Unplanned day #2 on the Eliptical

Originally I was going to walk today - every other day I'd walk 3 miles and then the opposite days I'd work out on the eliptical. Well, it was raining today so I did the eliptical. I'm kinda getting used to it - feet placement, strides... I did listen to my ipod today but it's still boring. I'm thinking I'm going to need to get the TV up in that room hooked up or I'm going to be totally bored with this machine and not want to use it. I do enjoy the workout, and I hope to see some results by the end of the week. But, it's just so BORING!!!! What can I do to "spice" up my workout?

I love the eliptical! For the most part, I watch television while I'm exercising on it. Have you tried listening to books on tape? I used to do that a lot before our gym got televisions installed on each of the machines. I've tried reading a book as well but that's a little bit cumbersome. I also change machines every day so that I don't get bored. I alternate between the treadmill, the eliptical, stair climber and rowing machine. Stick with it and you will see results. Good luck

I didn't think of books on tape, but I'll try that. I do have some inspirational recordings that I listen to while I walk and I was thinking of doing those on the machine. The TV we have up in that room does not have cable hooked up to it so we can't watch anything. I might have to look into that...

Hey reiny! I think that you had better get the tv hooked up if listening to the ipod isn't enough! If you really can't stand doing it without some kind of entertainment then I guess the only answer would be the tv or put it facing the window or something! I don't know what else to tell you! But, you'd better do something because the nasty weather is on it's way and you will have alot more time to use that machine!

Ugh, I know! I don't think I'll be outside much at all this winter. I usually just bundle up and walk faster. But this year they're really calling for some bad weather. I wish I had enough money to get a digital photo frame up there, then I could watch my vacation pictures!!!

I pod was a good move. TV would be great. I do not suppose that there is a book stand for it, so you could read is there? It is fun if you have someone there to chat with you, too.

I don't know that reading would work, there's quite a bit of motion going on... I'm going to have to check into the TV thing and see if I can get the one in that room hooked up. I don't want to have to get an extra box just for me to exercise with...

That sounds like me and the treadmill. Walking on it is so boring, I could go to sleep. And we have it in the bedroom and there is no television in our bedroom so all I will have to do is to listen to the music from my computer. But I cannot do that because my husband hates classical. We cannot move it to the basement because we have to get the basement carpeted. I have no idea, I was thinking of walking around the house, go down the stairs, up the stairs, through the kitchen and the living room, etc. and etc. At least that would be more fun.

We have it in our "sitting room" (I guess that's what it's called, it's an extra living room off the bedroom). There is a TV in there but it's not hooked up to cable. I'm not sure I want to spend $3/month just to watch it every other day for a half hour... I would much rather walk outside like I normally do, but not when it's VERY cold or raining. I'll listen to my inspirational recordings the next time and see if that's any better. Even though I have nothing to look at.

Good for you that you are working out and making good use of the eliptical. Maybe you could listen to inspirational cd's. to help keep you motivated.

I do have inspirational recordings for my part time business that I listen to walk I walk. I'll be listening to those on the machine also. But there's nothing to look at... Right now it's facing a wall and even if I move it it's facing the back yard... I might have to look into getting a cable box for the TV in that room...
