you are used to go to bed late, but later it gets easier and easier, maybe you can try by going to bed one hour before the hour you use to go to bed, that way you will start to get used to go ber every time earlier and earlier, you will sleep well and wont have any problems when you are in school

theres always a little trick to stay awake in class. the trick is not to blink or to befriend your neighbor. it always helps to be able to joke around in a time of pure boredom.
