Hot water bottle - hotties

I hate getting into a cold bed and I don't have a partner right now to warm the bed up on my behalf!! I usually fill my hot water bottle with boiling water about half an hour before getting into bed so that the bed can warm up. I have bought my sons some hotties for Christmas so that they also are not receiving the same discomfort when getting into bed. They are like a cute cuddly animal filled with lavender and I can just pop them in the microwave for 50 seconds and my kids will then have something warm to cuddle up to when they go to bed. I have never had an electric blanket, have never really thought to buy one! What do you do to warm your bed up during the winter months?

Hi Humbug, I am glad to not be experiencing cold right now. As children, we all had our new hot water bottles . We usually got a new one for Christmas. I can rememer that we also had a stone hot water bottle though. Gosh, it was so cold. We would wrap our nighties around the bottle and then dive into bed. The bedrooms were so icy cold. A fire was reluctantly lit when the doctoer came. Not for us - but for the doctor to warm his hands! Oh, what memories you have re kindled! Good posting

The stone bottle was not round all over. One piece of it was flat so it didn't roll around in the bed. Imagine what I could get for it now on ebay!

Wow, I thought you were going somewhere REALLY different with this. Anyway I have used electric blankets, but the best thing to do is get Flannel sheets, they don't feel could when you get in, so you snuggle in instantly without having to sllep with wires or water bottles.

Hi ya Troublegum I thought the title might grab some attention!! LOL . I have heard of people that have started house fires because of electric blankets. I guess some people have just forgotten to turn them off! Thanks for your response

I was starting to think that I had a deprived childhood. My mom never got me hotties to keep my bed warm, but I did get the electric blanket for Christmas one year. My big issue with electric blankets is washing them, and there was some concern about health risks, I guess you are just supposed to use them to warm the bed up and then turn them off at night.

Me and my brothers never had hotties when we were kids either but my mum gave us hot water bottles. I can't imagine how grubby an electric blanket must get even if it does go under your sheet it would still get filled with bed bugs wouldn't it?

Hi there kelly3ps So do you turn it off once you go to bed or leave it on low all night? Thanks for your response

hi humbug, when i read the title i thought you would be talking about a hot person you share your bed with hahaha! i didn't know those things are called hotties. when i was little i lived in a tropical place so there was no need for any hotties. then i went to college in a cold place and i used an electric blanket. it was nice but i heard there were some risks involved. now i'm living in a warm place (although not completely tropical) so in winter i just use a comforter which is warm enough.

When I was a child, Mother used to fill hot water bottles for us and we'd snuggle up under many quilts and flannel sheets and sleep so good! I do have someone to warm up my bed, but my side of the bed is always cold. In fact, I'd rather get in a cool bed in a cool room. If I am too cold, I just put my face under the covers until my body starts getting warm, and then take it out. I go to sleep and sleep all night.

Hi there Barb42 I dare that even if your side of the bed is still cold the body heat from your partner would mean that you wouldn't be cold for too long eh? Thanks for your response

Previously I used hot water bottles, but they always get lost or burst, but now I have one of those cute lavander animals you stick in the microwave I found someone selling them at our Christmas international market they are sooo cute and lovely! I ended up getting the penguin one but you stick these ones in the microwave for 2 minutes though my housemate bought the puppy one. It gets very cold where we are up on the north coast so we love them to bits.
