Yes cher it is good to get the Christmas shopping out of the way as early as you possibly can. It makes it much less sttresful plus the cost is a lot less as the prices seem to rise as Chruistmas gets closer and people are in a last minute mad panic to buy. Australia is the same cher in that the Boxing day sales can bring lots of bargains for the smart shopper who has a few dollars left over. Here in Australia some of the stores actually do not start their sales until New Year's day. Others seem to keep the sales going till they have cleared the shelves of everything to do with Christmas. All of the "children" my partner and I have are now adults so we give them money each year for Christmas. It is theirs to spend as they wish and most of the time it seems they find just what they want at these sales. And they think one of the best things is that they could not normally afford the item but with huge markdowns on the prices, they can have what they want or need.

It is all finished in our house Monkeyrose. I do have to admit though that we do not have a whole lot of shopping to do which does make it a bit easier. My partner and I are not exchanging presents because we have recently purchased a new large rain water tank and that is our "gift" to each other. Our adult children will all receive some money and we do that every year since they became independant. We actually make a huge effort to spoil them on their birthday as we think that is the more important event on a personal basis. For us, Christmas is more about the birth of Jesus plus spending time with family and special friends. Giving gifts is secondary. My partner has made some clothes for the grandchildren. Each outfit is unique and individual and made especially for that particular grandchild. We also started a (bank) trust account when each grandchild was born so we also deposit a small amount into each of those every Christmas. Some special friends will either be sharing one of the meals with us on Christmas day plus others will visit us in between their other committments. Some of our special friends will receive a gift which is intended specially for them but we have also potted some flowering plants, herbs baskets etc which others can choose one from. During the year we also made jams, relish and sauces and some of them will be for gifts to friends as well.

Monkeyrose we started giving these sorts of gifts when we first started living together as my partner and I had no money. It was also more personal and we found that our family and friends appreciated that we took some time to think about what to give to them and also that the gifts were personally made by us. As my brother and sister-in-law have always said "it is all too easy to go out and buy something but special people deserve special gifts". They have always given personalised gifts and I have always known that as I have been receiving them for many years now. I appreciated that they took the time and so when they suggested that we could do the same, we followed their example.

Wow it sounds like you really put personal touches on your gifts. Your chritmas sound very "green" as well.

Ah quit with trying to lay on the guilt. I already did my Christmas shopping. I hate going into the store and trying to find the correct gift, and then also finding that the gift is so popular that it has been sold out. So this time, I decided to do it the last days of November and the first week of December. And I was smart, decided to put enough money into my checking account and figured out how much to spend for everyone. Next year, I am thinking of buying online. I really hate standing in line at the cashier's.

That is really smart of you. I didn't do my Christmas shopping until the second week of December and the lineups were already crazy! Shopping was easy for me this year though. I just bought all my gifts at my work so I didn't have to make many extra trips.

I bought my mother's and my grandmother's gifts in October. So early, right?? It's because I bought them jewlery when there was a big sale at the jewelry store in the mall. I bought my brother's gift in November, and I already gave it to him. (It was an extra guitar for our Wii Guitar Hero game.) I have finally done the last of my Christmas shopping these past two days, with the exception of two people. So, I feel pretty good about it. I am getting ready to order one of those gifts online, and then I will just have to figure out the last one. I got an early start this year, and I'm so thankful for that.

Thats great ! sounds like you have almost all of your Christmas shopping done. I was talking to a customer yesterday at work who said she hadn't even started. She's going shopping on the monday/tuesday before Christmas. I would never do that. ITs way too hectic and the stores are so busy.

Yes I started about a month ago when the toy stores where having a half price sale. Of course I couldnt miss the opportunity to start it then. Especially with the price of toys at this time of year. :-)

Well, for this Christmas, we decided to save whatever we are going to spend on gifts. Mainly because we are saving on a huge trip that we want to embark by summer of 2009. So that is really our Christmas gift, it's not just wrapped. lol

I haven't started my shopping yet, and I don't even want to get started..lol. It gets so hectic sometimes, and there are always too many people in the stores. I know its not all about the presents, but we always get carried away with it. I have to buy for my nephews and they are getting older and getting harder to buy for, they are getting so picky these days...lol. Thats one reason why I'm not that excited to go shopping.

I hate to say it but no I have not started my Christmas shopping yet. I wish I would have started sooner, but so much stuff have gone on this year, from me and my hubby getting married and my hubby getting laid off at a job that he's been at forever, just cause they are sending the company to Mexico and with him now starting a new job and me no longer working. So it was kind of hard to do some early Christmas shopping. I hope that things will be better next year and maybe I'll be able to do some early Christmas shopping.

Yes, I've already started shopping for gifts but I haven't wrapped them all. My boyfriend helps me in gift wrapping :) . It's one of our favorite activities during Christmas.
