I was posting in a discussion and I saw that someone was using emoticons. I remembered when I first joined myLot that I was unable to use emoticons. I tried using them today for the heck of it and, low and behold, I was able to use the emoticons. I did a myLot search for emoticons and a discussion reminded me that you need at least 200 posts to enable the myLot code feature. I was wondering if any member knows why myLot puts a post restriction on code? Do you agree with this restriction?

I didn't know how to use it too, when it was firstly introduced. But by that time, there were lots of discussions about how to use it. I read them and found that it's just right there, and I just didn't notice it . However, we are only allowed to use 3 emoticons within single comments. Now I know more things, new mylot user are only allowed to use it after 200 posts. I have already reached 1000 posts when it was introduced, therefore, I am not aware of such restrictions for new users. The restrictions is actually an encouragement to new users so they will feel the contentment of getting rewards by achieving certain milestone. For example, you will get a star by 100 posts, get emoticons by 200 posts, get the feature of pasting by 500 posts and so on. It's good for the new users and it helps prevent spammers too.

I like typing my emotion too. It's fast, and do not need to switch to mouse. This is much more efficient. Actually mylot code also can be typed by hand too. We just need use the "em" tag. But you need to memorize them. I can remember several of them, which I use most of the time, example like 'happy', 'lol', 'thumbup' and etc. You can always check it out by placing your mouse cursor over the particular emoticon and you can see the code. . But I made mistake sometimes, and the weird code appeared instead. .

Yeah, you quickly memorize the code after you have typed it out several times.

The myLot code is based on html code. It is similar to other forum codes, but they all seem to have there own variations and posting methods. On other forums I usually type the code out to save time because I am used to it and then I don't have to take my hands of the keyboard and select anything with my mouse. I type pretty fast, so this allows for a fluid response using my keyboard. I am all for preventing spam. Cheers.

I don't know why there is a restriction on the smileys but I do believe that the restriction gives new users something to look forward to. Just like the cut and paste feature which you will eventually be able to use. It's yet another thing to look forward to. The emoticons are fun, aren't they?

I am used to using emoticons from the other forums that I am a member of. MyLot is the only site that I belong to that restricts their use for the first 200 posts. I like using emoticons and find that they are quite handy when entering discussions in written form. I am really looking forward to activating the cut and paste feature. I am accustomed to using cut and paste on other forums and find it difficult to live without it here. However, I understand why a pay per post site might want to limit cut and paste until reputations have been established.

Yeah, a celebratory post for when you hit a milestone. If they won't let you use all the emoticons that you want in that post, they should at least let you use your own user made or uploaded emoticons.

Congratulations to you! Now you can present your posts and responses in better ways. You can express more of your ideas better through the use of these emoticons. It will surely give life to your discussions. Most readers are attracted to these emoticons and with this, your articles will surely be read my myLotters. With that, more responses will be given to your posts. The more the responses the better statistics you earn from one particular post.

Yes, emoticons help to breathe life into one's comments. There are also helpful when putting written comments into context. Oftentimes it is easier to convey joy, sorrow, anger or sarcasm with the use of emoticons. Some people don't pick up on the subtlety of the language regardless. Cheers.

Thanks a lot for telling this.i was not aware that you get benefits as you accumalate more posts. Are there more such goodies higher up? when we reach 500 and above? I was also told that you can copy and paste after a certain level, i wonder when that would be ? after the 500th post?

You are welcome kiran8. It is good to be notified of these milestones if you weren't already aware. Anomalie is correct. It is 500 posts to lift restrictions on cut and paste. I like to use the cut and paste function on forums to quote articles to enhance discussions or as proof of statements made. Conversely, cut and paste can be used to post information that can argue against or disprove other comments that have been left in a discussion. I use cut and paste right now even though it is limited. For addressing members specifically as I did with "kiran8" and "Anomalie" in this post. for the above reasons mentioned even though I can only post a portion of a sentence at a time currently. And for re-entering my responses when myLot has a hiccup.

I think they just want us to keep coming and posting and i don't really think there is that big deal in it. Again the 500 post we have to reach before we can copy and paste, well that one for me i understand because once you reach 500 post...it shows that you are really a member and committed to helping people here and by then you will be addicted to mylot and there is a little chance that you might go back . I think is fair but for me i think they just want us committed to the network

Yeah, that makes sense. On a pay-per-post forum, if they allowed the cut and paste feature for anyone even before a reputation is established, it could lead to all types of abuses. SPAM would be way up and earnings foe everyone would decline to the enormous amount of posters who just cut and paste long articles into their threads. That restriction is totally justifiable.

I want to use them. I feel my post are so naked with out them. :( oh well what I want the most is the copy paste ability. I have not been a member for very long but I really don't like the lack of copy and paste till you get to 500. Well any way I have about 402 post to go before I can copy and paste and about 102 before I can use emoticons. That's something to look forward to at least.

Yeah, I am also anxiously awaiting the cut and paste restrictions to be lifted. Oh well, keep plugging away at it and we'll both be there in no time. Take care.

I see you have over 200 post. You were able to use the emotions when you reached your 100th post. I don't know why they have the restrictions on the codes. When you reach your 500th post you will be able to copy and paste. Happy MyLotting.

I read that it was 200 not 100. Either way, I only tried using the emoticons again recently. I really can't wait for 500 posts and the restriction on cut and paste to be lifted. Cheers.

Yeah me too..I dont know why the restriction. Using emoticons are fun I also tried my best to reach 200 post coz I envy members who use it -its so nice and makes reading replies more fun esp the animated ones. Soon I will be able to paste topics or replies -and some said that would help a lot. Gues it would really be great Think admin just want to set certain rules for us to set milestones and show our ranks and status here in mylot..

I don't have any emoticons :( how sad for me. I think it may be when you reach the 200th post mark now. If it used to be 100th it's not working for me. Cest la vie it does give you something to look forward to though.

Yeah, the posts that I read stated that the restrictions on myLot code are lifted once your post count reaches 200. I am glad that I have reached that level and it is something to look forward to. For me, I had completely forgot about using emoticons on myLot, so it became a pleasant surprise when I thought about them again. Here's looking forward to the five hundred mark.
