Is your door unlocked?

My question here is do you leave your door unlocked during the day? I used to always leave my door unlocked. I didn't think a thiing about it. Now, in today's world with all of the crime, I most always lock my door. I'm not sure if I am more paranoid, if I have grown wiser, or if crime is just worse in today's world. What about you? Do you lock your door in the middle of the day? Or is it open for friends and family in case they stop by? Please share your views.

i close my door! it is very risky to keep doors opened. i am not living in a city or town. it is a village and still it is not easy to keep away from thief's. i have about 5 locks on my front door and i usually close three off them in the morning time and in night and time l leave the house i close all of them.

I only kept my door open when I lived in on campus apartments and knew everyone on my 2nd story floor. We would only leave it open if we were sitting in the kitchen or living room where we could see out into the hall. A lot of people would do it. If you lived in the dorms a lot of people there would keep their doors open when they were in there to visit with other boys/girls living on their floor. I never kept my doors open once I moved into an actual house, even now living in an apartment building, I lock the door as soon as I walk through the door.

Good to hear that I am not the only one who has a tendency to do this. I guess I'm not being paranoid. LOL Thanks for joining in the conversation. Have a good evening!

Well in our place it is best that you always lock the door. Although, the place is pretty safe but then it still is a practical thing to do. You 're right in there saying that in today's world crime could easily happen anywhere already so it is best that you lock doors especially if your not in your place always.

Yes there are times when it is best to lock the doors. That does not matter where you live, i.e. country or city because everwhere there are people who have no respect for other people's property. Also there are some people who will injury the occupants of a house if they are caught trying to steal stuff. That can happen whether a place seems safe or not. We all like to think that we live in a safe neighbourhood or area and generally it will be safe but only until someone decides to commit some illegal act. When I was growing up (a long time ago), we never used to lock the doors to the house although we did shut them. From memory the only time we did lock the doors was if we were going away for more than a day and the neighbours were not going to be home to keep an eye on things for us. In today's world it is not unusual for people not to know their neighbours plus some people simply do not want to get involved.

It was the same for us growing up, as a matter of fact we didn't even have a key to our back door. If we would go out of town for a few days, when we got back we had to break into our own home. LOL Thanks for both of your responses, and have a great day!

I lock my door during the day only if I am by myself. At night I always lock my door because I do not live in the best place. But this reminds me of something my dad alwasys used to say, " if they want it they will find a way". I know some people might not agree, but I feel it makes sense.

Yes, i do and i was taught by my parents that no matter when, we must lock the doors and windows. That's because there are really too many crimes nowadays. In my hometown, you can even get robbed when you have already reached your house, just right in front of the door! :-( That's really terrible. My mom got robbed recently on the street where our house located. She wanted to walk back home, but on the way back, there were 2 youngsters who ride the motorbike and point the knife to my mom, asking for money. :-( Luckily they did not hurt my mom after getting away my mom's bag. So, i really think it's better to make sure we are safe at home, perhaps the increased crimes make us more paranoid now. :-(

Thanks for sharing with us that story about your mom. That is so sad. I am glad to hear that she wasn't injured though. I bet she was really shook up, something like that would make me a nervous wreck. Bless her heart. Yes, the crime these days has gotten really bad. And I think if the economy continues to worsen that the crime will rise also. Thanks for your response to this discussion and have a great day!

I try to keep my door locked at all times. You just never know what can happen with crime or burglary. It is better to be safe than sorry as they say. In the middle of the day, I would have it locked, whether I am alone or with company.

There's that expression again "Better Safe than sorry". I agree one hundred percent. I think that if more people were more cautious like this, it would make it harder for theives. Maybe they would even have to go into a different line of work. LOL Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a great day!

NO my door is always locked but i have seen lots of people open their door whole day. In India people do keep their door open , but once in our locality a incident has happened due to which we keep our doors closed. Once in a locality Mad dog entered house as door was open and at that time only ladies were at home so he bite two ladies and run out of house. after that incident everyone keep their house door closed. It is safe to keep your house door closed.

I don’t lock the door if I am in the house, and sometimes I don’t lock it even if no one is in. I live in a small village, and I have never known anyone to come in my house without consent, though it is not obvious whether I lock my door or not, as it is at the back of my house. I will sometimes go out for hours and the door isn’t locked, but I do lock the door at night when I am in bed. A few years ago, I never locked my door at all, I have no idea why I started, even so I am still erratic in locking it.

It sounds like you live in a pretty safe neighborhood. That is great, I think we all long for that. It gives you a great sense of security when you live in a small village, and a lot of times everybody knows just about everyone else who lives there. Thanks for your response, and have a great day!

it's better to be careful than to regret later. we can't say what would happen the next moment. i do lock my door always when i'm not in as i need to save my thingsa myself. what's the use of keeping everything open and cry later is lost anything. if there is a robbery in such case then u neednot to call a cob as u r respnsible for it. its the need of theif to steal and make his living, it's not all his mistake.for my family and most reliable friends i keep my doors open but not for others.

Well, that's one way to look at it. I wonder if the police or the laws were more firm on theft, if the thieves would choose a different occupation. I know you used to hear stories about some countries who would cut off your hand if you were caught stealing. I wonder if there is any truth in this. Thanks for your response to this discussion. Have a great day!

i lock my door everyday anytime, just to fill more secure. my parent times they do not need to lock or in fact they say they don't not even need doors because everyone knows each other and nothing big like killing crime would happen. i really want those time again, the peace. but i think is going worse everyday now in the world, maybe later on is not even just a lock door but like fingerprint scan door or like face scan and 3 layers of lock doors, who knows

It is interesting to think about what the future may hold. I often wonder myself. We have so much technology already, and what will it be like next. I remember an alarm system where I used to work. Whenever someone would go in and not get the code punched into the computer fast enough, the alarm would go off. Then someone from the alarm company would call me. It was amazing how fast I would get the call. Sometimes I knew they were going to call because someone messed up, so I would be standing there waiting for it. Thanks for your comments in this discussion, and have a great day myLotting!

Better safe than sorry, what a great way to put it. I am this way in a lot of things I do in life. A lot of people say I worry too much, or that I am too cautious. I remember when I first started dating my boyfriend, he would always make sure my door was locked when he would see me back to my car. Finally, he figured out that they lock on their own when you put the car in drive. LOL Thanks for your response in this discussion. I hope you have a wonderful day today!

Ofcourse,I leave my door locked all the time, not even for family members. Nowadays the crime rate has risen because of the lack of employment that's why people are going for the easy money.

You are right about the rise of unemployment causing the rate of crime to go up. It's really sad to know that, but crime does seem to rise around the holidays. Thanks for your response, and have a good evening!

When I was in college in a close knit community no we never locked our doors. When I came into the big city is when I started locking my doors. I think it's based off of how safe and secure you feel with where you are and the people who surround you. I'm now in a big city so really there's no telling what people will do. So for my safety my property I keep my doors locked.

we live in a small village where people's houses do get robbed once in a while. so we keep our gates locked outside but our doors are not. it's too hot to close everything up. i'm not worried about theft anymore because we now have 3 trusty dogs who go crazy whenever someone gets near our fences. an uncle of mine who confidently walked in our gate once (he didn't wait for my husband to tie the dogs first) almost got bitten by one of our dogs. good thing his wallet is thick so the dog's teeth didn't penetrate into his skin. otherwise, we would might be obliged to pay for the expensive anti-rabies shots i would imagine it would only be a stupid robber who would want to go into our yard instead of targeting other houses that are easier to access.
