What a rip off!

Is anyone else tired of people ripping off your discussions? I am so tired of starting discussions only to to see virtually the same discussion started just a day or 2 later by someone on my friends list. Can't people come up with their own ideas for discussions? Some of these people even responded to my discussions then turned around and started the same discussions.

With all the different users on mylot, it is almost ineveditible that you will have similar discussions about the same topics on here. However if they are on your friends list and you know they got the idea from you thats pretty rotten. Its amazing what people will do for a few cents. lol.

I don't mind if it's similar but when I know for a fact they ripped it off because they responded to mine before they posted theirs, it pisses me off.

I'm sorry that happens to ya. I don't know that I've had that problem. I do know that I have had a couple of discussions that I felt my responce needed to be a discussion of its own, with additions and I always admitted I have done it. My suggestion, remove those people from your friend's list....

Well, at least one of them was very related. In fact, I lifted my response wholesale from the discussion, but I did add to it AND I said I had.

That would have been ok with me too. This person said they didn't do it on purpose. And denied doing it. That's why it bothered me.

I'm thinking about it. I think they caught on that I was talking about them so we'll see what happens. I have done the same as you, I respond to someone then I realize that I could start my own discussion based on that response. I've done it also but it doesn't usually have anything to do with the original discussion that was started.

I haven't intentionally done that to anyone but I've noticed it a time or two. I can't say for sure but, depending on how you operate mylot, you may not see a discussion, even one that your friend starts, before you start it. I usually check out discussions my friends start but some folks just go by the topics.

Well, you do have a point there!

This person responded to my discussion before they started theirs. If it was as you said, I wouldn't be complaining about it. I don't have a problem with similar discussions being started but when they read yours, respond to it and then post a very similar discussion, I have a problem with that. They knew they did it.

Oh my goodness, I have had a few of my discussions copyed by other mylotters but I dont let it bother me that much as long as its not exactly the same as mine word for word, and maybe it was unintentional maybe they didnt notice yours or something.

They responded to my discussion before they started their discussion. I wasn't unintentional.

Well if I posted a topic thats similar to anyone else's its purely by accident I have absolutely no intentions of copying anyone's discussions and I'm truly sorry if I made a mistake.

I just noticed someone called pratt69 or something like that. She posted the same thing twice. Whats the point of that?

I agree camomom. I have seen people respond to my discussion and then turn around and reword it every so slightly and start it up again. Come on guys lets get an original idea please!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that this happens to. I didn't even think that my discussions were that interesting that someone would want to steal them.

I didn't notice anyone ripping off my discussions, but I think all you can do is report the discussions they copy from you. And if the administrators don't delete those discussions you can turn evil and start rating all the discussion that person starts negatively, and report as many discussions violating the guidelines.

Good plan. I think the person I was talking about got the hint. I'll keep this in mind next time.

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I went ahead and responded to the discussion anyway. I guess I'm kind of used to it. It doesn't happen all that much now, but it used to. Mylot is supposed to delete copy at discussions. The ones that are pretty much word for word. I remember about a year ago, a new mylotter copied five discussions from another mylotter, word for word. Exactly word for word. It was reported, and the discussions that were copied, were deleted.

That's good that mylot did that. I hope they were banned. I'd rather point it out to the poster's that they duplicated a discussion and let them know that I'm on to them. If it's done again, I'll report them.

They probably are not doing it on purpose. There are just some topics that come up and we might think they are original but someone else has already thought about and asked the question. I am sure we have all done it not realizing there was already such a discussion. Now for those who read yours and copied that is pretty in-exusable.

I would normally think that but this person responded to my discussion then turned around and started their own very similar discussion. They didn't do it by accident. They may have thought there was nothing wrong with it but they knew they did it. I don't mind similar discussions but in this case....it was wrong.

Every once in awhile I see 2 friends start the same discussion, sometimes on the same day, but I don't think they are on each other's friends lists, so they wouldn't know about it. Other than that, I've never had a problem with it.

I've seen that before too but this one responded to my discussion, they are on my friends list, and then turned around and posted their own about the same thing. If they hadn't responded to mine and posted it, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

There does seem to be a lot of disscusions that are almost the same. I suppose we all think alike!!

I see a lot also and I don't mind similar but if it's someone on your friends list that has responded to your discussion and then posts a very similar discussion, that's just a rip off, not a coincidence. Coincidences, I can deal with. That's understandable.

Hey camomom. They have a lot of nerves to do that to you. I haven't noticed anyone ripping off my discussions but that's a crime shame that some people can't be creative and think on their own. This type of behavior should be against the rules to stop these thieves in their tracks. Did you delete them from your friend's list. Friends that do this isn't a friend at all. I can't believe that they had the balls to reply to your discussions right before they stole it. I'm sorry this happened to you. You are a good friend of mine, and you definitely don't deserve it.

Thank you so much for your comments. I have not deleted them yet and I did point it out to them so that they'd know I knew what they did. If they do it again I'll report them and delete them. I think it is against the rules but I haven't actually researched it.

I know it is a pain but some people might of over looked your discussion and started talking about the same thing. I could understand if its a topic that is rare and the odds of someone posting the same thing is slim. Just try to be patient. It wouldn't bother me if someone did this. I know alot of people do it to earn. If they want to scoop that low let them.

I wouldn't care if they overlooked it by mistake but when they responded to my discussion and then post a similar one, they didn't overlook it they did it on purpose.
