Not knowing paternity.

When I am sat at my pc, I have the T.V. on for background noise. At this time of the morning, a show called the Jeremy Kyle show is on, it is a chat show that tries to help people out in their relationships.
But, one main things that is on it, is finding out the paternity of children. Sometimes it is because the “potential” father has heard rumours of their partner cheating, sometimes it is because the woman has admitted to cheating.
Either way though, I can’t understand how a woman can be so unsure of who the father is, unless a woman has slept with more than one man in a matter of hours/days I really can’t see why there should be such uncertainty.
I knew/still know exactly who the father to my son is, though this is down to the fact that I wasn’t sleeping around and certainly wouldn’t need to go on this sort of show to find that out.
What are your thoughts on this issue?

I had a period where I was trying to plot my family tree so was reading a lot of genealogy articles. Someone guestimated that as much as 10% of offspring are illegitimate. I do not know if that is fact in days gone by, but it seems that promiscuity abounds these days as promiscuous women and promiscuous men cannot know exactly whose child is whose. The name on the birth certificate might not be that of the biological father. I remember that one article said that if one of the older girls got pregnant out of wedlock then the child might have been brought up as a younger sibling in the family to hide the shame. There is no shame now having children when you are not married, in fact it seems a source of pride among some men on how many baby mommas they have and the women have several children each with a different father.
