WHEW!!! I just completed my first ever workout on our Nortictrac Eliptical. We bought it back in July mostly for my husband to use since it's low-impact. I normally walk about 3 miles every day so I wasn't too concerned about using it myself. When we bought the machine, we also bought a workout cartridge - weightloss beginner.
Lately, I haven't been walking as much - partly because I'm lazy, partly because it's been pretty cold and partly because my foot has been bothering me a bit. Well, today I decided that since it was only 20 degrees out there I was going to hop on the eliptical. OH MAN! That was a strenuous 30 minuutes! I do like it though and think I'm going to do one day walk, one day machine. Unless it stays too cold out then I'll just hit the machine just about every day. I would much rather walk outside than do the machine, I find it very boring exercising inside.
Do you prefer workouts inside our outside?

I have some kind of walking machine to, I don't like it and haven't been on it in month.
Like you i rather go for a walk outside.
I wish my boyfriend would go with me but he hates any exercise and he needs it more than me.

I would much rather walk outside, but I really need to do something and this morning it was way too cold for me out there. This is also a bit more vigorous than my normal walking so it should be better for me.
It's too bad your boyfriend doesn't want to walk with you, it is kinda boring by yourself.

I hate exercise all of it except swimming and even that gives me a headache. I do like walking the dogs as long as they do not tie me up in their leashes. I do not leash them together because Daisy May drags poor Petie around and it was to hard on him. He loves to work by my side. He is going to be 7 on Christmas day and she is only 7 months old. She needs to run so I let her have the retractable leash to run in peoples years and he has the 4 foot leash. One day I traded their leashes and it did not work. He stayed with me and she kept running over the top of him.

I'm up to the 8th lesson, and it's just so boring!!!! I am getting a good workout though. I'm going to move it around so I can watch the tv, but I have to figure out how to watch it without cable...

Yeah, that's what I'm going to have to do. One of these days I'll take the 10 minutes and get it set up...

Can you hook the TV up to a DVD or VCR player and watch a video that you like. Maybe a half hour comedy or something that you taped.

I have never tried an eliptical trainer, so I do not know if I would like it. I like the treadmills at the Y that you can change the speeds whenever you want and also give yourself a positive or negative slope. They are less boring than the others. I do prefer outside over inside.

They say the eliptical is better than the treadmill because it's low impact for the knees. My husband can't do a lot of walking for exercise because of knee surgeries he's had so this worked out great for him. It's hard to get used to, I'm not sure I had my feet where I wanted them. I'll have to keep "playing" with it to get comfortable on it.

Hey reiny! That's great that you have an alternative to going
outside! I would prefer to use the machine anyday! I think
I would be more inclined to get on the machine then I would
to make myself go outside and walk. Maybe in the summer or
when the weather is nice out I might want to walk outside.
But, I think I still would prefer the inside equipement to
the walking outside. I'm not sure why, but I think knowing
that the machine is there I might be more likely to push myself
to do just because it is right there! And you do get quite
a workout from it! That way when the weather is bad you don't
have to miss a day without working out!

We bought it mostly for my husband since he can't do the high-impact stuff (walking is very bad for your knees). He's had multiple knee surgeries and has to take it easy like that, but needs the exercise. I had planned on using it when the weather was bad because I like to be outside - it's so boring for me to see one thing the whole time. It's raining today so it looks like I'll be doing session #2 on that thing :)
